Judges are appointed, and then subject to a yes/no vote every few (IIRC 4) years.
I read this in the local papers (Phila. Inquirer, + Daily News) what a joke this judge is, I would have classed it rape, AND theft of services, but wtf do I know??
I would be surprised if the judge had done otherwise. American courts have always held that a prostitute cannot be raped. If some jurisdictions have evolved beyond that knuckledragging belief, I don't know of them.
For the most part, a prostitute cannot get a cop to even listen to such a complaint.

You may agree or disagree with her profession, but her profession doesn't mean she's not entitled to the same rights and protections that everyone else is. The judge's behaviour is sickening - as is those who call her names to justify their lack of sympathy and humanity
"theft of services"? If she was out on the street selling drugs and they had stole her crack rocks would that be theft too? You can only collect money for legal services. Unless she's working at the bunny ranch it ain't legal and she doesn't have "clean hands". Perhaps she is just pissed off because she didn't get paid and cried rape. Who knows? All I know for sure is that she offered herself as a piece of meat for any perv to sample for a price. What happened was an inevitability.
Some women, and maybe a few men, are probably having to sell their sexual services just to survive in this all-for-the-top-1% economy. She may have HAD to "offer herself as a piece of meat". And BTW, Sue, who made YOU the judge of others?
A prostitute going to the police because she was raped is like a druggy going to the police because his pot was laced with acid. She ultimately bears most of the responsibility of what happened to her. She was selling sex to perverts and got screwed! DUH!
That whole "she may have HAD to" is a bunch of crap. It's more likely that the money was good and it looked easy.
($150/hr + $100 for additional guys) If the guys had the money it wouldn't have been rape.
BTW people, I'm not saying the guy/guys that did this aren't scum. I think they deserve jail. I do not, however, think that the prostitute is a victim.

We all tend to fall for what gets printed in the paper, and when it's as inflamatory as what you've read about Judge Deni, of course the response is outrage.
The press got manipulated into printing bullshit lies by the political opponents of Judge Deni, coincidentally, right before the election.
Here is a short selection of just a few of the lies:
Lie: Judge Deni released the defendant.
Truth: She did NOT release the defendant. He is being held on armed robbery, as presented by the prosecutor, a charge carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 5-10 years.
Lie: Judge Deni reduced the charges against the defendant to 'theft of services.'
Truth: Huh? The charge is armed robbery. 'Theft of services' (?) was not even charged. Saying Judge Deni reduced the defendant's charges to 'theft of services' makes her look ridiculous, doesn't it? (Now, who would want to do such a thing, right before an election?)
Lie: The judge doesn't think prostitutes can be raped, and she doesn't respect them as people.
Truth: This is a scurrilous lie. Judge Deni has been a lifelong advocate for the equal rights of women, and respect for the civil rights of everyone, including prostitutes.
Judge Deni has personally extended her court's service in offering prostitutes who have appeared in her court with opportunities for job training, drug rehabilitation, and other assistance. Judge Deni knows full well that prostitutes can be raped, and these nasty accusations are completely without merit.
Judge Deni is being targeted with a political smear campaign right before the election.
There are other many other lies and misrepresentations suddenly popping up about Judge Deni, and there is no truth to any of them.
Please don't believe everything you read in the paper, or on the blogs either!
I base my opinion on the actual facts, and on knowing Judge Deni, both personally and professionally for more than 30 years.
Judge Deni is an excellent judge who is consistently meticulous in applying the rule of law to ALL of the facts.
She did not do what she is being accused of doing.
Don't believe the lies.
