Gravatar Why bother the tiny minds running CNN with the truth? It doesn't fit; their brains would likely melt, then explode.

Gravatar Petraeus, ugh! Now there's a political general. Bush couldn't have found someone better.

Gravatar Wonder what the Israelis told Bush that led him to raise the rhetoric ?

Gravatar Also, what I think we're seeing here is a case of White Man's Burden Syndrome - some in the Administration may think that the Iraqis are so backward and childlike they HAVE to be getting such complicated things from Outside somewhere.

Which is complete bullshit, of course. Any engineering or physics student knows the idea behind the shaped charge, and as Hubris pointed out it's fairly simple to make one.

Gravatar Still using the liberal media to create their own reality.

Gravatar Indeed.

If the Iraqis are so backward and technologically clueless, how could they have posed such a threat that invading was necessary in the first place? Weren't these the people who could nuke us in 45 minutes or whatever?

Gravatar Uncle V -

weren't these the people who could nuke us in 45 minutes or whatever?

That was rhetoric from several years ago. You were supposed to have forgotten that by now....

They's dangerous, just because I say so! Now go back to American Idol and NASCAR dammit, and let me be protectinatin' y'all!

Gravatar 'Wonder what the Israelis told Bush that led him to raise the rhetoric ?'

"Do what we say, bitch, or we'll spill the beans on 9-11."

Gravatar It is possible that the media is doing what they are told to do...

Naw that is a conspiracy...

Remember the Maine!

Gravatar Harry,

That was rhetoric from several years ago. You were supposed to have forgotten that by now....

I'm going! I'm going!! Don't tase me, bro!!

Gravatar Don't tase me Ranger Smith

Gravatar Your uncle Ahmed has a machine shop, too?

What a coincidence.

Y'know, I tend to mock conspiracy theories, but the whole media-complicity-with-warmongering trend is puzzling. Is it just that good for their ratings? Are they that goddamn stupid? Or what?

Gravatar 'Wonder what the Israelis told Bush that led him to raise the rhetoric ?'

"Do what we say, bitch, or we'll spill the beans on 9-11."
The Green Bastard

-But...but what do the Israelis have on RUDY!

Gravatar Oh...9-11, not Mr. 9-11.
I apologize for the error.

Gravatar My own hypothesis is that the SCLM's behavior is a consequence of the structure in which the media exist and the structure of the corporations who own the media outlets- especially those that use the public airwaves.

If you're a privately owned but regulated monopoly, sucking up to TPTB is inherently in your own interest.

When the corporate CEO caste swims in a bubble filled with "conventional wisdom" and nothing else, promoting the viewpoint which everyone they know holds to the exclusion of all others is a very natural behavior.

No need for a Great Big Conspiracy when conditions that promote behavior that resembles one exist and the behavior also reinforces the conditions.

As for the provenance of EFPs, just do a little research about "Grenade" Larsen, the Norwegian engineer. In occupied Norway, he had local shops manufacturing components for Sten guns, all of them disguised as parts for perfectly innocuous machines.

It might take an engineering degree to create a design for a good EFP, but once that's done the fabrication could be done with the same techniques Middle Eastern artisans have used to work in copper and brass for thousands of years.

Unfortunately, our beloved SCLM, from the CEO down to the individual talking head, are far too scientifically and technically illiterate ever to think of that.

Gravatar Plus, the new name "Explosively Formed Penetrators" sounds MUCH more sophisticated than "Shaped Charges" -- which have been around since WWII.

Besides, IEDs is cooler than "Booby traps" or "Mines" -- which have been around since the revolutionary war (US vs. England, part I).

Obviously, those colonist MUST have been getting technical support from the Iranians -- building a submarine is WAY beyond their abilities.

Jackasses.

Gravatar fuk'n haloscan ate my link...

Gravatar War pigs jonesing: never a pretty sight.

Speedboats menacing destroyers ... crude bombs being mysteriously imported ... I guess we're ALSO expected to forget seeing all those US soldiers standing around laughing & shrugging while TONS of explosives & weapons were being boosted out of Saddam's armoury ... nobody's laughing about it now.

Don't forget:
Poland in 1939 was an inside job, too.

Gravatar That's right Jim...no need to guard that shit! Y'see, this crew RUNS on chaos. The more chaos the better for them to meet their ends. If there is not enough chaos - why then the mysterious "terists in Iraq" or whatever sounds believable to their followers the media who is owned by the same murdering mother fukkers who own the military and congress!

I hope the present residents of the Shitehouse and every single person who calls them 'friend' lays dead in the street in front of their mother's house as they have left so many...

OH GOLLY, DO I SOUND ANGRY?

Gravatar hey jude,
If the screen is green and exploding, there is money being made at CNMSNCBSFOXABC and pampered, wealthy bubble heads are employed, offering opinions based on nothing but Rambo movies, and America and the world are watching. This drives up ad revenue and market share. People buy papers again to find out which of their neighbors, friends, and family were killed overseas. Wheelchair bound megalomaniacs and nebbishy east coast intellectuals with "confidence" shortcomings, so to say, are out in force selling mass murder as the cheap solution to all problems. Defense, logistics and shipping, booze, pharmaceuticals, down to clothing makers are all up up up on new orders to replace blown up materiel and they advertise just for good will, sponsoring even NPR and PBS, "liberal" bastions long sponsoring liberal shows like Wall Street Week and the like.

Gravatar Ktesibios:

Noam Chomsky has said many words very much to that effect. That's why I've taken what I hear from the mainstream media with a very large grain of salt for many years now.
