Hi. My name is Douglas Watts. I'm an alumni of Steve's who got lost in the shuffle when he died. Hi Tanbark. I remember you. If you haven't seen it, here's some shit from Mr. Dick Gregory that really touched me and got me laughing my ass off ... I plan on coming back here and hope you are all well. I miss Steve's site and the incredibly eclectic group of people who came here. Ran out of stuff to say.
Cheers.

Hi Douglas,
great link. I never read Steve before (I think I only ever read a post of his about Colonialsim - something I think is alive and well, btw) but it was a good post and if the people here at GNb are any indication of the people who posted at Steve's, then it must have been a great blog. they have a pretty interesting group here and I always like reading the varied perspectives.
I tend to get caught up in the day-to-day political crap, but I suppose I should go back to read Steve's old posts. I think there was something recently regarding a post of his about how to read corporate financial reporting forms (!?). It didn't strike me as something you'd see everyday and it might be interesting to see a progressive person's take on them.
Anyway, stick around! Watch the Hillary vs. Obama sparks fly

Can someone explain to me how the Conservative movements actually gone down hill since Buckley, I mean the man was Robert Byrd level racist (I only mention Byrd because the right seems to like to tar the man and overlook the fact that he changed) only he never apologized or reformed (also he didn't grow up a poor white in WV, which while not an excuse is certainly a mitigating circumstance, especially when contrasted with Buckley's patrician roots), backed actual fascists (funny how Jonah never mentioned NR's backing of Franco in his book, I'm sure that was an oversite, after all he made sure to bring up TNRs progressive/eugenecist past), and basically was a horrible human being (I'm sorry eloquence only excuses charcter when the talent is transcendent, and even then it helps when one reforms--see Reifenstahl) and yet his literary progeny are somehow even more reactionary, and at the same time far less intelligent.

As an aside, it amazes me that leftist of similar relevance to WFB (see: Chomsky, or Vidal) are (at least in the case of Chomsky) rightfully tarred for their mistakes (not condemning/possibly embracing the Khmer Rouge) many of which could be chalked up to bad info, yet WFB was never similarily discredited for his support for Jim Crow (which was in his own fucking country), much less his foriegn endorsements (though none were as odious as the Khmer, Buckley actually visited Franco's Spain, Pinochet's Chile, and Boa's (spelling, it wasn't under De klerk) South Africa (similarily while Byrd's sins in the 50s & 60s are as I noted fodder for ridicule, Cheney's backing of S. A. in the Senate in the 80s is never brought up).

It's nice that ol' Bill Buckley lived long enough to see the movement he's largely responsible for be taken over by psychotics, degenerates, out-and-out crooks and imbecile sociopaths. I trust that thought will comfort him during his stay in hell.

Socratic,
Don't forget Buckley's statement that all HIV+ persons should be tattooed--on their forehead--by way of indicating their status.
He must be so pissed off seeing all those gay people in Heaven, while he spends eternity stuck in an elevator with some of his biggest supporters.

Let's keep the ugly politics away from kitteh pix...
lolcats and other such pix are cute when they're not being used to send silly ass political messages. As soon as you do they, they frickin' jump the shark.
So, keep the kittehs free of ugly politics.

Actually, I rather enjoy the Obama kitties. Even though I am an Obama supporter now that Dodd and Edwards are out of the race.
A little self-satire never hurts. Especially when delivered by fuzzcats.
