Gravatar she pisses off teh supposed "feminist" hillarytrolls taht claim no other women is good enough...that needs to go on the lsit of pluses

Gravatar LG, She sounds like she's certainly worth considering.

And, I don't buy the notion that the Clinton supporters will resent his picking a woman not Hillary.

Has Sebelius publicly speculated about the possibility of Obama's being assassinated as a career-advancing occurence?

Gravatar Sorry for the OT, Gator, but Tim Russert has died of an apparent heart attack:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080...tv/ obit_russert

Gravatar SW, saw that on CNBC. My thoughts are with his family.

He supposedly died at his desk, while at work, and was 58 years old.

Gravatar A plain spoken Kansan may be a good addition to the Ticket. We could call it the the Heartland Ticket... progressives from America's Midwest.

______________

The cowtowing to Hillary is getting a bit old. Why would people be pissed for one good woman to be on the ticket instead of another? Just because it is not "their" woman? I do admit some would be pissed.

Gravatar Not all Clinton supporters will be upset about her being on the ticket but definitely some will.

There was a poll recently by NBC and the wall St. Journal saying that an equal number of people would be more likely and less likely to vote for Obama if HRC is on the ticket.

55% say it makes no difference.

So it's a wash and considering that attacking Hillary would be the one bright spot in what looks like a dismal election for the GOP so why go there?

Seblius seems like a fine choice and should not be excluded just because she's a woman who isn't Hillary Clinton.

You know for all the talk about Obama supporters being a cult some of Clinton's hardcore supporters have that whole cult of personality thing down.

Gravatar OT too.

I can't say that I was always the biggest fan of Tim Russert's journalism but seeing the Tom Brokaw's heart wrenching announcement of his death and Keith Olbermann breaking down on air as he reads the tributes to Russert coming in from everywhere let's you know if nothing else all the good things that people said about the man as a person, husband and father were true.

Condolences to Russert's family.

R.I.P. Tim.

Gravatar I'm beginning to think that an important criterion for an Obama ticket is the person's comfort level with the changes the Obama campaign machine has wrought in how politics is done and campaigns are conducted -- No Drama; talk as if your listeners are intelligent people ready to be active, empowered citizens; It's Not About the Candidate; Command the Frame.

Sibelius is sounding good, but does she grok the O-machine?

Gravatar i will say this once again

if i were obama, i would already have a short list

sebelius and webb

thats it

and its a toss up as to who i would pick

Gravatar to the original question of the thread;

yes!

Gravatar ps - what moonglum sedz! lmao!

Gravatar she is certainly worth a long look. having won while holding progressive viewpoints in a decidely non-progressive state she would have to have already developed an ear for approaching attack and a familiarity with the tactics and tricks of the authoritarian assholes.

that speaks volumes. i would easily be able to support her. hillary is out of the race, if she gets her feelings hurt by the choice (we would hear the howling from here in california if richardson was picked) tough. thing is, there isn't any respectable foundation for a stand of "no woman but hillary." if the choice is not her (and i hope to milk fucking chocolate jesus on a skateboard it is not) then her involvement with the process and her opinion on the choice is meaningless.

Gravatar I'm just shocked people keep floating Webb. The man was a Republican in the reagan admin! Nuff about that noise. REPUBLICAN, and REAGAN REPUBLICAN.

Sibelius - I cannot get past her belonging to the Clintonista org DLC. I'm tire of the mealy mouth crap and if she's up there along harold ford, she can't be on the veep list. Harold Ford is a republican and the DLC's pandering to the right is how we've lost the last two and have a jellyfish congress. http://www.dlc.org/ndol_ka.cfm?k...cfm? kaid=450015

There's got to be other people who have not been quite so cozy with republicans, isn't there?

Kathleen Sebilius and my Wingnut Brother.

Wed Jun 11th 2008, 01:04 PM

Ok. Like many of you, I have a wingnut relative. My baby brother is ex-military (served in Gulf War I), and is currently a Pennsylvania State Trooper. We don't argue politics much, because he has a short temper and hates losing arguments. And he has a gun. And is TOTALLY not above giving me speeding tickets in retaliation.

So, anyways, as of this past Easter, he was gung-ho on McCain, and the rest of the family were all stupid to be supporting Hitlery Clinton, or "Hussein" Obama.

Bla, bla bla - the standard holiday family gathering crap that all of us have to put up with.

So imagine my surprise this past week when I found out that My Wingnut Brother - the cop who voted for Bush twice, and for Santorum every time he ran tels me that he's decided to vote for Obama.

"Getouttafuckintown!" I replied.

"No really," he tells me. "I think the country's in bad shape, and I don't think McCain will fix it. I think Obama will at least try to get the job done."

By this time I'm looking around for Alan Fundt and the hidden cameras. "Ok," I says, "I'll bite. Did you get hit in the head? Are you dying from cancer? Were you replaced by an alien pod of some kind?"

"Nope. I've just been thinking about it a lot since before the primary."

After a bit of probing and cajoling, I found out what started him thinking.

When the candidates and their surrogates were blitzing the area in the leadup to the PA primary, he was the State cop who picked up Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebilius at the airport and drove her around during her visit to our little chunk o' Pennsyltucky to stump for Obama. And somewhere during that couple of hours, something she said must have clicked something in his little wingnut brain. Somehow she turned him away from his reflexive, kneejerk support for all things Republican, and planted the seeds that eventually grew into an acknowledgment that the country is fucked if we continue on like we are.

"You know," he told me the other day, a couple months after her visit, "If Obama's smart, he should pick that Sebelius lady from Kansas for his Vice President. She'd be really good."

I don't know what she said to him, or even what they talked about. I have no freakin' clue how she did it. But somehow, some way, spending a few hours driving her around to speaking engagements accomplished what I haven't been able to do in the 20 or so years ee and I've been fighting over this stuff.

Of course, he was probably more receptive to her arguments than mine, seeing how the Governor of Kansas never held him down and made him eat dirty sweatsocks when he was a kid.

Hey, I never claimed to be a diplomat.

Gravatar KnaveRupe, that's quite a story - and quite an endorsement. In fact I think it answers my earlier question.

Gravatar A couple of nights ago I was talking with one of our Democratic Kansas State representatives at a meeting she and I attended and I asked her if she had any insight into what the governor might do.

She told me that KS was not actively seeking the VP spot. She added that she personally hoped KS would go for Brownback's Senate seat in 2010.

But then again, she said, who knows?

That's as far as I got.

Nancy Kassebaum was a very popular US Senator ( Republican ) during Clinton's terms, and it's my opinion the governor would like to follow suit in a couple of years.

..

Gravatar Sebelius and Janet Napolitano are my top two picks. They're smart, successful governors from traditionally red states, and they're good campaigners.

Would Hillary's supporters revolt if Obama picked another woman to be his running mate? That depends - do they want to break the glass ceiling for women or just for Hillary Clinton? I'm sure some would be pissed, but I think most would be very happy to take a huge step in electing a woman to the presidency.

Napolitano is the more compelling pick if you want to put Obama's running mate in position to be the heir apparent in 2016. She will be 58 in 2016 compared to 68 for Sebelius. She would also do more to bring over the Hispanic vote than probably anyone else in contention, she's been out front on immigration reform since her days as a US Attorney. The downside for Napolitano is that she isn't as attractive and she's probably pretty high up on the Clinton's enemies list. If the Clinton's are carrying a grudge they might refuse to get out and campaign for an Obama/Napolitano ticket.

Back to Sebelius...she has a lot going for her. She knows how to campaign and win in Republican strongholds and she's got solid executive experience. Her one big negative is when she said she didn't have National Guard equipment after a tornado last year because it had been sent to Iraq. The national media mostly believed the Bush administration's claim that what Sebelius said wasn't true.

Gravatar I think Sebelius would be fine for an Obama ticket. The Hillary supporters who call this appeasement and threaten to vote McCain if it's any other woman than Hillary are the same ones pushing to have Hillary on the ticket and they'll leave if he picks anyone else whose name isn't hillary clinton anyway. and I bet ya half of them are just angry, they'd get over it. We hear a lot about this alienation of democratic women because the ones that want her on the ticket are the most vocal of all former Hillary supporters.

Gravatar the question is..is thsi abotu the advancement of women...or is thsi abotu the advancment of clinton....if teh y are pissed bacuse another woemn is picked I ahve nop use for them....
