Gravatar Dropped a little in the can. Keep up the good work. Kick ass and take names whenever needed.

Gravatar Checks should be made payable to...? (If "Group News Blog" has a bank account, that will be a goodness. Otherwise... And thanks.)

Gravatar Yes, make your check payable to:

Group News Blog

Send it to the address listed in the post, or on the right sidebar.

Gravatar Okay, the ham, er, beef got me. Check yer inbox Jesse.

Gravatar Whaddaya mean, no massages?

I suppose you're going to say no to expensing the penthouse and the rentboys, too.

Damn, Jesse. That's just harsh.

Seriously: you know what I've kicked in already for Austin. More later, when I've got it.

Gravatar Donated via Paypal

Had to because the thought of Hubris Sonic, Special forces training and massages had a certain appeal...

and as I can't donate to Obama, the GNB are the next best thing!

Gravatar I'm in the middle of starting a business so I don't have two pennies to give at this time. If I did, I'd be eating breakfast today. : )

However, if my business is successful, I'll have lots extra to help out next time, and I'll be looking to give generously to places like this. It makes so much more sense to give to a place like this then to give to political candidates to buy TV ads. You get so much more bang for your buck helping to put this writing in the world then by putting a crappy ad in an extra market. Donating to places like this is second only to very early investments in very progressive primary candidates in the effect your money would have on changing the fucked up power structures in the world.

I think you guys have earned the rights to ask for $$$. You're writing is all so good. Good luck covering everything. Sorry I cannot help you this time.

Gravatar TomK --

It's really fine.

I mean what I say and I don't mean what I don't say.

If people can't tickle the kitty this time, or just don't wanna, that's fine by us. There were a couple of times I just couldn't make it work. Steve was always fine with it. He'd write back telling me to do what I needed to do...and I did.

We'll get done what we need to get done.

I don't believe in giving a start-up too damn much money. Now I assure you, we don't (have too much money.) *laughs a little hysterically* This is about my 10th start-up or some such. Most failed, a few broke even, two did pretty damn well. That's a GOOD track record and earns me the right to say this and have it count:

Not having much money forces a start-up to get fracking creative, forces them to think, forces them to work for it. At the same time they have to have enough money or all they can think of is the fucking cash-flow (which is a lot of what the last few months have been about.) If we hit our target -- and you'll notice I very carefully have not said what it is (I'm tricky that way) -- then we'll be okay till January. Good Gods willing and the creek don't rise.

You and anyone else who needs to, do what you need to do. It's really okay.

Everyone else, pitch in please even if it's only X where X is that number that stings but you know in your heart you can do this.

Gravatar rain gear and
opera glasses or binos need to be added to our fundraising list

now that the final speech is at Mile High.

Gravatar What I'm saying is, when people skipped a fundraiser at The News Blog there were lots and lots of donors to take up the slack. There aren't here. No kidding. Not for a few years, minimum. We don't have the donor base of TNB. We're not even close. And TNB always had another fundraiser coming up just around the corner, three months later. We don't. Assuming we hit our target, we're going to wait six months. We're still new; we don't believe we've earned the right to fundraise once a quarter.
~~~
wadr, (with all due respect)
1. Fundraise when you *need* to. Go to every 4 months. Every 3.
2. Re $ for Denver. Have your blog honchos on the net -- your homeboys --post your appeal on their websites. Y'all are well respected in the blogosphere. You're in need. Ergo,....
3. Save the "Lord, I am now not worthy" shit for when you next visit a Catholic church and get a Sally Quinn transubtaniation Tim Russert wafer.
I, Wethornet, by the power invested in me, by me, hereby declare y'all worthy.
Gravatar ps. Jesse. Meant to add re photos of Matthew M. and Lance I did Sheryl Crow wrong (*).......how about 2 photos or more of cute wimmin in tomorrow's fundrasing appeal.
It's an "eye candy" thing. Ya know.
~~
* Or Sheryl saw the light and skedaddled........We're a might bit protective of Sheryl here in Mizzourah.
Gravatar wethornet -
I appreciate what you're saying, truly I do. And I don't doubt our all around worthiness. *laughs*
However trust and respect is earned over time. "I respect all your Internet traditions." One of which is, we don't just get to dive in and start bombing people with fundraisers over and over. We work our way up to it. Gradual like.
People are putting the word out for us on the fundraisers as well. A number of respectable blogs have put the arm out for us, and we appreciate them. More will next time, and still more the time after that.
The dubbing of us by you of being worthy however... that is better than all the tea in China. (Well. Maybe. There's a lot of tea in China. Which I could sell. Er... never mind. Nonetheless, the thought itself is appreciated. *smiles* As are you.)
Gravatar I'll be making a donation as soon as I tell you this bit, in appreciation of the beefcake.
This morning my partner caught sight of the screen as I was reading GNB. He was across the room without his glasses, so he couldn't see detail (like the black line down the middle of the photo), but what he saw caught his eye.
"Who's that?" he asked. Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong, I replied. After a pause he asked:
"So why are they holding hands?"
