Gravatar Try a bit of balsamic vinegar on the strawberries.

Gravatar Here's a radish idea! Slice them and saute in a little butter with a pinch of salt and pepper, saute until tender-crisp and serve hot. They are good as cooked veggies, too, and nobody ever does it. Pretty, too.

MMMmmmmmm S-A-L-S-A-A-a-a-a! Always good with hyperbolic blessings.

Gravatar That is super raging awesome, Jen. I bet your kitchen smells wonderful and feels cozy and fresh.

Blessings upon your head!

Gravatar "Filthy" is perhaps too strong a word to describe the sand and sandy soil on the organic produce. Perhaps the high winds and rain recently kicked up more "dirt" onto the veggies and strawbs?

Gravatar My fav with strawberries is a tad of sugar to macerate them and then sprinkle them with chopped fresh mint. Soooo yummy -- good on yogurt, on anything. For shortcake, I use a lemon & rosemary pound cake (sooo bad for you so I only make it a few times each year) but combined with the minted berries it's like Mediterranean shortcake. It's fab and makes regular shortcake pale in comparison, imo.

I would never think to saute radishes! Will have to try. Got a bunch of multi-colored radishes at the farmers mkt last week -- red, pink, purple & white -- so pretty.

That's interesting re: lining the refrig crisper with paper towels and just setting veggies in there -- alleviates the need for tons of plastic bags. Will have to try it.

Happy eating, everyone!

Gravatar Radishes and butter are delightful together. Mrs. Stoopid and I often make a meal of a baguette, some radishes, and some butter (we're not losing any pounds on that move-but we shake a leg, so it balances, I hope).

Also, strawberries are a perfect delight with sour cream. Way awesomer than it sounds (throw in a little light brown sugar if the berries need some sweetening). And yeah, the balsamic suggestion from above-I second it.

Summer's a good time to get in on some CSA. I hope you keep us up to date as the fall and winter roll around and things get a little less conventional (says the guy who's never heard of peppercress).

Gravatar Thank you all, please keep the ideas coming!

RE Radishes--will have to try the various braising/steaming options suggested here and elsewhere online. Also, I LOVE radishes and butter on bread; may try that done with some of my herb butter tonite. :D
