I'd go for an even more aggressive stance(we really need it):

we started our tour in denver, colorado
i made the first one
but i did not make the second show
i met a girl there who brought about
quite a big change
but i OD'd in denver
damned if i remember her name
i brought it on myself
and i guess that i shouldn't complain
the doc said "son you just can't do no more of that cocaine"
she told me she loved me
and i said that i felt the same
then i OD'd in denver
and i just can't remember
her name
hank jr.
(oddly enough it's the clearest memory i have of denver)

Come visit Boulder and see what a Liberal Reality looks like!
Off the top of my head:
• US mint downtown (that might be good fodder for a story about how our economy works)
• Black American West Museum
• botanical gardens
• Breckenridge Brewpub in Denver is owned Denver's Mayor
• the Mountains
• too many good bars and restaurants downtown to catalogue, Denver does have great Mexican food
• Denver Art Museum
I hope this helps, enjoy your time in Denver!

We have a couple of great restaurants on Sixth St. that we hit every summer on the Take The Kid to Her Scientist Aunt Trip. I'll try to get their names from the Mrs. when she finishes her chapter.
The best brunch in town is Sundays only at the Peruvian place near the state capitol. Bonus is, it's unlikely to be infested with delegates. Problem is, it's the kind of dive where all four of the not-chosen veep candidates may be at a corner table drinking and plotting their revenge.
On that note, the main thing to keep in mind should you imbibe adult beverages is that the altitude affects blood oxygenation. IOW, 5 margaritas at 7000 feet is 35 margaritas. Plan accordingly.

Okay, go to La Loma for mexican food. it's about five minutes' drive north on speer blvd away from the convention center; then turn left at the first light after you pass over I-25. Get the fajitas, although nearly everything there is great.
Best bar: My brother's Bar at 2376 15th Street. Order the Jalapeno cheese burger
Take some time to walk through Denver City Park. It's gorgeous and the view to the west is outstanding.

I'm a sucker for schlock at times - check out Casa Bonita - http://casabonitadenver.com/ - they put on a good show and the Mexican food is not bad (not great either - you really go there for the atmosphere). I never could get enough of their sopaipillas though - damned good.

Denver is a great place.
There's an incredible Botanical Garden.
There's a pretty good aquarium.
The art museum is first rate.
A section of the town downtown is actually barred to vehicle traffic and is an open air mall of sorts.
There's also a pretty good indy bookstore up there, Tattered Cover.
I envy you. It's been a couple of years since I've been there (my brother lives in Golden, not far away).
Denver is a beautiful city.

I haven't been in Denver in several years, but I enjoyed the museum. I found a couple of great necklaces in an antique store -- much less expensive than SF bay area. And there's the UU church in Golden.

I loved Denver. Find that restaurant that serves buffalo steaks, rattlesnake, mountain oysters, etc, all that stuff real mountain men ate. I recall convincing a Texas buddy that the mountain oysters were really a form of westernized Italian meatball. He loved 'em until he learned I was lyin'. Fortunately, I could outrun him (at the time).

IIRC, the name of that restaurant is Buckhorn's.
If you want to learn all about how the geography of Colorado shaped its history and culture, I recomment the History Museum (within walking distance of the convention center).

Hmm, there used to be a Temple of Psychic Youth (until the 1990s, I heard) and it's where Modern Drunkard Magazine is published. That's about all I got.
