Gravatar Well, this certainly leaves a bit of a nasty taste, but on the other hand, Iraq is mentioned in headlines above and below the picture, so any attentive reader can't be mistaken about the connection. However, subtle, under-the-radar influencing certainly is more dangerous than obvious, over the top spinning, so you have a point, Sonic. But then, what can be done about this? You think Time will care for some angry readers sending letters?
:-/

Gravatar It isn't even the current Iraqi flag, which simply has the Arabic inscription "Allahu Akhbar" in dark green (no stars).

Gravatar First time I looked at this (before reading what it was linked to) I thought 'Ah, the article must be showing the two Dem primary candidates stances on the Iraq War' -

so I didn't see that connection Dems=Terrorists

but then I'm not American. Nor right wing.

Gravatar This is snark, right?

Gravatar Speaking of flags and imagery, two incidents involving flags gave early warning signs that the US invasion and occupation would not "win hearts and minds."

First, the US troops drape the US flag over Saddam's statue before toppling it. This was seen as a big insult and widely interpreted as the US attempting to lay claim to a sovereign nation.

Second, in 2004 the Coalition Provisional Authority and the puppets in the Iraq Governing Council unveiled a new Iraqi flag that was produced without input from the Iraqis and which was immediately controversial because it had two light blue stripes, much like the Israeli flag. That flag did not last long.

Gravatar Oh, but when Gilly Photoshopped Michael Steele in blackface, that was just WRONG and BAD and UNAMERICAN and DEFAMATORY and stuff. Waaaah, the Rethugs ran and cried to their mommies and their lapdogs at the Washington Post and threatened to SUE him for using their picture without permission (even though I think it was well and away safe as parody--a legit use--they actually kept sending him letters AT HIS HOME and so he backed down for the sake of his family).

Fuck those tools. I hope they all suffer whatever it is that they fear the most, in triplicate.

Gravatar Time hates the Democrats? I doubt it. Sounds like typical hyperventilation on the left.

Gravatar I'm a very long time reader not a visitor. Didn't know what flag it was, didn't see it as terrorist, I know green is the Muslim color, had no reaction.
Just for the record.
Perhaps the premise is strained.

Gravatar Perhaps should add I never ever read "The Page".

Gravatar Steve,

Halperin does. It surprised me that a pro-Hillary site posted an article by that clown.

Gravatar Also, it's Iraq's NEW flag; the one which the Kurds are still refusing to acknowledge as THEIR flag.

Gravatar And; Jen nails it, about their hypocritical shit.

Good on you, Hon! :o)

Gravatar I am about has left-wing as you can get, and this reeks of fake outrage to me.

Gravatar Oh Please....

Why put a transparent flag over them? Why not just put a picture of them up? Give me a break... It's messaging. You would think, in the 21st century we would be educated about messaging in the media.

The article wasnt about the govt. of Iraq. it was about candidate statements, hell it was about surrogates statements about the war. Why the Iraqi flag?

Please, get real. It was a message. You can be sure the "right" got it. It wasnt for you anyway...

Gravatar I have to say that BagNews has been an eye-opener for me, and that, while I don't always get the 'dog whistle image' message at first glance, I think Hubris is right in that, if you're sane (read: not a right wing mind), you're not the dog the whistle is for...
