Gravatar man, this guy is SUCH a liar.

how can people just ignore that he has no grasp or reality. it is totally bush dejavu.

i can't stand it.

Gravatar You bet it's bullshit. He's got the tear ploy and added that crap. You knew as soon as he said it that it was pure bs. He got his playbook at a "retire the debt" fire sale.

Gravatar "And then he and his jailer sprouted wings, and flew over the walls together into freedom..."

Like two pot-bellied pigs...

Gravatar mmm... pot-bellied pigs...

Gravatar Coincidentally, 1999 was when he started running for the GOP nomination and presumably needed to shore up support with the Christian Right he didn't give a damn about before. Talk about overplaying one's hand. His years as a POW closed off discussion of a mediocre (to put it kindly) Navy career and could put him in the White House like nothing else in his political career could do. But, no, that's not quite enough...

Gravatar What scares me is that there are millions of "Borg" that will vote for him because of his "POW" experience.

Gravatar Well, there is nothing those christianists love to hear more than a tale of a put-upon christian who is kept from his beloved religion....a bonus when he also is able to convey this religion surreptitiously to another believer so that they all can revel in their super secret club. And mock the people not in the club.

Back in the day when I was a kid and dragged to the southern baptist church with my parents, that was the way they liked to talk about regimes who suppressed religions....that the power of their belief was always so great that these secret clubs were always able to sprout up and spread the word.

Even at the tender age of 8 or so, bullshit was always my thought.

McCain telling this story stolen from Solzhenitsyn is just a pander to the group who loves this kind of tale.

Gravatar McCain can steal from Solzhenitsyn now - the guy's dead. I'm waiting for him to start stealing from Corrie ten Boom's "The Hiding Place" or "The Diary of Ann Frank" next.

Anything goes in order to woo The Moral Minority.

Gravatar mebbe he thinks it makes up for being a war criminal

yes, he admitted it under torture, but torture works, right?

Gravatar This guy doesn't seem to be able to distinguish reality from fantasy.

Another reason you really don't want this fellow with his finger on the red button in this age of heightened tension among nuclear-armed world-powers.

I'm starting to agree with Kim C. who in another thread said the ReThugs want to lose this time around because massive economic collapse is pretty much inevitable at this point. Yes, you would have to be a complete and total mouth-breather to think a collapse that happened three months after Obama's swearing in was his fault, but we all know there is no shortage of such mouth breathers among the voting population!

Gravatar I sometimes suspect the same thing as Kim C. and L&L, but if that be true, it could backfire on the Elephascists:

According to electoral-vote.com, Obama leads 275-250-13 [VA is tied], while on this day in 2004, Kerry led Bush 317-202-19.

THIS time, the Elephascists may need to use their cheating tactics to give the White House to the Democratic candidate.

Gravatar MftI:

Two things, I would say, can be blamed for the narrowness of Obama's lead. 1) Obama's FISA sell-out (and let us not forget that besides the retroactive telecom immunity, that "spy bill" itself essentially establishes the infrastructure of a nascent police-state) and 2), probably more importantly, the overall mood of total cynicism about established institutions in this country. As I said in that other thread I mentioned, I almost wasn't going to bother to vote, but the insanity in the Caucasus combined with some timely viewing of clips from Threads and The Day After on YouTube turned me around.

Gravatar Remember how Ronald Reagan used to tell "war stories" of his "experiences" in WWII?

He was telling the plot points of his movies, as if they had really happened in the war.

Gravatar chg:

Yes, and it was Reagan who gave us that hair-raising "In five minutes, we will start bombing [the USSR]" moment when he was kidding around on live-radio. Had so much as a flock birds flown past Soviet radar in the hour or so following that cute "joke", it would have been WW-motherfucking-III.

Gravatar Wondered where he got it:

Mccain wrote an article in the August 4, 2008 for the New York Sun called "solzhenitsyn at Work"

http://www.nysun.com/opinion/sol...-at-work/83117/

Gravatar apples and oranges ID, this day in 2004 kerry was still living off teh convention bounce, he droped ratehr rapidly after teh repub convention that happend in a few weeks.

compare pre convention numbers, or post convention numbers after next week....oh wait yuo need the apples and oranges false comparison to prove your point....

Gravatar The Solzhenitsyn story was a cross drawn by one prisoner for another prisoner.

McCain's story is of a guard drawing a cross for a prisoner.

Gee, wonder how many times throughout history a cross has been drawn in the sand or dirt?

Much ado about nothing.

Gravatar The Russians and Chinese are part of the global "crapitalist" system now, so we ain't havin' WW3 no matter who becomes Prez. Their powers-that-be have too much to lose if that happens, just like our powers-that-be.

Whichever candidate wins will become a lot more accomodating to the Russkies once he no longer has to appeal to gung-ho hawkish voters. Reagan wasn't half the hawk in practice that he was in rhetoric.

Been there, done that. Yawn.

Gravatar >The Solzhenitsyn story was a cross drawn by one prisoner for another prisoner.
>McCain's story is of a guard drawing a cross for a prisoner.

Oh yeah... they're TOTALLY different..

Except McCain didnt start telling his until 1999.

Much Ado my ass...

Gravatar >how many times throughout history a cross has been drawn in the sand or dirt?

Lets ask Jesus, he will know!

Gravatar Lets ask Jesus, he will know!
heh.

Gravatar It's just highly unlikely that his guard was a "Christian".... it's a crock. I was waiting for him to add.... "and then he whipped it out and pissed on that cross there in the sand".

Id - is this were you go back and brag on riverdaughter as IBW about your doing your part on the obama takedown and holding reagan up as some kind of icon of Democratic values? Jes wondering. You seem to be quite proud of that.

Gravatar 6:37pm--

Reagan was a vastly overrated dipshit, and no exemplar of any values worth mentioning, but Ron was not a ten-foot Orc with fangs dripping radioactive green acid, either. [BTW, I was too young to vote in 1980, but I voted for Mondale in 1984. I'm leaning toward McKinney this year.]

I'm noticing the same intolerance of dissent and complete assurance of their own righteousness from the followers of Plastic Jesus that I've been seeing for years from the followers of Reagan, the Bush crime family, and the Elephascist Party in general. Different ideology, same sociopathy.

Thanx to Indeterminate-Age Mutant Ninja Myrtle for providing me with yet another example of the Baby Bolshevik attitudes that have bizarrely taken over the Democratic Party.

That's bugging me about the blues lately; they're acting so much like the reds--both our modern reds and the original Reds, and I don't mean the Cincinnati baseball team.

Gravatar Reagan and Obama cut from the same cloth? Lord, I can die now, cuz I've heard it all.

Ninja--is that sort of like the Dungeons and Dragons crowd?

Gravatar Lookit here Little MaryID/IBW Sunshine.... Reagan is dead. Newsflash.

What you're seeing in the BLUE party is the FED up with the whiners who bring this namby pamby bs to the table. We want some progress... in the right direction. That direction is a HARRRRRD left back to at least the center and a little to the left of it for me, personally. Yours and RD's candidate could fuck up up a lemonade stand at high noon on the hottest day of summer on the busiest corner in the world. Fail.

The people just want to win and get our country back and we don't appreciate having stop and cajole a bunch of people who lack that focus. Pretty simple really.

Anyway, Reagan is dead. Let it go.

Gravatar "The people just want to win, etc."--Mutant Ninja Myrtle

WHICH people?

It occurs to me that fascists, communists, and other authoritarians of all stripes claim to speak for "the people", all the while nurturing their own greed and lust for power.

The events of this election year have taught me the dreary fact that misogyny, self-righteousness, groupthink, authoritarianism, and the reckless dismissal of careful thought in favor of mob psychology, all run rampant among the "progressive" community as well as the among the right-wing yahoos.
The metaphoric Kool-Aid comes in many flavors, and not all of them are right-wing.

Gravatar MID..the dope pushing clinton is acuseign others of beign authoritarian...eprhaps he forgot the 90's.....whiel bushes expantion of federal powers may cause us to forgive clintons a little(eh worked at a slower pace) the erosion of personal freedom and the expansion of our coperate fudal system did not slow down under clinton...perhaps teh rate of acceleration was down a bit, but it was still a steady macrch towards an authoritarian state.

while im gald yo are clining to your misogyny hammer, you will eventual learn that we are not nails.

Gravatar The metaphoric Kool-Aid comes in many flavors, and not all of them are right-wing.

The difference between the left-wing Kool-Aid and the right-wing Kool-Aid, though, is one of efficacy. When Joe Redstater marks the ballot for the ReThugs, he knows he's going to get what he wants and agrees with. When Jack Bluestater marks his ballot for the Dems, he knows in his heart he's not going to get anything remotely close to what he wants and agrees with, but he does it anyway due to peer-pressure and wanting to think he can mitigate his country's self-inflicted death-spiral in some way.

Gravatar IBW - First off Thank YOU... My recollection, based on my nephew's 5 year old superhero action figure play in the early 90's, is that the Mutant Ninja Turtles were the GOOD guys. So I take great pride in your new designation. Its an honor to be recognized as one of the GOOD guys/people/Turtlettas *shining fingernails on chest*

Second, "The People" = The adults. The outcry for adult supervision has been heeded and we are going to take the situation in hand. Get ready.

Gravatar actualy late 80's early 90's TMNT where not jsut good guys, it was a realy edgy, mature audience oriented indy comic...sure the creators sold out forthe cash, and aimed at kids...but it was at the vangaurd of some really progresive stuff (TMNT, ysumbi, paul the samuri) a black and white revolution taht lead to things like vandeta and watchmen out of england.

Gravatar Mutant Ninja moonglum - Excellent! I had no idea. Double honored then. Happy to be counted among the progressives

- Mutant Ninja Myrtle Hussein Misogynist June.... (too long for haloscan name field though)

Gravatar Thank YOU, Myrtle. With that phrase "Adult supervision", you put your finger on what many USAmericans, not all of us conservative by any means, find most grating about your particular variety of "progressive".

The members of your particular set of progs [not all progs are like this, of course] think y'all are the only real adults, and the rest of us biological adults are psychologically adolescent at best, just too mean or selfish or just plain stupid to know what's good for us, and so we have to be guided.

Like the Dominionists, deep down y'all want to restrict the franchise to only the moral "elect"--just with a different ideology about what viewpoints are morally correct--while we miserable depraved sinners can just shut up and salute.

Some of you are self-aware enough to recognize this and you try to suppress it, but it still slips out once in a while, as it did in the now-infamous "bitter" speech.

Your Chosen One and his supporters are taking a huge gamble; you're betting that there is this huge untapped reservoir of righteous blue citizens y'all can mobilize to sweep all opposition before them; therefore, you can freely scold us sinful rubes to your Puritan hearts' content, with no fear of effective retaliation on Election Day.

To quote Asia out of context, "only time will tell".

Gravatar Apologies for the double post; Hell-O-Scam is playing games again.

Gravatar errrrr... no. I just think your intention is to sabotage with deafeatisms. Not helpful.

Don't mistake the adults I speak of with the parental control the republicans and the republican wing of the Dems (DLC). I'm talking about ADULT, not parental. But you're very welcome. Always, happy to help

Gravatar Your Chosen One and his supporters are taking a huge gamble; you're betting that there is this huge untapped reservoir of righteous blue citizens y'all can mobilize to sweep all opposition before them;

Too bad the bluest of us were put off by the FISA/spy-bill sell-out. Not to mention a very belated realization of How Things Really Are. So what might us disaffected bluest-blues be called? Blue-Greens, given that the positions of the Green Party, however a pumpkin-squat organization it may be, best represents our views?

Gravatar Maybe Aquamarine-Teals?

Gravatar I loves me this picture. It sums up the real relationship between the Netroots and the Democratic Party establishment so well!

Gravatar Nancy Pelosi is a Democrat? Who knew...

Gravatar Loveandlight : you watch the greens...bunch of authoritarian nut jobs run that show...'

Obama may not be perfect, the dems may not be perfect, but they are the best shot we have.

more over, if we push to hard to fast the backswing will kill us...the harder you push to the left, the more energy you put in the opendulum, the worse thigns are goign to get, that was one the the biggest mistakes of the previous gerneation. they wanted everythign, and they wanted it ight now, no relization at all that its all a cycle, its all a penduluim, if you push it hard left it will swing back hard right...we need to slow the whole mess down, take energy out..get what needs to be done while massigeing the whol left back into a sembilance of sanity.
