I wonder why they're announcing this on a Monday morning when their usual MO is to release bad news on Fridays after 5 PM. Abu G gave his resignation on Friday, as per usual, but it was held until today when it could easily have been buried over the weekend.
Could be that the bushies want Gonzo's demise to be big news in order to appease his repug detractors, but that doesn't seem like a convincing reason to me. They don't give a damn what their own party thinks. It also seems unlikely that he was chased from office by any of the dozens of Congressional investigations into his behavior, since the administration has never cared about its many violations of the law. Something is just wrong about the timing of Gonzo's resignation.
Of course, it could simply be that the bushies are off their game. The chimp's brain has left the building, but the body still lumbers on.

Great news, but...this ain't over: We want trials (fair, of course), conviction and SENTENCING, of Abu and all of the other creeps in this travesty of an administration.

Good riddance to Abu I-Can't-Recall.
I've not had much time lately even to lurk here. It's nice to be back st the GNB with all your smart, snarky comments and timely posts.
Would that AG's departure were just the appetizer in a deluxe meal featuring not only resignations but investigations, subpoenas and impeachments!
A girl can dream ....

I hate the fact that this news doesn't make me feel good at all.
Not that I'm not happy to see him gone but where's our justice?
He's leaving of his own free will after stonewalling the nation, probably on his way to some vacation spot.
And I'm not going to hold my breath for the Congress to wake up and do it's job and nail these bastards to the wall.
God this is depressing.

Gilly, from wherever you are, I hope you're sitting back with some popcorn, a good brew, and laughing maniacally at the continued parade of rats leaving the S.S. Bush.
Especially at this last one--a big, fat, stinky AG.

I think it's waycool. Bush is surfacing the road out of DC with his honchos and cabinet members. :o)

It just took this long because they had to convince his replacement to accept the post. A very serious centrist with impeccable credentials was needed. Bush will be announcing the interim appointment of Ted Nugent today.

There will be a revolution in Iraq VERY soon. Maliki is out, Allawi is in. He's retained the services of a GOP PR Lobbying firm that has CLOSE ties to Bush.
Puff of smoke, shiny bright object, new Iraqi Govt. put into place and it's STAY THE SURGE!
As the economy worsens, the next few weeks will be HUGE given what I'm hearing about the large amounts of 'future's' being dumped off in a hurry.
Coupled with the damage done to the markets by the mortgage crisis, a house of cards is wobbling greatly.
The White House KNOWS this, and is puffing smoke at us for all the above.
Expect the smoke to get MUCH thicker in the days to come . . . fog it up is the new Mantra Du Jour!
We live in interesting times!!

So another corrupt, lying, criminal slimebag leaves for (presumably) greener pastures. Under his own power and on his (and his master Bush's) terms. Big deal. This departure doesn't even have a "rat deserting a sinking ship" feel to it. Seedy Gonzales is never going to see the inside of a prison cell.
It would be nice to have some sense of justice being served here, but we all know Gonzo is never going to be punished for his crimes in any way. I can't work up any glee over this...it's almost boring. Bush will appoint someone as bad, and the Dem "leadership" will fall all over themselves in their eagerness to suck GOP cock. The end.

Can Congress go back today to prevent a recess appointment?
Could a few senators or congressmen at a time be enough to keep it open?
We need no recess appointments and we should use any parliamentary trick at our disposal to stop them.

Daily Show and Colbert are on two week breaks. Maybe now is the best time to trot out the resignations?
Leno and the late night comics are nowhere near as dagger-like precise as Stewart and Colbert.
It ALWAYS happens when the shows are on a break.
Just my 2 cents.

He's leaving of his own free will after stonewalling the nation, probably on his way to some vacation spot.
He's going back to Crawford, where he will resume his natural position in the Bush household, "cuz them virgin mojitos ain't gunna serve *themselves*, Fredo!" He will have plenty of time to contemplate his future options post-2008... either responding to more unpleasant questions from legal authorities, possibly at the Hague, or fleeing with his Dear Leader to the new Bush compound in Paraguay. The main status difference between his career and his father's is that the ex-AG can perform his menial tasks indoors & (mostly) sitting down.
There's an old saw that the worst punishment for being a venal lickspittle, a tool for larger monsters, is that one spends all one's time in the company of a wretched little toady. Gonzales is the veritable pattern of such punishment.

sid blumenthal has a pretty good article describing the little snirps career as professional toad, & Constitution-killing legacy as AG one more time, in sordid detail...i think the allusion to The Purloined Letter is pretty plausible too, although, ho-hum, when the hell are we gonna get a Tell-Tale Heart moment, you know, real "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! -tear up the planks!- here, here!" stuff? will the Dems even exploit the pressure?? if the moment came at another DC cocktail weenie gobbler, would the press just report it as another joke in doubtful taste??? & how to get anyone i know who isn't as crazy as myself after all this time to give a damn ...

how many people died in a compound from fire as a result of Gonzales' direct orders?
How many were grabbed from family members at a point of a gun to be retured to a communist nation?
Oh yeah...wrong administration.

Elian's maternal family was breaking the law by defying a court order, fuckstick. And besides, at least in Cuba, Elian won't have to worry about whether or not he'll get decent health-care if he ever gets sick or in an accident.

Please don't feed the trolls. This is what counts as a very bad day for them.
Cheney is next. Do not that this is meaningless, this is very significant. If a special prosecutor gets Gonzo to flip then Cheney is toast. And unlike Scooter Libby, Gonzo doesn't have the Beltway friends to have his back. This is terrible news for people who have done very bad things. Which means for the rest of humankind this is the start of something better.

"How many people died in a compound from fire as a result of Gonzales' direct orders?"
None, but the man who picked this third-rate judicial pimp to buttfuck Ms. Liberty and the U.S. Constitution until they were crosseyed, is responsible for the useless, bloody, invasion that has killed 3700 of our troops and (conservatively) several hundred thousand Iraqis who had jackshit to do with 9-11, and whom we now unspinnably know, were no threat to us.
Does that count?
"How many were grabbed from family members at the point of a gun to be returned to a communist nation?"
Probably not very many...but if he'd been a black Haitian kid, of no propaganda value to the rightwing in this country, he'd have been shipped back to Port-Au-Prince faster than you could say "Duvalier".
Oh. You left out that IN that communist country were a lot MORE of his family, including...taaadaaa...his father.
Anything else? :o)

It's amusing, in this day and age, to discover some right wing troll ranting about th' eeeee-vul commies as if this were, say, the mid-70's. And it's always the ones who are especially stupid who do this. Talk about yer throw-backs!
Last time I checked, one of Bush's concentration camps was situated in Communist Cuba, while the multinationals all love the cheap labor and total oppression of the work force in Communist China. Hell, the American right don't seem to mind communism all that much anymore. Get with the times, anonymous moron!
