I support Obama because he's smart, competent, correct enough on most issues, and runs the most effective campaign I've seen in decades. His skin color doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me. But I have to admit, seeing racist scumbag pundits like Buchanan (along with certain blog trolls) pissing their pants over the thought of a black man in the Oval Office and struggling (miserably) to be all TV-PC is a sweet bonus.

When they crack and reveal their true faces, it's like watching a real life version of that bathroom scene in "Trading Places" again and again:

Randolph Duke: Now, what are we going to do about taking Winthorpe back and returning Valentine to the ghetto?

Mortimer Duke: I don't want Winthorpe back, after what he's done.

Randolph Duke: You mean, keep Valentine on as managing director?

Mortimer Duke: Do you really believe I would have a n*gger run our family business, Randolph?

[Valentine's eyes widen with outrage]

Randolph Duke: Of course not. Neither would I.

This is gonna be goo-oo-ood.

Gravatar I wrote a letter to MSNBC last week inquiring (in much more tactful language than I'm about to use) as to why they even allow this putrid race pimp to foul the airwaves with his idiotic, dog whistle blatherings and why their cohort of political pundits don't have the guts to gobsmack the dumbfuck when deserved. I'm still waiting for a response...

Gravatar Pat always looks like he's one hair-trigger away from spewing some of the most racist shit on TV.

BTW, have you seen Bay Buchanan lately? Extreme makeover. She's in her 60's and she looks like she's trying to look like a teenager with the bangs and the big hoop earrings.

Gravatar this election coems down to one thing...the same thing that the primary came down to.

can the under 50 crowed step up and toss out the racist loser that the babyboomers gave us?...its taht easy (not all boomers are racist, but of the group that votes, most of them are.)

Gravatar oh and halo scan is havign a load balancing issue...seems on of the DB isn't gettign updated...if you don't see comments, close the window and reopen it.

Gravatar I'm finding F5 works with Firefox, but yeah, the comments ARE playing hide-&-go-seek.

The sweet thing is, these GOP brown-nosers like Buchanan are pundits for a living, & they can't just hide under a rock until mid-November (not that it'd help much, if it turns out the way I want it to) - a Presidential race is the Super Bowl of political coverage. It'd be like being Howard Cosell & turning down a co-MC spot for the Big Game.

In Buchanan's case it's so extreme that he may actually wind up being told to stop by his doctor, he's so obviously apoplectic. If he starts showing up on-air blitzed on tranquilizers, his loose lips could produce some unintentional frankness that'll be VERY entertaining indeed.

It's going to be a loooooong summer & fall for these bastards ... & they're going to truly be worth paying attention to for a change.

Gravatar I am positively ecstatic watching Pat and all the other racist motherfuckers who've run my Party in the ground start gibbering in anger and angst at the prospect of Obama winning the WH. Hell, Obama has my vote - he's the best candidate I've seen.

Fuck McCain.

Gravatar one of the most disgusting things i've been watching over the last couple of decades is the way former nixon underlings have been rehabbed and are being treated as serious political players.

sometimes i think robespierre and danton had the right idea. . .

Gravatar "(not all boomers are racist, but of the group that votes, most of them are.)"

Let's not paint with too broad a brush here, moonglum. The conservative Boomers (including those paragons of "The Movement" who voted for Reagan) are a writeoff, of course. So are the DLC Boomers like McAuliffe and Begala, who might as well be GOPers for all their authoritarianism and hawkishness and "free" market globalism. And any Hillary supporter who's so bitter about losing the primaries that he'd actually vote for McCain in the general is not someone you can reason with.

But most of Hillary's Boomer feminist supporters, while disappointed that the black guy "jumped the line" in front of the woman, are so obsessed with identity politics that they'll keep focusing on the "line" and vote for Obama over the white guy. We need to GOTV for Obama, and that means we'll have to humor well-meaning Boomer Dems, even if their top priorities for a candidate are still stuck in the '60s and '70s.

And remember, there are a lot of reality-based liberal Boomers whose priorities aren't screwed up and who voted for Obama on his merits rather than his skin color. They're probably as tired of the BS Machine their generation created as you and I are, so let's focus our disdain and mockery on the Boomers who truly deserve it.

Gravatar Hmm -- the link at the end of the article said "9 comments" but HaloScan says "No Comments."

HaloScan is still funky? Or a disgruntled Buchanan fan?

Gravatar OTB...how many hillary supporters are left that are not DLC...(i love how soem support hillary and attack the DLC at the same time as if they where not joined at the hip). Anyone that dilusional realy dson't get counted.

Gravatar cherish, i think one of there DB's is down and hte load blancer hasn't been made aware of that fact yet

Gravatar I had an abortive conversation with an elderly Hillary supporter here in IN who is still campaigning and seriously discussing a national "girl-cott" of the GE if Hillary isn't handed the VP job.

I was nice, I let her go on and was saved by noticing that I had missed my stop and had to negotiate with the bus driver.

I mean, it's sad, it's exactly what happens when the Kids grow up and make their own decisions - and then have the gall to actually do what the brave pioneering parents have encouraged them to do all this time.

People are deserting Hillary because of her voting record and her campaign actions, not because of her gender. People are voting for Obama because he is telling the truth and standing up to the Republican machine in ways Hillary would never -- his skin color is not an issue.

How DARE we actually make our decisions by the content of their character!

Gravatar Not to worry, gang. I think most of the supers are already IN Obama's tote column; it's just that they're not formally coming out, out of respect for (and fear of) Hillary and the Coronators.

It may even be that Obama and the DNC are okay with this, themselves, as a bit of glue to hold the party together, in the general.

But, my 2c; I'm about out of glue. Any more RoveShit, and I would be willing to see Obama and the dem honchos go after her with both barrels. I mean, full-bore read her ass out of the party. I won't happen, I reckon, but Obama is at the point where his conciliation should be politically backed up with a good dollop of Tony Soprano.

The Clinton dynasty has fallen on it's face. If they want help getting up, then we need to hear "pretty please", loud and clear.

As far as rewarding her with a campaign-debt bailout, or the veep slot goes, I think not.

She made her triangulating bed; let her sleep in it.

There IS one ultimate treachery, which has not been much talked of. Despite her recent pledges of support for the nominee, I'm paranoid enough to have some niggling fears about her trying the Ross Perot route.

I mean, she's clearly willing to drag the party to the right, in this election where the advantages and the votes, more than in any election in memory, call for a real progressive platform and direction for the party. Are she and her supporters bitter enough and crazy enough to start flirting with a third-party run? Would she use the threat of that clumsy, unconscionable, blackmail, as leverage on the party?

It's a fair question.

Gravatar "Are she and her supporters bitter enough and crazy enough to start flirting with a third-party run? Would she use the threat of that clumsy, unconscionable, blackmail, as leverage on the party?"

I don't think so, because if she didn't outright win (and she wouldn't, barring extreme weirdness), she'd be finished as a politician--she'd probably get primaried out of the Senate in 2012 if she didn't retire. I think she and Bill are more likely to try and sabotage Obama, not so much with a view towards 2012 (I don't think she has a prayer either way--a lot of her early support from this year wouldn't be there--though denial could stop her from realizing it), but just out of sheer spite, for Obama having the temerity to take what she seems to think is rightfully hers, by dint of, well, I'm not sure exactly what.

I have a feeling that her continued running is a combination of entitlement/ego ("It's my turn, and besides, my triangulating self is by far the best presidential candidate ever!") plus denial; plus a healthy dollop of needing to at least give some powerful and shady financial backers the impression that she's doing everything she can to seize (yes, seize) the presidency, so she can pay them back for their support; and add in a definite need for the Clintons to recoup their 11 or so million bucks that they put into the campaign.

Gravatar Let me add to the third party run question: she'd be relegated to low ranking slots on really boring committees if she tried that (assuming the Democrats would allow her to caucus with them at all)--I don't think Harry Reid wants two Liebermans to deal with.

Gravatar Someone really needs to set up a pool for which anchor will finally cross the line and get fired. Bonus points for date, circumstance, and particular phrasing of the unfortunate comment

Gravatar I think the idea of not having a member of the power base that has controlled the US since its founding, at least when it comes to the superficial measure like skin color, freaks Pat Buchanan out in a very fundamental way. It freaks out his worldview. In fact, I think the fact that Obama's mom was white and his dad was a Kenyan freaks him out even more than if Obama was an African-American with family roots going back to slavery(perhaps because Buchanan would think that they couldnt win).

The racist view that Pat subscribes to(and its not only Pat) is that countries not under "white rule" go to hell. I wish Chris Matthews would ask Pat about the end of apartheid in South Africa sometime, and I would guess that there would be a tirade to end all tirades.

Gravatar That's GOT to be your bestest post evah! Just wow.

Amazingly, I think chris mathews must be actually listening to his children a bit because since the smackdown of mcauliff and now letting buchanan hang himself here, I must say there's been some (SOME) changes in his ways. We'll see how that pans out after sweeps.

buchanan, on more than one occasion, had made ME want to come throught the tube and just throttle him. Scarboro too. Tucker too. Just hit the streets for these fucks. Or better yet, lay 'um down and stack 'um high for the ramp we need to get OUT of this unholy RUT they've had us spinning our wheels in for years. There should be peeeleeeeeenty of them to errrr.... repurpose like that.

And I hope we hear more from Dick Morris. Yes... .yes.... please let THAT be your battle cry "republicans are racists" and watch the big "Oh, shit, they're on to us" muttering whilst they vote in their best interest/cover... FOR Obama. That'd leave mccain with about ..... say, 27% of the vote. Yes, please let Dick Morris be mccain's main surrogate. oh, pleeeeease.

They are really full on melting down now and its a wonder to behold. Scared shitless they are. They don't get their easy cake walk "close" election running their terms, their rules, their talking points. Their "girl" is done and its just freaking them OUT. And now what? The know they can't talk on the issues..... and win. They can't trot out big dogs dick for one more turn around the arena. And now, what do they got? Why, they've got Dick Morris!

This smackdown thing is spreading. Last night on LK, jesse ventura and vanderhovel (sorry forgot her name) from The Nation (i think) did a big smackdown on Michael Reagan. Nice job.

Gravatar I just like Obama's "Dignity Politics"..... its inspiring.

And what Cherish said.

Its time.

Gravatar I love the way that suddenly everybody (old and conservative) wants "Change" -- what are they all panhandlers now?

Japan's "youthful" LDP (median age=115) is a case in point...

Gravatar Almost forgot. Um, "Jiffy Pop?"

Gravatar How do people actually watch that shit? 3 simultaneous programs all blasting bullshit at the same volume. No wonder so many people need sleep aids.

Step one to a better US - Turn off the TV

Gravatar The Elephascist Party has governed in such an obviously incompetent and immoral fashion that the Democratic Presidential nominee will be a shoo-in.

I fondly remember the landslide victories of McGovern in 1972, Dukakis in 1988, and Kerry in 2004. Every time, the GOP had screwed up so badly that the Democrat won handily.

Gravatar So, IBW, you'll be gnawing on mccain's homemade skin-on havalina jerky instead of popcorn then.

Gravatar vafanculo - Here's the trick. You then watch twice as much of a directly opposite channel. HGTV works well. There's no killing, no graphic operations, no yelling, no racism, no sexism, and, pretty much, no reality being represented either. It's a nice counter weight to their blathering.

Gravatar They are hothouse flowers. They have been hogging the space/time continuum for so long they forgot they used to have to be less crazy.

As power has gone to their heads, they have become cavalier about keeping the masks on.

And they don't want to wear them in the first place.

Gravatar "Are she and her supporters bitter enough and crazy enough to start flirting with a third-party run? Would she use the threat of that clumsy, unconscionable, blackmail, as leverage on the party?"

I can point you to the dumbest shit I've read all day. It's from the SoFL paper and they were interviewing FL Hillary supporters. Here's the dumb quote:
Neyda Otero, 47, and her daughter Sara Plana, who turns 18 in July, said they might vote for minor-party candidates.

"As a Cuban, I would never sit out an election," said Otero, of Oakland Park. "But I will not vote for Obama. Not because of the race issue, but because of what the Democratic party has done to Florida and to women. The way the party has treated Hillary is just appalling."

Even in Democrat-dominated South Florida, Obama can't take anything for granted.

Gravatar "Homemade, skin-on, havalina jerky..."

Tonight, I'm gonna wake up at three in the morning (Commander-in-Chief phone call?...anybody?...) laughing about THAT, MJ.

:o)

Gravatar At this point, I reckon McCain is the next Prez [unless he dies or is incapacitated before Inauguration Day], because by now, no matter who the Dems nominate, enough of the other candidate's supporters will be angry enough to refrain from voting for the nominee.

I have begun to think the Democratic Party, as far as Presidential prospects are concerned, would be better off repealing all the "reforms" of the McGovern-era idealists and going back to the "smoke-filled rooms".

"An idealist is a person who, upon noting that a rose smells better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make better soup."--Mencken

Gravatar I reckon the Clintons will be good troupers and stump conscientiously for Obama, keeping their credit good in the Democratic Party.

Then, when McCain crucifies Plastic Jesus like Bush Senior did Dukakis, if not like Nixon did McGovern, in spite of all the GOP crimes and blunders, and Plastic Jesus is discredited, the way will lie clear for Hill in 2012.

Gravatar I reckon the Clintons will be good troupers and stump conscientiously for Obama, keeping their credit good in the Democratic Party.

Oh please let them not do this. Not helpful. Helpful for them to go away. Obama's got it from here. Hillary is losing us this election right now.

Hey, speaking of soup... I hear mccain going to be serving up some of his Fresh Catch Scorpion Soup at his "Sedona" place this weekend. Last man standing is the veep.

Gravatar Ivory Bill:

Skin-on javelina jerky! Eat, eat! :o)

Gravatar Bill, since you see fit to refer to Obama as "plastic Jesus", and since you see fit to refer to John McCain, as just "McCain", I'm going to invite everyone on the Group News Blog to call YOU "AssholeBillTroll"!

:o)

Gravatar Myrtle Hussein June is more charitable than I am:
"Amazingly, I think chris mathews must be actually listening to his children a bit because since the smackdown of mcauliff and now letting buchanan hang himself here, I must say there's been some (SOME) changes in his ways. We'll see how that pans out after sweeps."

I hope my remark doesn't make her think she's losing her grip; she's clearly as tough as ever. But when I came into the thread, what I was going to say was:

Has Tweety been reading polls lately? Like, with intense attention and long experience in interpreting them. And a furrowed brow because he's perceiving, maybe, that his ass is grass if he doesn't change sides FAST.

So, he expertly hassles an idiot spokesbeing who doesn't know what Chamberlain did; and now he takes on Buchanan. Makes you almost like the bastard, and you can't help enjoying it.

Whether his kids are talking some sense into him, or he sees which way the wind is blowing, it's possible we'll see a lot more of this. And either way it looks like a very good sign for November. Matthews is not taking a principled stand on something that he thinks could endanger his ratings and his job security.

Gravatar No, I'm not losing my grip. What you said. Ratings. Job on the line. The Keitho influence.

BUT I fully expect him to hop back on the all hillary all the time bandwagon just the moment there are no other voters left to hear and keep him in check. They'll be off and running again, and hill's counting on that, and we'll be right back to where we were before the pesky little voters screwed up their plans.

but it is somewhat gratifying in this moment

Gravatar Alas, I have been anathematized for questioning the Messiah. How, oh how, will I ever overcome the trauma?

Gravatar "Alas, I have been anathematized for questioning the Messiah. How, oh how, will I ever overcome the trauma?"

I don't think it's blind worship and idealism to observe that Obama is smart, competent, correct enough on most issues, and runs the most effective campaign of the three remaining candidates.

Which of those observations do you find far-fetched, IBW? So far, all I hear is your usual fatalistic cynicism that the GOP is completely unbeatable.

Gravatar "Has Tweety been reading polls lately? Like, with intense attention and long experience in interpreting them. And a furrowed brow because he's perceiving, maybe, that his ass is grass if he doesn't change sides FAST."

I'm sure Tweety and his bosses are reading the polls, but it's not a question of switching sides. Instead, they know that they just can't be as blatant about their GOP ass-licking as they have in the past (the last thing Tweety wants is to be booed by a studio audience at his own event).

The MSM now has all the substance of a high school pep rally, so its not a surprise that its chant remains:

"Lean to the left ... lean to the right ... stand up ... sit down ... fight! fight! fight!"

Gravatar IBW - At this point, I simply don't see what possible pluses Clinton has remaining, even if she was winning the primary numbers at this point.

In order to get where she is she has:

- Publicly denigrated her primary opponent in favour of the opponent in the general
- Eschewed the 50-state strategy (the future of the Democratic Party if there is to be one) in favour of the same tired old DLC strategists' ideas
- Cosied up to Murdoch and Scaife, the two men who've done more to disrupt your body politic in the last 20 years than anyone

among other things.

The support she has seems to be largely drawn from women who believe it's time for a female President regardless of whether she's the best person for the job, people who think that by putting a Clinton back in the White House they'd get the prosperity of the mid-late '90s back (ain't going to happen, the money for that boom ended up right back with the VCs and they've since bought yachts with it) and various others with different ideas that seem to fall into camps nonetheless (America won't vote for a black man as President, we need a policy wonk, not a visionary etc.)

I think there's good grounds for refuting almost every aspect of her support based on that alone. I'd like to know why you're so convinced that people are making a mistake by not selecting her.

Gravatar Bill, it's not only that you'll have to deal with being anathematized for your (growing) insults to Obama, and for going into Chicken Little mode, as he prepares to take the democratic nomination for president; you're also going to have to deal with Obama's kicking John McCain and the republican's asses so hard that they'll have to take off their shirts to shit. :o)

Gravatar Dial it back a bit people.

Personal insults (unless directed at a disruptive troll) over disagreements in policy ain't cool. Especially long-timer vs. long-timer. Zings, snark? Cool. Mother-fucking and Assholing? 'Fraid not.

And that said, advocacy of one Dem candidate over another is fine, but spiteful intra-party disses one second while letting the odious, evil war-mongering McCain off the hook the next for axe-grinding purposes is just flat-out bullshit. I don't give a flying fuck which of the two—Obama or Clinton—it is that goes up against McCain, once we've got one of 'em going up against him, continuing bitchy primary-time sniping is gonna get clowned hard—by me, and anyone who has a common-sensical bone in his or her body.

Grow up, everyone.
