Gravatar "Obama. Clinton. Whatever.
McCain is toast."

Yup, this shouldn't be forgotten during the nasty catfighting these days. Both Dem candidates are far superior to the warmongering dinosaur McCain. Let's toast him in the general election!

Gravatar No matter how great our despair in our candidate may be this year, the other side's has GOT to be worse.

Anybody here recall Micheal Ramirez, the nutbar who did the "dolchstoss" cartoon last year? I know Sara Robinson does, because her fellow blogger Dave Neiwert wrote up this asshole recently.

Well, Ramirez isn't too happy about this year's Republican nominee in all but name, John McCain.

How unhappy?

This unhappy.

Gravatar “There isn't any finer folks living than a Republican that votes the Democratic ticket.”

Will Rogers (American entertainer, 1879-1935)

Gravatar Uh, before we plan the victory party, shouldn't we remember a few things like:

The proven Elephascist mastery of voter suppression and vote fraud? If Obama is nominated, Diebold and friends could switch votes from Obama to McCain [or whomever] and blame racism, or do the same with HRC and blame sexism.

The character assassins of the Elephascist party and the Corporate Holodeck Media? If Obama wins the nomination, they'll go to work on him the way they've worked on Hillary and Bill ever since Bill first ran for governor. How long will Obama's charisma survive a full assault from the Reich-wing smear artillery?

The possibility [remote, I hope] that Darth Cheney just might grow crazy enough to try the Full Metal Pinochet Gambit? [h/t Driftglass] I hope our armed forces are full of real patriots who would tell Darth to go directly to Hell, do not pass "Go", do not collect $200.

Above all, the proven, heartbreaking, infuriating STUPIDITY of the USAmerican public, and of my fellow white males in particular?

To quote the only good line in an otherwise putrid episode of Trek TOS, "I've found that evil usually wins unless good is very, very careful."

I still think I'll save my hopes for the next world. This one is not, and never has been, fertile ground for them.

Gravatar Ivory do you think that HRC will be able to deal better with the vast right wing conspiracy than BHO?

Gravatar As long as the democrats don't do what happened during the Lamont/Lieberman kampf where Lamont put all his energy into the primary fight and none into the general election (yes I know it was a three way race & the dems were split) the democrats cold take the presidency, congress, as well as state houses.

However none of this will happen if they take the republicans for granted. Even in 2006 their wins were not as large as would be expected from the traditional congressional switch over during a president's second term

Gravatar No, the Dems should play to give the GOP a world class beat-down. Not worry that, "Gee, we might lose," But realize they have the momentum and need to get the voters to the polls in jaw-droppingly LARGE numbers, so even if the vote is rigged in some areas, the totals are so overwhelming they still win.

And yes, a beat down. Who EVER is the nominee is for the dems needs to have the world's biggest coat-tails, and then need to work like hell for that to happen.

The dems have the opportunity to pound the GOP like it hasn't been pounded since 1932--this is BIGGER than 1964, much, much bigger.

I just hope every Dem sees the opportunity and then ACTS on it.

Gravatar assume the game is rigged, assume that voter supression will happen, that hear and there debloid will miss a vote or 100...show up in such numbers that it dosnt' matter.

all the mroe reason that you need a charismatic leader this year, you need to get to voters that would have never voted in a normal election...thsi can't be a normal election, we are closeing in on the dominist movment EOL they are hemroging youth and gettign exposed to the general public every where...this is their last desperate graspe at the brass ring and they will do what ever it takes. and if they win...well things get ugly.

this is also all the mreo reason we need to not let hillary take the dem nomination, she is in bed with the dommies (she is a member of two cell churches with strong dominist ties via the end times group the felloship, she has also shown int he recent past ties to the moonies. evne if she isn't "one of them" they have her sympathetic ear...hell she has pushed some of there agenda in congress via her attackes on secular entertainment).

with Mccain gettign hammered by his dommie base and hillary at least sympathetic to their cause we have only one chocie going that dosn't extend their grip on power.

Gravatar I'm with Ivory Bill: It's a little premature to be celebrating, no?

Yes, McStain is pathetic, and on his own "merits" (if you can call them that) he'd be crushed...in any fair election. In normal times.

But these are not normal times. Are they? And when did we last see a fair election?

All that's necessary for the Rethugs to "win" again - in the same way they "won" the last two times - is for them to once more steal the election in the light of open day, and for the Democratic "leadership" - as they did on those occasions - to respond by deliberately sitting on their hands and refusing to do a fucking thing.

Think it can't happen again?

Gravatar I fully agreee with John. it will nto eb afair election, if we fallow the same dem paln (only run in safe states and a few targeted "swing" states the dems will lose again

if its the hard core dem voters v the hard core republicnas the dems will lsoe again.

With out a third party run from paul or huck you cannot beat any republican running the DLC stratagy...it just dosnt' work (it onyl worked once and that involved a thrid party assist from the guy with teh ears whose name i currently forget).

if you run a campaign that is about keepign votors away on election day you will lose.

for the dems to win they have to empower teh electorit. they have to get teh votors otu taht had givin up on politics (because there was no point, our choice was allways republican or republican lite)

chamge can be scarry, but we have to make a change to start takeign this country back.

Gravatar hillary didn't bother to vote on teh FISA admendments today...didn't bother (Obama voted correcly, Mccain at least voted). her yellow dog cohorts voted with teh republicans.

soem one again tell me how she is a liberal...how she isn't jsut a slightly slower travler dow nthe neocon path....remind me how someone who can't bother to vote on FISA (and whose self chosen allies in the party vote wrong) deservs any of our votes.

how exactly dose that work.

we where in three votes of one of the poision pill admendments...at least tehre is some sanity in the house. we need better democratic senetors, the DLC crap has to coem ot an end NOW.

Gravatar Brat I agree with you that the conservatives deserve a massive beat down. as long as the democrats are not complacent they should be able to inflict a decisive defeat on them that will hopefully last at least ten years.

Gravatar Well, bless his heart.......
