Gravatar Unholy Cthulhu ...

I could see why she'd want to ban The Handmaid's Tale, Death of a Salesman, Lord of the Flies and Brave New World, since they give some of the game the GOP's playing away (look, Palin, the cat's out of the bag - we KNOW Reagan was Willy Loman, okay?).

Angelou, L'Engle and Twain have been targets in the past, as have the Rowling books. Even The Hobbit was once considered subversive (I do marvel that she left it out).

Jesus Christ on a swizzle stick, we have GOT to keep this creep the hell out of the White House.

Gravatar A dictionary? Why that particlar edition of that particular dictionary... why not ban all dictionaries and keep us truly and completely ignorant

Gravatar How come only 4 of the 7 Harry Potter books?

Frankly, I have my doubts about this list. From what I have read, Palin never got beyond the "how can we ban books" point to presenting an actual list.

However, I would not be surprised at all should this turn out to be true.

Gravatar Further checking around the net brings out that this list is fake -- for example, the Potter books weren't published yet. But the issue is still important, in that Palin apparently wanted to get books banned and was also willing to fire the librarian if need be. That the banning didn't/may not have happened still does not excuse the original intent to ban books.

And I still don't understand banning a dictionary, most of all that particular one, which is rather dull actually. (However, it is my favorite dictionary.)

Gravatar She's a maverick. A mom on a mission. An out of the box alternative to freedom and independence. She's what our country needs right now. She's willing to stand up for what she thinks our country needs at this moment in time. More up the ass buggery from the Bush Crime Family. You go girl. See you on Oprah after the election. What's next? Elizabeth Hasselback nominated for Secretary of State. She's a maverick. She's willing to stand up to liberal bullies. An out of the box blow job waiting to happen.

Gravatar Vice President for Dummies?

Gravatar Perhaps the dictionary has the "naughty" words in it? You know, words like 'freedom,' 'privacy,' and 'knowledge?'

Gravatar That's a VERY telling list.... omg! I didn't know it was this bad. I wonder if her town also puts placards over magazines like Cosmo and Fitness in the supermarket aisle..... like they're porn mags. They do here. :-(
(And now they've attached them with tiewraps so people, like me, can't remove them... fuckers)

Screw trooper-gate, bookban-gate is far worse. "To Kill A Mockingbird" !?!?!? "The New Teenage Body Book" whaaaat? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worse, much much worse, than I thought. Make sure the librarian gets some protection.

Gravatar Do not expect Sarah Palin being unfit to lead the country to be reported by the MSM. She fits the standard of stupidity that many ignorant Americans find comforting and reassuring. Why report the truth and upset the lumbering asshole paying the bills? Because if you are a millionaire suit who gives a shit as long as the checks from GE, NewsCorp, or Disney or Mr. Redstone do not bounce.

Gravatar How is it that people, mostly the ones the Rethugs claim to represent, have lost their ability to sniff out bullshit from the GOP?

I wonder if you offered them a ten dollar bill for a twenty how many would fall for it?

So, then why are they falling for this pig in a poke of a Veep pick? Does the GOP really think people are too stupid? That they fall for faux patriotism and pushbuttons instead of rational thinking?

Gravatar GOoPer women love Palin because she embodies their lives in neat photo op and sound bite. A pretty set of cans and a moose skinning blade proclaiming that no man like Obama will take her down. Only rednecks with hockey thug mullets have a chance at them cans and ass.

Gravatar The conservatives are making a play across in Canada too:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/am...s.ap/ index.html

An attendee of a mcbush/pailhead rally in WI had a sign:
"Start the Reformation" on the other. ("Like Martin Luther," Moeller said.)" THAT'S why they selected "REFORM" rather than "Change". That's what they're going for here.

(also note in the photo how cindy has adopted sarah's hairdo.)

Sorry to be OT *blush*

Gravatar Ahem. This might explain the dictionary

http://www.visionforum.com/ searc...productid=36547

This gigantic, oversized, heavy book is perhaps second only to the Bible in terms of importance in your home. When Noah Webster first published this book, he understood that whoever defined the words of a culture would capture that culture. So he sought to give the American people a dictionary in which words have meaning in terms of their relationship to Jesus Christ. In fact, this is the only comprehensive dictionary of the English language in print that seeks to communicate a distinctively biblical worldview, even to the point of using Scriptures in the definitions.

Gravatar There is enough meat on the Palin bone to chew, without making shit up. Just the facts, Ma'am.

Gravatar My Friend Flicka? Twelfth Night? What the eff is wrong with those two? My Friend Flicka was a children's tv show for eff's sake!

Gravatar The New Teenage Body Book by Kathy McCoy and Charles Wibbelsman

Schadenfeude overload...

With each passing day something more awful is dug up on this fool.

Palin's record is like some god-awful smell that all the people around her don't notice because they've been around it so long that only gets commented on because someone from outside encounters it.

Gravatar "Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr." WTF???

Well, that just tears it for me.

You see, Mr. Vonnegut saved my life my sophomore year of high school. I read everything he's written; a bunch more than once and more than a few 3 or more times. I know that Slaughterhouse-Five was more than 3.

He also taught me that there is a term for people like Sarah Palin, who would ban some of the worlds greatest literature because it doesn't fit their narrow view of the world. And that term is
..... *
Anyone who has read Mr Vonnegut will know what I mean.

I will always affix this to her name now. Sarah Palin *. Yes, that about sums her up.

Knowledge and understanding just scares the crap outta some folks. I've never understood just why.

Gravatar Unfortunately, as RMKrist points out, the story of that list being Palin's burn-roster is bogus.

It was started on the librarian blog site by a poster named, "Andrew Aucoin". A lot of people on the blog were shocked by the extent and content of the list, and asked for proof that that was Palin's list.

Aucoin has disappeared, but the list has not. It's from a public service report by Adler and Robin books.

Here's their site, with the list, which, again sadly, has nothing to do with Palin.

As one of the posters on the librarian site said, we REALLY need to make sure that we're getting it right when we put up these specific accusations about Palin.

The clip of her informing the bible zombies at her old church in Wasilla that the war in Iraq, was "god's task", and that he wants that natural gas pipeline built, BIG time, will do nicely...

IF Obama and his campaign staff are willing to use it. And they damn well should; it ought to scare the living daylights out of anyone who hasn't surrendered their rational thought processes to faith-based gibberish.

Aucoin might be a clever troller, with an M.B. (Master of Bullshit) from the Karl Rove school of Political Science at dear old How-to-buttfuck-the-truth-crosseyed University.

Gravatar Woops...http://www.adlerbooks.com/banned.html

Gravatar Still tryin'...

http://www.adlerbooks.com/banned.html

Gravatar one reason to doubt the authenticity of the list: how the hell would she know what's in all those books? You don't think she has READ them, do you?

OTOH, I guess there could easily be some such compilation circulated within the fundie world. A little Bible appendix.

Gravatar oops, sorry Tanbark, ya beat me to it.

Gravatar Yes, this isn't her list. However it wouldn't surprise me to find that everything on her list is on this list.

Here's to hoping someone (Ms. Kilkenny? Ms. Baker?) comes forward with the real list.

Gravatar Promoting this list would accomodate someone coming forward with the real one..... tactically speaking. I would love to see the real one, soooo..... Jes sayin' *evil grin*

Gravatar That's there's a list at all is reason for pause.... so let's see the real one.

Gravatar The Caribou Barbie comes off as a pig-ignorant holy-roller. She wanted to ban Huckleberry Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird, Prince of Tides, Catch-22, Of Mice and Men, I Know Why the Caged Birds Sings and a host of other classics...even the friggin' dictionary! The Thuglican Party nominated and embraced a corrupt and stark raving ditzy ding-a-ling as their candidate for Vice President of these United States. If she and the McNasty were to be elected and he suddenly met his timely demise, then we would be in an Instant Dark Age.
Never mind--we already are and have been since December 12,2000 when the Supreme Court named the Unspeakable One as President.

Gravatar Also see;
http://www.ninwiki.com/ Year_Zero...ro_Banned_Media

It looks like a list from NIN's fictional (hopefully to stay so) Year Zero project;

http://www.ninwiki.com/ Timeline_..._Zero_Discovery

Gravatar e; no problemo.

The more, the merrier. But we do need to get it right, or they'll use one wrong accusation to disiss all the right ones.

As Krist says; it's still important. There seems to be no doubt that she was into playing literary Torquemada, and canned the Librarian, or tried to, for not being willing to join the Inquisition.

Gravatar Seeing as this list has been proved to be bogus, it would be nice to see the blog poster note that in an update. Reading through the comments, it seems some people still seem to think it is the truth.

Gravatar THIS is what we need:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/0...&hp& oref=slogin

Frank Rich SKEWERS McBush and Palin. :o)

I mean, he puts them on a spit and turns them as lovingly as some redneck "doin' a pig". :o)

Gravatar Of course this list has been proven to be a fake, but the truth is probably that there was no list in the first place. This is like saying Obama attended a madrahsa.

Gravatar List or no list, I haven't heard anyone seriously question the report that the woman wanted to ban books -- and that is enough for me.

Gravatar Hey, gang, I put it up and said it was not confirmed... BECAUSE i wanted to make the point that she wants to ban books, and the folks who want to--- their lists look just like this one.

We can not have a book ban-er in the white house, near the white house, in the vp office... no no no.

The list though is a more exciting way to get people to pay attention to the fact that she wanted to fire a librarian because she said no to Palin's request for book banning info and authority.

Gravatar Well Charlie Gibson can ask her if she tried to ban books in their upcoming interview.

(I'm throwing up in my mouth already imagining how obsequious Gibson will be to Sarah Barracuda. Grosser than gross.)

Gravatar Twelfth Night (my very favorite Shakespeare play, and the first one I ever saw staged live) involves a whole lot of boys dressed like girls and girls dressed like boys and people being duped to fall in love with people of the same sex. (It does, of course, all work out boy-girl-boy-girl in the end.) To add to the fun, there are several roles that can just as easily be played by male or female actors. It's one of the great gender-benders in English literature.

I can see why the fundies would hate it.

Gravatar Gatoress, you said it was not confirmed. No problem. And yet, with this..... errr THIS, and all the ligitimate items covered and linked in Tanbark's referenced piece by Rich, we on the left have only ONE successful run at a meme that made the msm. That's sad. That was last week's "Sarah ain't Twig's mommy". We don't really know what's true there even now. But, how in hell are going to combat this if we don't get some focused energy going for the VERY ligitimate issues this person brings to the table and is going to make us say grace over?

That's my question. What's the point of all this blog power if NOT to drive the media. I think we need a community organizer... oh wait, he's busy running for President. Pick one, any one of the many, and lets DRIVE it all across the left. Get it front and center in the msm. Shame that the only one that's worked thus far, while has not been proven false, most likely is.

What to do......

TLG - I appreciate what you've done here.

Gravatar The list is fake. Sarah Palin never tried to ban any books. In response to multiple inquiries, the City of Wasilla has now issued a statement which includes a list of the Wasilla Public Library challenged books -- all four of them. All four of the challenges occurred either years before or years after Palin was mayor (1996-2002).

Year of Challenge: Pre-1986
Item Challenged: Angel Dust Blues by Todd Strasser
Result: Creation of "Young Adult" section in library and placement of item in section

Year of Challenge: 1986
Item Challenged: Bumps in the Night by Harvey Allard
Result: Remained on shelf

Year of Challenge: 2005
Item Challenged: America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Steward (sic)
Result: Remained on shelf

Year of Challenge: 2007
Item Challenged: The Abduction by Mette Newth
Result: Remained on shelf

Go to http://www.cityofwasilla.com/ind...x.aspx? page=136 and click on "Banned or Censured Books Response."

Gravatar This is bullshit.
No books were banned. Check out the Anchorage newspaper's article on the events. Firing department heads in a strong-mayor form of government is normal practice. This is especialy true if the department heads in question opposed the new mayor's election by supporting the incumbent mayor.

http://www.adn.com/politics/stor...ory/ 515512.html

No Books were banned.

Gravatar Continuing the lies, I see.

Typical leftists.

Typical haters.

You deserve to lose another presidential election.

O! completes the trifecta!

Gravatar twp, owl, anony - Since you seem to be in the "know" about Palin, I'm wondering if you have ANY documentation that Trig Palin IS indeed Sarah's son? Is there any proof of that claim by her?

Gravatar I did send the link for ABC to many others. Here's one response that I found helpful...

Thanks for your link!
The problem with this question is that by the librarian's own account, Palin didn't ask for specific books to be pulled - she asked the
librarian a rhetorical question of how she'd feel about being requested to remove books - which is terrible, of course, but this questions sets Palin up to look good by replying that she never asked
for particular books to be banned (yet) - which is true, as far as it goes.

I think more productive questions would be 1) whether Palin is supporting (corrrupt Republican) Ted Stevens in his re-election bid,
or
2) whether she'd put the economy of Alaska, which is wholly dependent upon petroleum, before the best interests of America, which
is best served by rapidly getting off of oil.

Gravatar This list is bogus... it's been disproven a zillion times already.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/ p...bannedbooks.asp

Gravatar Lists like this have been published for years by a national librarians' association. Most of these are the usual suspects, with new additions every year.

The state of Texas exerts tremendous influence on national curricula due to its statewide textbook adoption system--the publishers have to keep Texas happy.

BTW, I bet I've TAUGHT at least twice as many of these books as Sarah Palin has READ.

Gravatar have a nice day
