A friend gave me this recipe for margaritas....sounds goofy but they really do rock....especially after about half of one....equal proportions: one 12 oz can of frozen limeade, one 12 oz can of 7 Up or similar lemon lime soda, one 12 oz can beer, fill the empty can of limeade with tequila and mix all in a large pitcher. Serve over ice with a squeeze of lime. And this will keep a day or so in the fridge.
As for foodage, I found a recipe for a mole rub for beef fajitas. I'm gonna try that this evening. The recipe also made a red chile sauce to serve with the tacos. I figured a few slices of avocado will be a good touch with it too....maybe some shredded cabbage. Mmmmmm....should I make fresh corn tortillas too or buy flour? I'm a corn fan, but the rest of the fam loves the flour ones. I'll do both.
Will probably watch some of the race, but we don't care much about the whole concept. We did actually manage to watch two movies last night....both were very enjoyable....The Amateurs....Jeff Bridges and his friends decide to make a porn movie....turns out to be a fun watch. Also saw Across the Universe....as a child of the 60's I really liked it....visually a beautiful movie and we loved the Beatles.

Fatmex --
*laughs*
This isn't NASCAR.
This is INDY car racing, IRL open wheel. They mostly race in the U.S., but they do race in other places around the world. And while most of their course are on racetracks, some are on the streets Grand Prix style.
Danica Patrick won a race in Tokyo a few weeks ago.
She's the first woman IN HISTORY to beat men on an equal playing field at the top of their game in a fully competitive league.
This would be like a woman golfer winning the Masters, or a woman tennis player winning against a man at the U.S. Open. Danica Patrick won a valid Indy Car race last month, and is in fifth place in qualifying for today's running at Indy.
This ain't no fracking Bubba NASCAR league. It's the real deal. She could race F1 if she wanted. She's had offers to jump to both F1 and NASCAR. She's the number one racing star in IRL racing at the moment, and would be the number one star anywhere she went. Yes, because she's a woman, but she's also a fierce, legitimate competitor out on the track.
Right now she's in THIRD PLACE overall in IRL for the overall series for the YEAR. In only her third (or maybe her firth, I forget) year in IRL racing. And naturally, she's had to fight everyone off who said 'no woman can win at racing. It's a man's sport.' Then, when she got too damn good, the men who were losing to her weekend after weekend, even went out and got the Officials to pass a special rule requiring her car to carry more weight than any other car, on the grounds that because she weight just 95 pounds, her low weight was giving her an unfair advantage over all of the big men at 200 pounds. So they made her car carry an extra few pounds. Like the rider of a horse carry extra weight in the saddle bags because he's too light.
She just smiles and beats them all.
This is RACING.
Formula 1 is beautiful, no kidding. But come watch Danica kick the ass of all the guys. If your a feminist, it's a thing of beauty.
To the credit of the GOOD drivers, they welcome her. It's only the drivers who are always at the back of the track who are mumbling and using her as yet one more excuse for why they can never win. The winners just love finding another driver to test themselves against. *grins* They don't give a damn if its a boy or a girl. They just love driving fast against the best in the world.
GO DANICA GO.

1. Yes, for a certain viral infection.
2. Right now, Pepsi Decaf (which is a good mixer with rum, btw). I found a good margarita recipe for later - 3 parts Cuervo Gold, 2 parts triple sec, 2 parts lime juice, and just under 2 parts agave nectar or bar syrup. Sounds like a winner.
3. I finished my yard work for today, so I plan on watching extremely bad TV and working on a Job-related project along with two creative writing projects. Monday I will be grilling brats with sauteed onions and green peppers.
4. Danica rules, plain and simple, thank you very much. Apart from rooting for her to win (or at least place) at Daytona, I may watch the NBA Game #3 and root for the Celtics.
Oh yes, and go Redwings.

I went to the Long Beach GP, which was the last official Champ Car race. The racing was very exciting and I was there last year, too. Open wheel racing should not be in the state it is in now. It's a real damn shame.
Danica does rule. That would be one of the high point of the merger of the IRL/Champ car series' in an otherwise lackluster racing season.
I will watch the Indy 500 because I'm a racing fan and it is an important racing benchmark. I wish it was part of the World championship in F1 like in the olden days.
Lewis Hamilton just won the Monaco GP. He's also won it in GP2 and F3. He's done almost the equivalent of Tiger winning the Jr Amateur, Mid, Amateur and the Open. It is the pinnacle of the sport. The only thing he needs is an actual world championship. It will be a very memorable race season if Danica and Lewis each wins his/her respective championships.
Fuck Ferrari.

Hi Jesse:
Pain meds? Yup, Ultram ER and Mobic (screwed up back), tylenol occasionally for breakthrough pain, sienna for the nasty plumbing side effects of ultram and mobic.
Caffiene to cope with lack of focus and speed pain relief.
Drink? Nope--counter indicated with Ultram (seizure risk, low, but there. Who wants a self-induced phramacological lobotomy?).
Excercise? Every day that I can. Nordic track, very gentle on my screwed up back. Won't swim since I'm blind as a bat--I get freaked out about not being able to see when I'm swiming.
Feel better.

Weather is beautiful here in Indy today, should be a great race. Except it is blacked out here and I won't be able to watch it until 8 PM tonight. Pick one off of the top 3 teams-Ganassi, Penske, AGR and they could win.
Might go to the pool today, gonna grill some steaks later and enjoy the weather.

She will stay in contention, get the car dialed in and conserve her fuel for most of the day. She will not be short on fuel when she turns it loose over the last 50-100 miles. Go Danica!

Meds - way too many, but I assume they are keeping me alive, so I comply. My favorite is Fexofenadine, though. Taking it has eliminated allergy-induced migraines for 4 years.
Booze - My Margarita: 3 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice, 1 oz. 100% blue agave silver tequila, 1 oz Cointreau (that's the sugar), shaken for 60 seconds and strained over ice into a salt-rimmed glass.
Or - a cocktail I invented to honor Harvard's fencing team - "HFT Crimson Cocktail" - 1 oz excellent bourbon, 1/2 oz Cointreau, splash of grenadine, and 10 shakes of Peychaud's Bitters, ice cubes, garnished with blood orange slice and a maraschino cherry on a red sword pick.
My exercise is watching hubby mow the grass and cooking ribs in the smoker.
Sorry, no sports involving cars since a weekend date in 1969 at Laguna Seca in Monterey. Enough cars and car talk for a lifetime.

1. Meds to control Parkinsons, heart disease, emphysema, strokes, and migraine. They all are working very, very well, so I'm in excellent condition.
2. Coffee. Recovering alcoholic for 27 years, so now I can watch an auto race and at the end of the race I actually know (and care) who won.
3. Watch two auto races on tv. Eat. See #1 above.
4. I really want Danica to be what everyone thinks she is, but I've never seen her perform in anything other than mediocre fashion. That includes her win, which was the car and gas mileage, not her. I will be rooting for her today.
4a. I have been a NASCAR fan for years, but as the yuppies took it over I have been losing interest. The winged doofus machine has pretty much killed it. I'll more or less watch, but...

3. No plans, except to not stay cooped up in the house all day.
4. Or maybe I'll watch the Indy. I didn't know it was running today.
Brat, btw, I hope you're watching those "plumbing side effects" closely. When I evacuated to Jackson MS for Der Sturm, a quack doctor I saw there put me on Mobic for some very minor pain. He just said to take it daily, which I did for several months, but he set up NO monitoring regimen. By the time I got home and saw my regular doctor I had less than 30% kidney function and a 50/50 chance of pulling through. I'm okay now, though I'll never take an NSAID again. Thing is, I felt fine through the whole event, cause with kidney failure you feel perfectly normal until the crash, which was only days away when they got me into the hospital. You gotta watch those things, and lab tests are the only way.

Ibuprofen, as usual. For the back pain, which is with me 24/7/365. This is pretty much what you can expect to happen when you're in your late 50's, and you contracted arthritis in your late teens.
In happier times, massage therapy would help with pain control, but that costs more than I can afford as often as needed, when I'm between jobs. That, thanks to the Great Shitpile, and the imbeciles who always, always think that what goes up will never, ever come down.
What I'm doing right now is pumping multiple hundreds of gigabytes of data off of hard drives and onto DVD5s. While rebooting Windows systems that go flaky during this process. And devising some tricky ways of verifying the file integrity of a newly created archive when the software that is supposed to do this job packs up.
Offloading data onto DVD5s is an ugly job at best. But tape drives that can handle the data volume a modern desktop drive usually contains are insanely expensive. Nothing about this situation has really changed in the last 20 years.

Hey Steve;
Yeah, my pain management doc originally put me on Celebrex in 1999, then I was rotated over to Mobic, which is a Cox-2, but has a longer track record. I get the routine blood work.
WHat's fun is to watch the CRP test go up and down, depending on level of joint inflamation and how well or not the anti-inflamatories work (no heart disease, get tested for that too!).
My spine is so goofy even the pain management pros took one look and went "eeeeuuu!" the first time they saw the x-rays (Combination of curvatures and a smashed-in tailbone).
Had forgotten about NSAIDS and kidney failure. Yuck. Thanks for the reminder.

Meds? - Friday I had that dental fun, root planing and scaling, so I had some nitrous oxide. OMG!! Is that shit legal? Two hours and I was a happy girl. "Sure, take your time, turn up the music will ya". I became reacquainted with relaxation. Going back too. So, no actual drugs.... just the longing for THAT one. I do have some leftover pain meds, but no pain so will save them.
Drinkin - Made some margarita popcicles last night and they're cooking in the freezer. Hope they work out. We'll see.
Major to do list includes completing two top-down roman shades, installation, painting of office, move bookcase, desk in one hour like on hgtv Tomorrow may be warm enough to put tomatoes back outside. The annual snow/rain ugly Memorial day event is winding down so outside is priority tomorrow. And summer can begin
Cooking a batch of Chicken/Salmon Enchiladas for a music campout next weekend. Starting chicken slow cook tonight, grill salmon and assembly tomorrow, then freezer.
Tomorrow I'm getting my little camping trailer in order. Finally found a storage spot for it over in the shee shee rv/boat storage so have a spot to gussy it up. All the other giant, new rv's and trailers might be over their indignation at having little '52 thang in their uppity midst. We'll see. It's like winning the lottery getting a storage spot here. sheeesh.
Annnnnd Danica....... No watching little cars go around in circles. I was quite taken with some motorcycle racing the other day though. 200mph crazy people. Why? So, good for Danica. Lakers are in the playoffs? Oh. Go Lakers. rah. Probably a movie for me or start reading for the two summer session classes that begin next week. Summer session classes.... that seems wrong.
Hope everyone has a great one

The rookie who hit the wall, hit turn three, then skid down to turn four.
Also, the driver who earlier his car caught on fire during a pit stop, it back out on the track.
Yes, this has been a dramatic race.
Cars coming down pit row and we have YELLOW flag pit stops.
Danica Patrick just picked up two spots during these pit stops, and leaves pit road in 9th place.
Incidentally, I'm reading Jeff Sharlet's The Family, one of the two best political books I've read this year. I'll be writing an entire post on it possibly later today, if not, first part of the week. Highly recommended.
Danica just talked to her Crew Chief, Kyle. Said she's having trouble passing. Which explains why she's been stuck at 9th-10th place all day. She can maintain her speed and place, but not get past anyone.

CRASH
Duno, #23, the second woman in the race, spun her car out, but saved it, not hitting anything.
In using her brakes, she blew both rear tires. She's being towed back to pit lane. Her tires will be replaced, and she'll be back out.
Of the women, Sara Fisher is out. Duno is having her tires fixed, and Danica is in 7th place.
We are under YELLOW with about 30 laps left. We might be able to stretch to the checkered flag.
After the pit stops from this YELLOW, if we can stay GREEN, we might be able to finish the race without another set of pit stops.
Pit stops...
DANICA CRASHES ON PIT STOP. She is hit by some asshole. Aaaaaargh. Her car is clipped by this idiot.
She was all the way over pulling out at speed, and this idiot pulling out wasn't watching where he was going, clipped her back end, spun her into the wall and across pit lane. Her car's end is totaled.
Over. Her day is over. They're pushing her car behind the wall.
Goddamn.

She was walking down pit road, her helmet still on -- all 95 pounds of her, plus an extra 5 pounds for the helmet -- just pure fury. Walking isn't the word; stalking. Angry. Ready to fucking kill someone.
Indy security, a BFD (big fucking dude) got beside her, talking to her, and when that didn't work at all, got in front of her, put his hand out and pointed firmly at off pit road, making clear she was to stop marching with her FISTS OF DEATH down to kill the team of the asshole who knocked her out of the race.

Fourteen meds, six vitamins and supplements. Celebrex for the joints and swelling (cannot get off it and still type or walk), Aleve for when I can't get to sleep, tramadol when I have an ovarian cyst rupture. Cokey-cola every morning to get started. No drinking ever.
I have to work tonight, typing ER room reports via telecommute. Until then, working on the novel.
If my little brother was still alive, I'd be calling him every hour to find out about the race. He'd be for Danica Patrick but pretending not to be in order to get me riled up. Over my desk, right here, is a photo of him in the race car whose engine he built, before crashing it and going on to become a blues player.
He died at 42 of drugs and poverty. Can't go there.
I saw Danica on Letterman recently. She actually embarrassed Dave speechless (I think not just his show biz fake shock, but the real thing) by inferring he was trying to ask about her pubic hair. She's vulgar, egocentric, poorly educated, and I really really hope she wins.

Safety crew is working on Sarah. She's okay and out of the car. She's UPSET.
She's the owner of her car, and accordingly, is running on a financial shoestring. She probabaly won't be able to race at Kentucky, the next stop on the IndyCar circuit. She is taking a big financial hit.
Aside from Patrick's stalking (the crowd went bananas as soon as it realized she was out for blood), the most interesting part of the broadcast was when ABC replayed the radio conversation where Patrick was describing the problems with the car. The commentators described her as an engineer's dream, in that she was able to give them an enormous amount of information as to how the car was running (so they could make corrections), all while driving at 220.
As for the winner, Scott Dixon ran an excellent race, and thoroughly deserved the title.

As it turns out, the series moves to Milwaukee next week, not Kentucky. That Fisher was writing off racing at Kentucky only emphasizes how big a financial hit she's taking,
