It occurred to me that your insight that Huckleberry as the anti-Clinton may not be a coincidence. Except for the most screwed up republicants, everyone is saying the 90's were much better than the current reality of dumbass King George.
They know the Clenis (TM) can run rings around Bush and is simply a much nicer person, so they want their own Clinton so to speak. One who does not have the personal foibles of the original, as they see it, nor the intelligence that scares them, but still capable of bringing back the part of the 90's that they liked, like wage growth. Only if the Moneyed Interests let him, and that's not even a guarantee. Huckabee had better be well-prepared for the Saturday night debate in New Hampshire, as he will be attacked on all sides, by everyone, to show that he's "not ready for prime time."
The Moneyed Interests may settle for forcing one of their people as Huckabee's running mate; but I think they'd rather knock him out of the box on Super Tuesday.
I can't even IMAGINE that the GOP will allow him to continue much further. There will be some scandal in the coming days - something is gonna happen to the Huckster. Had a conversation with the ex-/nonex- last night while watching the Iowa Caucus returns. We were primarily debating the assets/weaknesses of Barack Obama (I like the pretty pictures he paints, but I think he needs a much more pragmatic approach in regard to what it's actually going to take to change the political, social and economic direction this country has been heading in for the last 25 years - he needs an injection of what John Edwards has been spitting) but eventually segued into a discussion about Mike Huckabee and what his candidacy says about the Rethug Party and it's still deluded Christofascist "base". I don't see The Huckster so much as a "mirror image" of The Clenis - rather I see them both as two of the faces of the same Janus-like political creature. Both dishonest and disingenuous to a fault. Both plaqued with a core weakness that would/will eventually be their undoing.

i've been telling people that i've been alarmed at huckabee ever since the chuck norris ad. the way he was able to convincingly sell the joke lines as if they were gospel showed me that he will be able to lie with a show of sincere emotion. i figure it's a skill set that tv preachers need, even second rate tv preachers from bug tussle.

We've seen the disconnect between how Huckabee looks/sounds and what he in fact is saying with the Dick Cheney of three or four years ago: all avuncular, steady, sounded like he knew what he was talking about -- and yet everytime he opened his mouth out flew bats and other creatures that only Stephen King could dream up.
