Gravatar Jesse, I remember reading this when Gilly posted it back then and my thought at the time was what a great friend the person who wrote this was....and how could anyone not understand how important she is to her friends and family....far more important than the cells in her uterus.

We were maybe innocent in our understanding of how evil Bush and Cheney were back then....(being from Texas, I had a better idea than lots of people)....but we sure have seen how terrible their decisions in every instance and his choices for the Supremes have really been for our country.

The Supreme court is one of the most important reasons we have to have a D win in November. Our progressive friends and neighbors need to remind people of that every day until the election. With the next president likely to replace two justices, the court could be altered dramatically for the rest of our lives. FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. The next justices cannot be in the mold of Scaly or Roberts or Alito if you love your children. We cannot have a court packed with nutters who want to give every right to the corporations and take them from the people.

Tell your friends who are ambivalent about voting about this every chance you get. It really is the most important issue....maybe even more important than the war....and that is saying a lot.

Gravatar It's one of the primary reasons I'm still backing Obama despite the dump he just took on the fourth amendment.

Gravatar Given Obama's new found pragmatic/centrist 'style', who's to say what kind of 'justice' he might nominate. Center these days is pretty much right, leaning very right.......... leaning proto-fascist.

Gravatar He is not moving to the center.
see my previous comments in other threads on the current flawed strategy.

Gravatar tlg,

I haven't been around to real all recent prior threads. If you could provide a precis of your comments about said strategy, that would be appreciated.

Gravatar You Really Believe Obama will defend women's rights?

You are still drinking the Kool-Aid!

Gravatar LL:

Let's be clear. Hillary LOST THE NOMINATION.

So. The ball's in your court. Are you going to vote for McCain?

Gravatar The Grody Old Pirates reap horse-choking wads of political donation money from anti-abortionist fanatics.

If the Grody Old Pirates actually overturned Roe v. Wade, that cash cow would run dry.

One does not kill a goose that lays golden eggs.

BTW, I'm planning to vote for McKinney.

Gravatar SteveK |if we fix the court we fix FISA....if the law violates the 4th amendment then it will get shitcaned...thats why we have an indipendent judiciary branch that can kill bad laws.

Gravatar WTF?!

I don't get it, just because Obama voted for the FISA law that means he is now automatically worse than McCain on every issue?

I mean pull your fucking head out of your ass. Sure Obama isn't perfect and may even be worse on progressive issues than many believed at the start of the primary season. But he is still light years better than McCain on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE you might care about.

Sure, vote for McCain, lets have 2 or 3 more justices in the Alito, Roberts, Scalia, or Thomas mold. Lets continue to make the Federal government an arm of the Republican party. Lets continue to funnel vast amounts of US Treasury into the pockets of the Military-Industrial complex, Blackwater, Haliburton, and Exxon-Mobil. Lets eliminate the tax deduction for employer paid health care contributions. Lets privatize social security. Lets eliminate the corporate income tax. Lets give more tax cuts to the wealthy. Lets bomb Iran. Lets stay in Iraq "for 100 years". Lets continue to screw vets once they return from their service.

Lets do all of this because some of you don't think Obama is the perfect progressive canidate.

I mean lets completely ignore that while many of us had big problems with President Clinton's policies he was still a heck of a lot better from a progressive viewpoint than the previous 12 years of Reagan/Bush or the 8 years of shrub that followed.

Gravatar Get over it, vote for the guy with the (D) after his name. This election has to be about the Supreme Court. Obama is a pragmatic, a deal-maker - he's told us that from the get-go.

McCain, in contrast, is an angry idealogue.

On "Meet the Press" in 2000, McCain repeatedly told host Tim Russert that he supported a Constitutional amendment banning abortion:
Russert: But Senator, women across the country would say, "Senator McCain, prior to Roe v. Wade, hundreds of thousands of women a year went to the back alleys to have abortions."
McCain: I understand that.
Russert: Many died.
McCain: I understand that (NBC, Meet the Press, 1/30/00)

McCain thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned. See his 2008 campaign website.

Go see the British film "Vera Drake" again. Then vote for the Democrat.
