I agree, Stormcrow, if only the Democratic party as a whole, starting with Obama, would learn this lesson about conservative bullies! I feel that Obama is following in John Kerry's footsteps and is not facing down the McCain campaign's bullies and he will rue the day if he doesn't get it together ASAP. Good on Ms. Garcia!
i finally had reached the "up to here" level with the racist bullies at my arizona highschool. i went absolutely tribal apeshit on a whole group of them one day. full speed, full throttle attack, out of the blue, didn't quit until i was oxygen starved and gasping.
my cousin, the soon to be brilliant attorney, and the object of their racial "fun poking," looked at me with a mixture of awe, fear, and dread (he knew that the school would find ways to blame the whole thing on us) and said
dude, that was totally crazy.
i told him something that has been with me ever since.

one of the things that made my move away from arizona back to california easy was the racism, hard line segregation, open lines and boundaries that are not ever crossed. all through that place.

My brother used to live in Scottsdale and he thinks Arpaio is an asshole too. And he wasn't alone. Many people think he's a publicity whore and a fool. As for the hate radio guy, feel sorry for his family. Having that creepy asshole around the house has got to be a burden to them.

Bingo! I have long suspected (as a former 12-year Maricopa County resident) that part of the reason Sheriff Joe clings to power so desperately is that he has a LOT of scams and suchlike going on in his department, scams that benefit him personally, and that if he ever gets voted out, these will come to light and he may well have to spend the rest of his life in his own Tent City jail. (Yes, I know that technically, he'd go to a state or federal prison, but a man can hope...) And this is before we even get into the various abuses and physical crimes he and his minions have committed with regard to inmates in their custody (most of whom haven't been convicted yet, if they ever will be)--he's already cost the county millions of dollars in lawsuits and settlements. Somehow, the idiots in Sun City keep voting him in, thinking he's keeping them safe from, well, who knows what?
The Phoenix _New Times_ has a whole archive on their website of their various Sheriff Joe corruption and abuse-related articles. Joe keeps attacking them every way he can, but they won't let up.
Hopefully, this is the year that he finally gets voted out. Frankly, I would pay good money for a webcam stream of him and his equally corrupt deputy Dave Hendershott languishing in the Tents in a nice, hot Arizona summer.
