Damn, who could have predicted that even the Tories would jump ship, and new labor would be the pariahs. (Gotta check out a copy of New Statesman for the rank and file labor response).

Nobody could have predicted that new labour would loose some of its' base by turning to the right. But knowing that all those foreigners want me to pull the lever for Obama might make me vote for him. That way I can. we're voting for him over here so that we don't have to vote for him over there.

This just re-aligns the Tories back where they _should_ be on the political spectrum, just right of centre. Other than a few crazy back-benchers (plus any members of the BNP or UKIP that happen to be running), the UK doesn't really have a party as far right as the US Republican party is at present.
Of course, if b***dy Labour actually governed as the left-of-centre party they're supposed to be, I'd be much happier! Guess I'll have to continue voting LibDem...

A recent ICM Opinion Poll showed British support for Obama at 55% whilst McCain has 11% (the rest offered no opinion).Given that no British political leader ever gets 45% these days you can take it that Obama has overwhelming support across all major parties.
Our next election will almost certainly be around April or early May 2010 and I'd be amazed if Brown survives. If I'm right, three quarters of what we'll happily call Obama's first term and at least a quarter of the next he'll be dealing with Cameron.
Back in the early 1960s Anthony Sampson wrote a book called 'The Anatomy Of Britain' in which he demonstrated that most of Britain's institutions were led by men linked to 2 aristocratic families. After Labour's 1964 victory he followed it up and showed that power had transferred to the middle classes. There it stayed and in John Major we had a Tory from humble origins and educational background seemingly completing the trend....
Then came the expensively educated Tony Blair followed next but one by Old Etonian (like our royalty) Cameron.Meanwhile your aristocrat (in effect) departs utterly unloved and you head off into the great unknown.
There is plenty of concern not least over Afghanistan where our fatalities will overtake those in Iraq in the early weeks of Obama's presidency but there can be no doubt that much of the world is waiting hopefully for Obama. Please ensure it happens.

Hmmmm... after getting pissed on by "rat-boy" for the last 7 years, and being told it was rain, they decided to stick a few knives into the beast. Jolly good show.
