Mark 'em down for one T'Dub - they're still a long way from a full spine.

Let's cross our fingers and keep an eye on them.
I do think the smartest thing they could do is drag Pissypants in front of the cameras for a temper tamtrum whenever possible.

I read that procedurally, the way this was done will make it harder for Senate Rethugs to delay it. Good. Let's have the "up-or-down" vote they and the pResident keep clamoring for, and see who votes it down.
Yes, maybe the Congressional Dems don't have a full spine yet, but they could be learning the ways of the fox.

Of course, even if it passed, and the Simpleton decided he couldn't veto it, he'd just slap a signing statement on it so he could do what he wanted anyway.

I think the clueless Congress finally realizes that if they keep appeasing the Cheney Administration, the Dems will lose the election. You don't win elections on a strategy whose central component is alienating the living daylights out of the party's base!

Somebody, somewhere, pointed out Harry Reid's boxing experience -- that he likes to wait for an opening and then deliver the punch. Maybe they were right and Give 'em Hell Harry finally figured out a (terribly convoluted and way too damned late) method to whomp the Senate GOP.
Here's hoping this becomes a habit.

Good for the congress!
My 13 yr old son and I spent a sick day at home making political photo art about the FISA retroactive immunity. I think it was the first day they had hearings about this in the senate. Here's what we did: http://www.youthinkleft.com/news...s/?

How does this work procedurally? Does the Senate now vote on this as though it's a new bill or does it go into a conference committee so the immunity-laden senate version can be reconciled with the no-immunity house version?
If it's the latter, it'll be a much smaller group of people we need to focus our efforts on.

I emailed both my Senators and my Representative about this issue. Of course that was relatively mild considering Keith Elison and Amy Klobuchar were going to support the Democratic view no matter what I did. That is one of the joys of voting in progressives, you don't have to pay as much attention to what they are doing than the others. Senator Norm "the Weasel" Coleman was sent a polite email outlining my objections to retroactive immunity and the FISA issue and I received a very polite "fuck you" email back. He stated how he planned to vote and acknowledged it was different that what I wanted him to do... and at least the slime ball knows we are paying attention and what issues he is fucking up on.
Politicians are actually easy to push around... you just have to let them know how many people are paying attention. Disinterested voters means disinterested politicians.

I think the Republicans finally noticed that the telecoms were giving a lot more money this cycle to Democrats than they were to Republicans. Even though the Republicans were willing to give them a "get out of jail free card".
Oh well...it appears now that these lawsuits will go to court and the companies will claim "state secrets" for almost all of the stuff they've done for the government. They will probably win, but not before Bush/Cheney's asses are exposed for the frauds they are.
Room 61A at AT and T in San Francisco. The Verizon circuit going into Quantico, Virginia. These two things should be getting a lot more attention in the future, although I would count on a corporate media blackout on coverage. Better start watching PBS and Democracy Now!

Bush vetoes it all.
This is a Pelosi scam to appeal to us unwashed masses.
All the time she's back door winking at BoyKing, as is The House, and The Senate.
'JUST TRYIN TO MAKE IT LOOK GOOD, George!'
It's much ado doo about nothing.
None of them are risking anything meaningful.
Bush vetoes it, they look good.
FISA passes, with immunity, sooner or later.
And the 1% already has a dozen more Spitzer's of both parties lined up and ready to go with the illegal wiretapping.
Business as usual, comrades.
We have LONG since joined the party apartchik of the former USSR.
Look at what we have to look forward to!
CA as the next Soviet Georgia? *G*

I'm sure my calls to my congressman were not a factor, but my argument was this:
Hi, this is Margot, I'm a constituent of Congressman XYZ. If I get caught with a bong and weed, y'all will go to bat for me, right? Make it retroactively legal?
(laughter) "But...it's illegal!"
My point exactly. So you guys will go to bat for the phone company who is spying on US citizens, but not for me. Do I have that right?
"Hmm. You have a good point."
