Rupert Murdoch now sits his evil ass in one of the seats of the AP's board.

If anyone hadn't written them off before, I suggest you do it now.

Gravatar It was probably an "honest" Freudian slip. :o)

I hope they keep doing it. It's a total insult to the intelligence and perceptions of the voters. Which intelligence and perceptions (as we see from bush's numbers swimming with the TidyBowl man) have been sharpened by 5-plus years worth of blood, bullshit, and koolaid.

Gravatar Well, maybe it was a mistake, but seeing this after getting the hate speech from Ken Blackwell with the wingnut footnote about obama being the anti-christ... I AM FED UP.

sheesh

Gravatar I like how Obama handled that. I like his "bring it" style. Its a winner and what we need. This is nothing compared with what we're going to be up against and I stand with the "bring it" man!!

It IS freaking bullshit though, mistake or not.

TLHG - I saw a clip of hrc at ykos saying she helped found media matters and another group. I haven't been there much since I heard her say that because it made me feel they might have a different bias. I don't know that they do, but it sure made me wonder. I don't know if she was having an imaginary moment or if that is true. I'd like to know if you have anything on that.

I'll go check them out on the Obama name front and see what they've got going on with that item.

Gravatar Pay attention to how Obama responds to these attempted smears, and you'll see his larger theme: he's calling BS on the sleazy political MSM and advertising methods that have been the norm for 40+ years. Past candidates (and Obama's current competition) either tried to ignore the smears or tried to rebut them, because they accepted that "that's the way politics are," and because they were scared of attacking the same machine they needed to get elected. Not Obama.

It's a smart strategy, if you take into account the generational factor discussed earlier by LM. The current political media system is the refined product of the Boomer generation, bearing all its hallmarks (confrontation for confrontation's sake, politics as fashion statement, the primacy of the "creative unit" over the product or person it's discussing, psychographics existing mainly to divide rather than to find commonalities). Hillary's advisor Mark Penn is an exemplar of this bankrupt and exhausted media philosophy, and for years he made a fortune off of what seemed to be "the way things are." Hasn't been working so well lately for him or his client, has it?

The reason: two generations now of voting age that have grown up with McLuhan, media studies programs, and self-referential culture (even in cartoons on Nickleodeon). Ads and MSM news stories that used to seem subtle and clever are now easily and instinctually recognized as clumsy and stupid by anyone under age 50, and many over that age. The result is two younger generations, along with many educated Boomers and Silents, who are are receptive to the Obama's message that the MSM is built on a foundation of complete BS. And he's going to get their support or at least their sympathy as a result.

So when you see Singleton, or Tweety, or Lil Russ try to pull this crap; when you see someone blow the racist or religious dog whistle in a smear e-mail or speech; and when you see Hillary lie about being under sniper fire as if it's still 1988 and no one can look up the video, get ready for more and more people to follow Obama's lead and unhesitatingly and fearlessly deconstruct the sham. And they have a medium of their own to convey that message.

As others have noted in this thread, people are getting fed up with having their intelligence insulted by the MSM and by candidates like Hillary and McCain. Only one Presidential contender has positioned himself to appeal to them (and indeed, only one is capable of doing so).

Gravatar OTD we have had a big part of that...every one here and on other blogs...the level of discourse has been riseing, a massive alternative press has risen allowign people to pull the wool off of their eyes. sure the MSM are still the gate keepres, we just tore down the wall that the gate was attached to.

we are right now watching the democritization of information...the decentrilization of power, and for the first time the democratization of our democracy.

good old bucky, wish he was alive to see it all come to bare.

Gravatar Look up "superempowerment" on Google sometime, moonglum.

It's not just for terrorists anymore. LOL.

Gravatar Moonglum's optimism is spot-on.

We are all watching the hammering of a conservative construct and worldview that deserves extinction more than any dinosaur.
It's fractious, even betwixt progressives, messy, and painful, evem dangerous, as we will find out out far they're willing to go to escape political retribution for what they've done to us and to Iraq...and really, the world. But it's a purgative that, one way or the other, we have to take.

Barring some major mistake by Obama, Hillary Clinton cannot win the nomination, and that means John McCain is the sacrificial goat which the GOP has been perfectly willing for him to be, all along. With any luck, in a few months, we may have george bush on the platter, too. :o)

And here's one HELL of a paragraph from a good piece in Salon, by Gary Kamiya, linked by good ol AW.com.:

"This is a surreal situation. The war drones along on autopilot, but it's already finished. It's a dead war walking. We're just waiting for George W. Bush to leave.
In Vietnam the slogan was:

"How do you ask someone to be the last man to die for a mistake?"

In Iraq, it's:

"How do you ask someone to be the last man to die so that the worst president in U.S. history can keep his doomed war going until he leaves office, so he can blame his successor for losing it?"

Here's the whole piece:

http://www.salon.com/opinion/kam...n_commandments/

Gravatar And this is up on AW.Com, too, about another Iraqi unit that bailed in Basra last night.

Shorter U.S. plea:

"Why aren't you guys willing to kill your fellow Shiites, and risk being killed, yourselves, to help George Bush and John McCain and the republican party this November?"

Gravatar This Singleton fellow should be flogged on live TV. Give a whole new and useful twist to "reality TV."

Lieberman willing to star at Republican convention

Gravatar Komack! Good link! :o)

Why not? I hope he goes up to Minneapolis, puts on a sequin thong and nothing else, and struts and bumps and grinds his way out to the GOP podium like Gypsy Rose Lee. :o)

Stand up for what you believe, Joe and St. John, and all the goopers! No retreat! Stay the course!

You guys should be bragging about beating the longevity record for the "War of the Roses" all to hell and gone! :o)

The voters, with banks evicting them from their homes, and car-pooling to go the grocery store, where they took out a loan to feed their families for a month, will love it. :o)

With any luck, we can get a shot of Short-ride Joe, sniffing McCain's armpit with all the soul-satisfying pleasure that St. John showed when he did the same for bush. :o)

Gravatar Tanbark:

"With any luck, we can get a shot of Short-ride Joe, sniffing McCain's armpit with all the soul-satisfying pleasure that St. John showed when he did the same for bush."

Ewwwwww...my eyes!

Gravatar "we are right now watching the democritization of information...the decentrilization of power, and for the first time the democratization of our democracy."

We're getting there, and Obama's definitely a start when it comes to politics. Give it another 10 years, and (as long as Network Neutrality is preserved) the Boomer BS machine will finally be rendered obsolete and irrelevant.

Of course, there will be other BS machines waiting in the wings, but I tend to think they'll be harder to implement and, faced with crowdsourced analysis, will have much shorter lifespans.

Gravatar Lieberman willing to star at Republican convention

A politician who had the guts to actually cross the aisle (several times) coined the perfect term for Holy Joe: "The Boneless Wonder."

Gravatar Obama may win it all, but thinking he will do so easily demonstrates excessive optimism.

Many of our fellow citizens still don't know better than to trust the Corporate Holodeck Media, which is heavily dedicated to McSame.

Also, let's not forget good old Banana Republican voter suppression and vote fraud. [Banana Republicans=Elephascists=Evil GOP Bastards]

Plus, Obama, despite his keen intelligence in other matters, apparently doesn't realize that feminists and LGBT people are important constituencies of the Democratic Party, and so he would do well to mend fences with them.

Also, the minions of the Corporate Holodeck Media have apparently received marching orders from their owners to start getting nasty with Obama. The more he looks like the nominee, the more the CHM will slime him. If he IS nominated, the CHM will paint a target on him.

The difference between the attacks Obama receives from other Democrats and the attacks he will get from the GOP/CHM slime machine resembles the difference between the laser beam on your CD player and the main phaser batteries of a Romulan Warbird.

And I mean the TNG/DS9 Warbird, not the TOS Warbird.

Ultimately, however, the outcome of the Presidential election will depend less on anything Obama or Clinton or McSame says or doesn't say, or does or doesn't do, than on what the wars [we have more than one going, lest we forget] and the economy do or don't do between now and Election Day.

If the Elephascists, with the concealing assistance of the Corporate Holodeck Media, can keep the wars and the economy rattling and staggering along one step ahead of total nosedive collapse, hello President McSame.

If the Elephascists can't keep juggling those balls, hello Democratic President.

Gravatar you have a choice: be a fighting liberal or sit quietly. I know what I am, what are you?

Gilly.

Gravatar Komack:

Lieberman willing to star at Republican convention.

I truly have had ENOUGH of this sellout. When the hell are Democrats going to pull his ID card and his seniority? Why does Pelosi and Reid put up with him? He ain't coming back to sanity. And then, Obama had campaigned for the tool over Lamont!

I view Obama's ascendancy into the Oval Office as one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to clean house all the way back to the gypping Gipper. It's just too bad we all might have to wait until Lamont gets a rematch. However, just as Pelosi suddenly grew a length of spine on some recent issues, the leadership shouldn't wait too long before stripping Lieberpuss of any claims to power.

Gravatar blksista:

You are a better person than I am, 'cause I don't think Reid or Pelosi have a spine (I know you just mentioned Pelosi).

I'm just waiting to see how all this stuff ends.

Oh...I AM TIRED OF THIS MOFO LIEBERMAN ON THE MOFO COMMITTEES!

Gravatar Minstrel , you just killed me. tears in eyes... back to the fight.

Gravatar chomp!

suns aren't enough: bring the black holes and be done with 'em!

Gravatar Speaking of not putting up with the Boomer BS Machine, check out the reaction to last night's debate on ABC. 10000+ comments, most of which rip Stephanopoulos, Gibson, and ABC News new ones for their craptastic, MSM-as-usual performance.

Gravatar Obama:

I recommend that anyone interested in this topic read this commentary by a Philadelphia journalist at the Philly.com website. It would be difficult for even the considerable talent we have writing for this blog to improve on those words, so perhaps posting an excerpt and a link to this guy's blog-entry would be a good way to generate some discussion here at our place.

Here's the comment that I contributed over there:

I have to say that I just love the way the mouth-breathing freeptards are attempting to defend this travesty when it was so obviously a joke that the audience at the debate itself was booing. It looks like the little inbred rednecks are peeing their collective pants that informed voters are sick of having the tone of discourse set by a bunch of knuckle-dragging troglodytes. (You dittoheads might want to look up that last word at Dictionary.com. You do know what a dictionary is, right?) And true to form, they only thing they can do when cornered is scream "Liberal media elite! Liberal media elite!" at the top of their lungs like a bunch of molting parrots on crystal meth. Setting up a debate so that it is essentially an ambush of the most liberal candidate doesn't sound like much of a "liberal media elite" to me. Do you suppose the talk-radio crowd continually regurgitate this meme because their mindset is so brittle and insecure that they can't stand anything that doesn't blare reactionary hate-proppaganda 24/7?

I was attempting to channel the Spirit of Driftglass with that one. While I didn't entirely succeed in terms of sheer writing quality, I did reasonably well in capturing the "Enough of this ridiculous crap!" tone of frustration with a woefully corrupted national discourse.

Gravatar I jsut wonder if there is anyone left after last nights debat that won't conceade the hillary is a republican point?
