"Appeasement" is what the complaisant GOP Congress and the Blue Dogs have been doing with their constant and rather sickening acquiescence in everything the Executive Branch has wanted ever since 9/11. "Appeasement" is agreeing to all the supplemental spending bills and to offering only the blandest objections to Bush's flouting of the law and the Constitution.
There is a universe of difference between appeasement and diplomacy that gets substantive results. Unfortunately, none of the members of the present regime seem to recall this (even though at least one of them can recall - maybe, if you shock his balls with a cattle prod - that Nixon talked face-to-face with both Brezhnev and Mao).
W is just displaying his chronic case of Reality-Deficit-Disorder once again.
