Gravatar Langston Hughes is one of my favorite poets. His stuff still makes solid sense all these decades later. I'd recommend him to anyone.

And yeah, first time I read that point, I got it. America has always left some people out of its promise. Doesn't mean it's a bad country. Just means we have to do better.

Gravatar On the money H'S'.

Gravatar oh, thank you for posting this! He is one of my major inspirations, and I always hope he would get wider recognition.

Gravatar yes, you must be some amerika-hating mo'fo to put this up...

I LOVE it. fuck the man.

Gravatar This is so heart-breakingly beautiful, and never more timely - once again. Thank you.

Gravatar Well, all I can say is that the asshats who complain about Rev. Wright and what he preaches from his pulpit have never read this beautiful poem. They will never understand, and their real problem is that they never WANT to understand. They want to continue with the delustion that the country they live in is what they think it is.

Problem is, their president is one of the main reasons it's in the trash barrel now.

Gravatar Great poem, thanks for posting. Indeed it still rings very true.

Reminds me of one of my more modern fav quotes, from Bruce Springsteen:

"The country we carry in our hearts is waiting."
