yeah, isaac hit me hard too LM. only worked with him once. it was the grammy's gig, with Quincy Jones on the baton.
killer band, killer tunes, we rocked out loud all night.
isaac hayes was a gentleman. cool as ice cream, that smooth too. when we broke from the endless rehearsals of that show, he went with the rest of us day jobbers down to the caf and grabbed him a tray. he was more than a bit shy, as are a whole lot of musicians, it's often mistaken for being aloof, but it's not. it's that there are a whole lot of us that don't know what to say or do until the lights hit.
when the lights hit isaac, goddamn man, that brother did shine.
oh dear sister won't you lay and take your rest,
won't you lay your head
upon your savior's breast
and i love you
but jesus loves you the best
and i bid you goodnight
goodnight
goodnight
goodnight, my darling, sweet goodnight

I heart the video of Isaac Hayes at the Watts concert - the Oscar-winning composer in pukka-shell chain mail loving his audience.
It's not a patch on his performance at the Oscars, but that doesn't appear to be on YouTube.

Thanks, LM, for the remembrance of Robin Harris. I,too, saw the resemblance between Harris and Bernie Mac in situational humor.
Isaac Hayes' influence is faithfully rendered by you. 'Walk on By" and "By the The Time I Get to Phoenix" are emblematic of my young adulthood.
Thanks for putting my emotions into words.

It's a damn shame about Issac Hayes, especially so immediately on the heels of Bernie Mac's passing.

loosing Mr. Mac and Mr. Hayes is, to my sentimental mind, like losing elder statesmen who act as living examples of the best and brightest. But as you've wisely pointed out, their hard work, dedication, and soul live on in so many many ways. Heart felt condolences to their families, and loved ones.
& LM, as ever I find your writing on almost any subject far more engaging, informative and poignant than 99.999999% of the scribes out there. I could try to read from the newz outlets all day and not find one thing that really spells out the heart like you do. So, Thanks for all that ya do.
