Given that a large proportion of the men now sitting on the court would fit in better, say, around 1610, who's surprised. Impartial judiciary my rear end!

......... and given that all the male Republican senators are little more than neanderthals, drooling and twitching at their master's orders........same result.

Gravatar we got close in the senate, but it just kills me. no one questions that she has been the victim of discrimination; but they are protecting corp. America by making sure she doesn't get compensation thereby opening the doors to similar actions. It is pure corp. protectionism. And another slap in the face of middle class america and a big hurray for sexism in the workplace.

Gravatar John McSame, that maverick, was one of the 2 senators who didn't vote. The 42 Nays are all republican.

Gravatar This points to one of the the most important considerations in voting for one of the presidential candidates:
Coat tails.

We need to get as close as we can to a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. This wouldn't have happened if we had four more senators on our side (or 3 plus Senator Reid acting like a Democrat).

Gravatar I spent some time last year in Canada, since I was on a research leave collecting data.

And day-after-day as I walked to my office at UT, I would walk past several major construction projects. My biggest surprise? The number of female hard-hats. They were probably 25% of all workers. I was simply astounded.

When queried, one of my Canadian hosts said both the federal government and the province had fairly aggressive gender-equity laws that targeted historically male trades.

I was completely impressed. And obviously Canadian business and industry have not died because of these laws.

Too bad the US is so loathe to steal really good policy ideas from our neighbors.....

Gravatar So depressing. I can't even make a joke about it.

Gravatar I called my idiot senators Chambliss and Isakson - fat lot of good that did. If Bush hasn't farted the thought into their heads, they're just empty, bouncy balloons.

Gravatar Hi, I'm trying to spread the word about a campaign to support Lilly Ledbetter and fair pay practices by getting 10,000+ supporters to start boycotting Goodyear on Mother' Day.

If policy makers won't do it, consumers can. Historically, boycotting has been one of the most powerful tools of the masses.

You can read about the campaign at my blog, or just go straight to the campaign here:
https://www.thepoint.com/campaign...er/ headquarters

I am using thepoint.com to manage and promote the campaign. Sign up is easy and free. I hope you'll spread the word about the campaign. We need a lot of momentum to get that number by Mother's Day!!

Gravatar There seems to be a dangerous line of thinking that we shouldn't have civil rights laws because... well, people might use them to file a lawsuit. It is troubling that we have moved from an understanding that fighting for just is a good thing. Instead, the argument seems to be that lawsuits are so inherently bad than any legislation that could lead to a lawsuit must not be allowed to pass.

Gravatar And some assholes say we don't need an ERA in the US Constitution.

I have no doubt that the conservative members of the court would effectively invalidate every bit of Federal legislation giving women the same rights as men.
