with a big “Callaway Golf” logo on the back of his windbreaker. Golf fan? Duffer? I don't know what he was exactly

Maybe an equipment rep (marketing, etc.). If he was a rep of Callaway, though, I'd have no idea why he'd be at the airport when Woods was finishing making history.

And then we have Exhibit B in the “racist concern troll” camp, Golf Network commentator Kelly Tilghman on Woods dominance and how to curtail it.

Woods considers her a friend, before and after her profoundly stupid statement. There's the old old joke about how you defeat a overwhelmingly superior opponent that proposes mugging them in a back alley, using a high-powered rifle as they emerge from the locker room, etc. Using lynching was way over the line, and she paid her price.

Gravatar woof woof motherfucker, indeed.

Gravatar Yeah...Tiger Woods is a great analogy for them to use. The mixed race guy who broke into the most racist sport(game) in America and went on to dominate it.

That ol' White House country club has had 42 white members. Only one of them was even Catholic. Time for Barack Obama to go in there and become President of the damn club. Look at the Harvard Law Review. It ain't like he hasn't done it before.

All the haters can go cry in their beer like they did when Tiger Woods burst into their crappy "last refuge".

Gravatar I'm assuming that "Sgt." Bellavia is "retired" Sgt. Bellavia, otherwise how the hell does he get off openly campaigning for McCain?

Gravatar If the sacrificial-goat-lovers keep up with these world-class fuckups, Obama may not need to mention McCain by name, in his campaigning.

All he'll need to do is talk about "his opponent" representing that "third term for Bush", and that will be the eight ball in the side pocket. :o)

Gravatar Did we think that the people STILL supporting bush's lunatic's mayhem opera would not be lunatics, themselves? Right down to osterizing the language? :o)

Gravatar At first when I heard Bellavia's comment I got pissed but then I thought if Obama is Tiger that means he will win.

It's not just a statement of alienation I think it's also a subconscious acknowledgement of the fact that Obama is better than these fools could ever hope to be. Just like Eldrick.

All that anger at being not even 2nd rate and getting their asses handed to them time and time again has to manifest itself somehow.

I'm personally looking forward to these idiots heads exploding Scanners style on election night in November.

Gravatar I'm assuming that "Sgt." Bellavia is "retired" Sgt. Bellavia, otherwise how the hell does he get off openly campaigning for McCain?

He is retired. I think he is also a Congressional candidate.

Gravatar That these people openly subscribe to this sort of mouth-breathing mentality doesn't really make me angry anymore. I reject and condemn these attitudes and statements, but knowing what we know about the "27-percenters", how can you really expect anything else from them?

That such a bloc of voters exists in our country and has an old-fashioned-communist-party-like political discipline has a lot to do with why I will be voting for Obama this November. His failure to make a single-payer health-care system part of his platform really frosts me, though. But still. His heart is in the right place far more than John Kerry's ever was.

The thing is, some pretty harsh shit is going to go down in 2009, and I really hope that the clue-challenged American electorate doesn't blame Obama when stuff that's been building up for more than a generation reaches critical mass during his presidency. If they do, we can be sure the mouth-breathers such as Bellavia will be there to harness for themselves the potential political advantage in the situation.

Gravatar Well, the good news for the dullards who support McSame is that Mrs McSame (who finances Mr McSame) is a make-up plastering trollop, with a genital area worthy of note.

Love actually........

Gravatar LoveandLight; at this point, I don't think we need to worry too much about the voters not knowing who knocked up Rosemary, nor will there be much confusion about who's gonna pay the political "child-support" for Rosemary's Baby(s). Especially, the one with the horns and a tail, in Iraq.

Gravatar L&M does it again!!

There are plenty of troops smart enough to pass PLDC and BNOC, and promotion boards, but it doesn't mean they have a full deck -- even on a good day.

So another racist supports mccain? add him to a very looong list. I'm sure this will help mccain when he courts the hispanic, black and asian votes.

shitbag.

Gravatar Spot on, as usual LM. I mourn for the human race most days, some more than others. Stupidity really does burn.

Gravatar The slogan on the banner is Let Them Win.

The 30%ers are not the brightest bunch.

Gravatar If a McCain supporter wants to compare Obama to Tiger Woods, I say let them - his motif is one of total & relentless skill & professionalism, drubbing everyone he plays against, & doing so with an awesome level of class & style. I wonder if the Sgt. has gotten a thank-you note from Obama yet?

I'm just patiently waiting for that golden moment during the Debates - the one where Obama pulls on his chain, nice & hard, & McCain's face goes all splotchy, right before he snaps back "now, listen here, BOY ..." & proceeds not to answer whatever point he's just been shishkabobbed with. At which point everyone present will be too amazed & disgusted to even hear what he's (not) saying. Everything he says after "BOY" will be academic, as he'll have thrown away his last shot at being Grand Poobah of the Executive Branch.

Make it so.

Gravatar I don't think Tiger and Obama is a good comparison. I mean, Tiger has actually accomplished something.

Love your stuff, Lower, just a little sick of the Obama love. Use your considerable talents for all of us.

Gravatar I just wrote a long, very intelligent and perspicaceous letter in re: Tiger v. Obama. It got lost in the cybersphere. I've had too much vodka to repeat my performance, but just know, I appreciate your comments. They would make Steve Gilliard proud. And that's good enough for me.

Viva Tiger! Viva Obama!

Gravatar I believe I have rug burns on my jaw, it dropped so fast when I saw that clip.

And I knew exactly what he meant, in his clumsy, lardheaded way.

John McCain is freakin' clueless.

And I didn't think it was possible... but I got more pissed off at Republicans.

Golf. And Republicans.

Yeah. I can see how that sticks in their throat.

Gravatar I don't think Tiger and Obama is a good comparison. I mean, Tiger has actually accomplished something.

Love your stuff, Lower, just a little sick of the Obama love. Use your considerable talents for all of us.

Apparently you did not watch the Bellavia clip. Clearly, Bellavia was trying to compare McCain with Obama by using the Tiger Woods reference. If you believe that Bellavia meant "You can have your Tiger Woods (aka Hillary Clinton), but we have John McCain", I'd love to hear why you believe that Tiger was a metaphor for Hillary.

LM's entire post addresses the McCain/Obama comparison made by Bellavia.

In fact, if Bellavia is any indication of the prevailing GOP thinking on the presidential race, the Republicans evidently have decided that Hillary won't be the Dem nominee for the general election because she wasn't even mentioned.

Bellavia is running for a congressional seat in Erie County, upstate NY. I'm sure that, in his dreams, he wishes that he could score a victory like Tiger Woods.

I'm reasonably certain that jimbo is trying to say was that he doesn't find Barack Obama impressive enough to be worthy of comparison to Tiger Woods, not that he thinks Bellavia is using Woods as a metaphor for Hillary Clinton.

Gravatar I don't think Tiger and Obama is a good comparison. I mean, Tiger has actually accomplished something.

Obama is a graduate of Columbia, and of Harvard Law School. He was the first African-American to be president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a two term Illinois State Senator. A lecturer in law at the U. of Chicago Law School. He was elected to the US Senate with the biggest landslide in history, having won the Democratic primary in an election where everyone knew that the winner was going to be in the Senate for as long as they wanted. He has a wife, and two beautiful little girls.

If that's not accomplishments, you have standards too high for your own good.

Gravatar Just so long as Obama doesn't end up advertising for Buick.

(Although, now that I think about it, the brand looks a damned sight healthier since Tiger's been shilling for them...)

Hmmm. If the analogy holds, maybe Obama can do for the hapless USA what Tiger did for seriously-hapless Buick.

Stranger things have happened.

Gravatar And then of course he handed the stage over to his man McCain, who smiled his usual stiff, soul-sold smile and embraced his carny-barking “hype” man without thinking for so much as an instant that there might have been something amiss in that introduction.

"Who smiled his usual stiff soul-sold smile"....that has to be the most badass turn of phrase I've read all year. And it has the additional benefit of being exactly fucking right.

Gravatar Whatever tax dollars were paid to this dolt for his "service"...... I want them back.

Its clear that they are doing these things on purpose.... to get the headline. This idjit could have just said "Obama" but no. He had to make it racist. That gets the headline. Mccain's speech is then less important whatever his speech was about. Who even knows or cares..... but it gave all the pundits something to talk about. Not mccain's speech, but this racist asshole. That's the thing with the racist fuckers, they know juuuuust how far to go to claim innocent. It's sick.

Arrrrrrrrgh.

Gravatar Who CARES about McCain, for now?

Where's the pie in the face of the $800,000 the Clinton's took from Columbia, to influence the Columbia Free Trade Agreement, that's being legislated NOW?????

Where's the PIE, in the FACE, of the duplicity and ignominy of the political process, that's a part of MAYBE, saving our nation?

Who CARES about McCain?

Save that shit for after September.

YOU people, self professed progressives, should be hammering the Dem Side Of Life, and yer VACANT! VACANT!

Yer not there. It's like you were looking for hits, like FDL is. Cuz that's what generates the ad dollars on yer site . . . yer absent in the biggest progressive fight for our lives . . .

Yer Absent.

Sigh.

Gravatar I know that Jimbo does not think that Tiger is a metaphor for Hillary.

But he said Love your stuff, Lower, just a little sick of the Obama love. Use your considerable talents for all of us which seems to suggest that LM should have also spoken about other persons besides Obama in this post. Why?

Gravatar And another good post, LM. That's really what being a GOP supporter comes down to these days: sitting in the theater and rooting for Judge Smails ("You'll get nothing, and like it!") or the Duke brothers or Marmalard (Dumbya) and Wormer (Cheney).

Rosali,

Just for background, in other posts, jimbo has basically proven himself a right-wing concern troll. He's not as rabid a racist as the Stormfront guy who shows up here once in a while, but jimbo's praise of Tiger Woods reminds me of Pino in "Do the Right Thing":

"MOOKIE: Sounds funny to me. As much as you say n*gger this and n*gger that, all your favorite people are "n*ggers."

PINO It's different. Magic, Eddie, Prince are not n*ggers, I mean, are not Black. I mean, they're Black but not really Black. They're more than Black. It's different."

You know, that kind of racist. The kind whose greatest fears are being realized by Obama's success thus far, the success of a black man who'd have more substantive and immediate impact on the lives of Americans than other black celebrities who are "safely" tucked away in the world of entertainment and sports (racists aren't known for subtle, long-term thinking).

Normally it would be a tough contest between racism and misogyny for old jimbo, but since he knows that Judge McSmails will have an easier time beating Hillary, he's forced to choose the "b*tch" over the "n*gger." Get ready to see a lot more of this from the right, especially if Hillary's sense of entitlement makes her pull a Lieberman in the general.

Gravatar LM big ben isn't a bull anymore.

ya i got nothing...look mccain is racist, his supporters are recist...they are hard core republicans, of course tehy are racist, kinda gose with the territory

Gravatar I guess they're not even bothering with the GOP "Big Tent" lie anymore. It was empty rhetoric before but at least some of them recognized that they should at least look like they cared about attracting African-Americans, Latinos, and others to the party.

Gravatar Shitkicker is that in the post, I specifically cited that McCain backer's sexist rip on Hillary in November and even linked to the video of it,

The infamous “How do we beat the bitch?” swipe that McCain didn't fucking say boo about.

Why did I include it? Because it indicated a pattern of the McCain supporters and their knuckle-dragging, paranoid ways.

Even though Bellavia cemented his clear addressing Obama with his “Audacity of Hope” coda to the statement.

It's all there, but what can you do?

You just keep writing.

Gravatar LM, YES please keep writing. It has to be said. The pundits were all dancing around this one and it IS what it IS.... racist.

The hillary/bitch comment was out of line but not exactly the same. The use of the word bitch is applied frequently (too frequently for me in the last years) across genders and objects. And, while I have an opinion of her behavior and words that would qualify her as an actual bitch, I think the user in that instance was a little too free throwing that out to mccain. Crass, crude, and deliberatly hateful but given the wholesale acceptability of this word, not sexist. He was prolly a jerry springer deciple. None the less, he was and IS a pig by virtue of being at a john mccain function.

Yes, please keep writing these killer posts, LM

Gravatar I remember watching 21-year-old Tiger tear up the 1997 Masters. One of the TV announcers blurted out that they would have to change the rules. It wouldn’t have been the first time. College basketball banned the dunk in 1967 after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s debut season. (He responded by developing the ‘sky hook’.) Hall of Fame UNC coach Dean Smith used the ‘four corners’ stall offense at the end of games for decades. In 1984 Georgetown’s all-Black team employed the same tactic, making John Thompson Jr. the first African American head coach to win the college men's hoop title. The NCAA adopted the shot clock in 1985.

Gravatar In 1984 Georgetown’s all-Black team employed the same tactic, making John Thompson Jr. the first African American head coach to win the college men's hoop title. The NCAA adopted the shot clock in 1985.

But everyone knew the shot clock was coming into college basketball well before Georgetown's championship. I think the last straw was a UNC-Virginia game where it was something like 10-8 at halftime, and 22-19 at the end of the game.

For a year or so, after Jim Valvano's NC State team won the title based on their strategy of getting back into games by fouling a poor-free-throw-shooting opponent to get them to miss at the line, by allowing the fouled team in the last two minutes the choice of free throws or an inbounds. The coaches hated it, and the rule was soon rescinded.

Not all rule changes are targeted at particular individuals, or groups.

Gravatar Whoops. Should have stated that the NCAA tried to foil the Valvano tactic by changing the rules to allow a choice between free throws and an inbounds.

Gravatar Hey, you scratched my anchor !!!

Great post, LM ...

thanks

Gravatar Obama's greatest blunder so far seems to have been to underestimate the amount of guilty fear borne by (mainly white) Mid-dull Murkins for their (tacit/explicit) participation in the hideous injuries of racism in Murka.

Note to Obama (apologies to Mencken): Nobody ever lost an election by overestimating the guilty fear of whites that Blacks may someday decide to get even for 400 years of systematic abuse.

Gravatar Bellavia was not comparing Tiger to Obama. He was simply making the point his sons will grow up to admire real heroes like John McCain and not sports figures like Tiger Woods. He used Tiger as an example because that is the first name to pop into his head. Yes, he took a jab at Obama at the end of his speech with the "Audacity of Hope" comment, but this was not about race either. Why does everything have to be about race? By the way, David has been through hell and back and does not deserve these attacks. Did you know he is nominated for the Medal of Honor? Read his amazing book "House to House: An Epic Memoir of War"....then tell me what kind of person he is.

Gravatar well karl he a racist whos good at killing people..thansk for stopping by.
