My brother's wife and I have worked out an arrangement regarding holiday meals - she makes Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, ham and all the trimmings, Southern style), and I attend to the family's Christmas dinner (prime rib with time-tested accompaniments).

i've tried the various in-a-bag recipes for all sorts of birds.
right after i try them i say, fuck it, i could have used my covered roaster. mo'betta in the roaster.
our tradition usually involves a fresh shot turkey. barring that i go for a heritage breed that has wandered around somebody's yard eatin' bugs and actin' like a bird and stuff.
mo'betta.

What would Steve prefer? I think he liked the deep-fried turkey. I'd like to have that this year.

Mmmmm Tuurkey. Is anyone minding the Food Blog? It was a great resource since any food posts on the News Blog generated a couple hundred recipe variations in the comments.
