Gravatar that's completely beautiful....and don't forget the effect of our win in Nov., when it's time to stop counties from pulling this kind of tactic...voting should be easy, simple, and accessible...period!

Gravatar this is an AMAZING story, go read the whole thing for sure!!

Gravatar For those of you who don't know, there is a long, deep, and sordid history in that county vis-a-vis Prairie View.

This is a rural mainly white county about 25 miles Northwest of Houston in which is located the historically black college of Prairie View. That white racist "Good-ole Boy" Republicans in that county have been using every legal and illegal means at their disposal to keep black Prairie View students from voting.

I love how they are fighting back.

Gravatar I just saw that a little while ago on digby...... It MADE my day I'll tell ya! Great post! GOOD for them

Gravatar Wow...if this is the sort of thing Obama can inspire than Hillary supporters should give him another look at what he could do in a general election.

On college town shenanigans this is nothing new. County clerks are usually conservative old Republican fogies in a lot of college towns and will do anything in their power to obstruct the vote. I remember at the U of Illinois this sort of crap played itself out every election. I almost changed my registration to my University address because it pissed me off so much.

You made all of us proud Prarie View A&M.

Gravatar "And it would've worked, too -- if it wasn't for you meddling kids!!"

Gravatar rememberthe youth vote dosn't show up..and new voters, first time voters don't count

Gravatar I bet we can stop them by yelling "get off my lawn" a lot

Gravatar Ten miles is a long walk, but it's amazing what you can do if you're sufficiently pissed off.

Gravatar Yeah, and they're not walking there to vote for Clinton or McCain that's for sure!

Gravatar Dammit! I gotta learn teh inetrnets stuff betterz

go here for the correct link from above...

sheesh...

Gravatar We WILL Vote

That sign says it all. Walking 7.3 miles on asphalt is no short trip either. They are acting without fear. It makes me think how many people have probably told Barack how as the first black Presidential nominee from a major party he is in great danger. "They're gonna kill you ya' know" is what they are saying to him. But he hasn't flinched once.

Good for these students.

Gravatar That...

...is a picture that should give the Clinton campaign nightmares.

I just showed it to my wife and she said ruefully, “When things like this go down, people usually go home. People don't walk ten miles for nothing.”

Those are college students. A large part of Obama's base. If he's got disenfranchised voters in Texas walking half a fucking marathon to cast votes—something no one else in the Democratic or Republican parties is able to do...let woe fucking betide.

Good God almighty.

Gravatar you want to know why we have to have obama as the dem canadate. he puts SC on the table, he puts texas on the table, he keeps Wisconson on the table. state after state after state sudenly have realy political races...we don't jsut conceade over half the nation ot the republicans. It is amazing what happens when you tell people that they matter.

every state, every vote matters(this is comeing form a guy living in the only signifigant obama state )

Gravatar Sweeet stuff! Goddamn, guys, I'd like to have given every one of them a hug.

I believe it's called:

"Democracy". :o)

Gravatar well its at least what we call democracy here. you got to fight for your right to vote or you will be heald down (why do i have the beasty boys runnign thorough my head now)

Gravatar ceabaird,

You must have watched a lot of Scooby-Doo cartoons, because that is the classic line said by the villains after Scooby and Co. crack the case.

Gravatar "Zoiks!! whaddaya mean, Scooby?"

Yeah, I tried to link to the Scooby-Doo wiki in my first comment, and screwed up the url.

Gravatar That...
...is a picture that should give the Clinton campaign nightmares.

Hell, it oughtta give the McCain campaign hives.

Gravatar Obama opened his local office here in Corpus Christi Monday. From what I heard, it was a mad house. Very large crowd showed up. They set up in an old Burger King that's been closed for years. It's right on the edge of downtown in a rather run down area. Clinton's is out on the much more upscale southside. He'll be speaking Friday afternoon at our convention center. It's a couple of blocks from where I work so I think I'll come in early, park and walk on down. I was going to do just that last Wednesday when Hillary was giving her speech at our baseball stadium, which is also just a few blocks from work, but at the last minute they changed locations to the county fairgrounds in Robstown, about 20 miles away. She drew an estimated 6,000, some waiting in line at from 6 am. Obama will probably draw 3 or 4 times that many.

Gravatar Y'know, if they're eligible to vote in the primary, they're probably eligible to run for whatever office (or the appointer of said office) that decided to plant the voting machines as inconveniently as possible. And from the looks of that crowd, they could represent a sizeable voting bloc in that area.

Next time, the two machines could be at Prarie View A&M. And wouldn't that be fun?

Gravatar What a beautiful, beautiful sight.

Some might even think of it as hopeful.
.

Gravatar Gods bless them all.

Gravatar WOW !!

Beautiful, Beautiful and Oh so Awesome !

" We are the ones we have been Waiting for "

It's a beautiful day and I am definitely loving it.

March on and bring it home !

K from FL !

Gravatar Hubris,

YES! I just read this!!

Gravatar "These kids are walking almost 10 miles to the county seat"

Why? No parking space there? Can't the campaigns organize some busses?

Gravatar why do we still let teh troll post...why oh why?

Gravatar si, se puede.

Gravatar Those college students are having the fun of their life while walking to the poll; can you imagine the excitement that they are experiencing while chanting, laughing, and carrying on conversations. Why would you want to spoil it by getting a bus by transporting them to the poll? I can imagine the amazement as people look on at this humongous unified crowd walking to CHANGE this country. Prairie View A&M I know that you are proud of your students because one of your rivalry ASU - Alabama State University is proud of you too

Gravatar GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU AND GET MORE

Gravatar This is the struggle OUR PEOPLE went through for their right to vote back in the 50s and 60s. They marched and held peaceful demonstrations. I thank God for what they did so we can have a right to vote today. History is only repeating itself. Anyone who does not vote should not complain!

Some people don't want to see a black man as President anyways so I'm not surprised people are still pulling stunts like this to keep us from voting. If this is what we have to do, then be like Nike and Just Do It! Ain't no stopping us now!

Gravatar Praise God!! This is Beautiful, They GET IT!!!!

Gravatar This shows that places like this are getting ready for the November election early.Practice makes perfect
like the "Bush" election. No, we don't want this happening again. Dr. King
would have been so proud. Please,
don't let anything or anyone turn
us around. We need the "Obama" change.
