It's not just Bush - it's the press. How many more stories do we need on Tim Russert? I was just channel flipping and both CNN and MSNBC were re-running interviews he did. I feel bad for his family, but frankly if the three "news networks" went off the air we'd be better informed as a nation.

Group News Whine: the home of the BDS now, BDS then, and BDS for all time.
So tell me, Mr. Overweening Loudness, exactly what President Bush could've done to stop the Iowan flooding, or for that matter make any difference at all in the results of said flooding? Or help out on the scene? Or what great goodness would have resulted in his suspending his European farewell tour and returning home early would have? Would you have liked him then? No, you would invent another reason for a hate-filled rant.
Unlike New Orleans, whose mayor sat on his well-paid-off arse and simply waited (with parking lots full of buses) for outside help and guidance, these good people in midwest helped themselves. I haven't heard any complaints nor has the blame game started cranking (until of course I see you whining here, you the perpetual crybaby whose entire existences is defined by your victimhood status...)
Don't worry so much about the Iowans. Something tells me those people will pick up the pieces and get busy on their own, and look to their neighbors for help (not having to look out for looting) and there won't be nearly as much yowling and snarling as came out of 'Orleans (one of my favorite cities, btw; my brother's wife is of Creole descent).
No whining. Except for the normal background noise from the Democrats...(take a bow, now, Hubbie...)

Well, Mobilized a few extra troops? Emergency directives to Federal agencies to expedite aid for those affected? Some extra resources for rescue? Mobilized the compassion of the American people for flood relief? Leadership shills, the sort of thing he is too weak as a man to exercise and too selfish to contemplate. The same weakness demonstrated with Katrina and 9-11, when he ran and hid for hours while a city flooded and another city's skies filled with ash.
Floods are a national priority. Blaming Ray Nagin for not being able to marshal enough resources-resources he didn't have, only being a mayor because your President is a snot-nosed, weak-ass excuse for a human being let alone a man.

I am seeing the start of teh fallout..most of theose houses need to be bulldozed and cleand due to some very nasty mold...the killer here is that the iowans didn't ahve flood insrance (outside of the flood 500 year plane so they didn't think they needed it) and homeowners dosn't cover flood....
take a leson from this folks...if you live near a river/lake, get flood insurance even if the provider dosn't tell you that you need it. weathers just goign to get worse over the next few years.

Under Federal law regarding the emergency assistance act, the Federal Government doesn't have to wait for state or local government to request assistance - it can act unilaterally.
Why the Feds didn't do this after Katrina remains an unplumbed mystery, in my opinion.
So it's not a matter of BDS or STP or even PDQ or SOB, but of simple competency in this Administration. And always recall that you can delegate authority, but never responsibility.

If you can afford the extra $300-400 average premium per year, then govt flood insurance is a good deal. I am in an active hurricane zone but not on a flood/surge plain and therefore don't need flood insurance.

Hey Serr8ed or whatever you're calling yourself, if you knew anything about ANWR you'd know that even the oil companies don't expect to use that oil to replace what we get from other sources; in fact, I read in a government report (will have to find it) that they plan to sell that fucking oil from ANWR to Japan and the rest of Asia. So, get your facts straight and stop yelling just because you think your dick is bigger. It isn't.
Oh, and bush is an idiot. He's landing on the Queen's lawn, getting ready to take tea, while Americans suffer from all the effects of his presidency.

Ensley: if you live in a huricain zone you need flood insurance...even flooding from the rain will count as flood damage.
you also want ot make sure you have the flood/sump rider (mabey $5 extra a month..probably less) yo agent probably forgot to mention it...but with out this add on if your sump pump dies or the swear backs up your hosed.

Thanks for the comments, moonglum. I live at 125' above sea level (and there isn't any other land more than a few feet higher than mine within miles), it is extremely unlikely that I will get flooded out by a storm surge (or rain for that matter). By the time a hurricane storm surge reaches 125'+, there will be no more Florida left at all, and probably not much left in southern Alabama, MS, LA or east TX either. We don't have many basements here so no need for a sump pump. My homeowers policy covers broken pipes, and my hurricane policy covers water damage from windstorm roof or wall breaches which would let water into the interior.
Flood insurance is not for everybody, and I expect since I am in Florida that it would be at least twice the price here as the 'average' anyhow. But I do recommend homeowners in potentially flood prone areas definitely get it, even if there hasn't been a flood in recent history.
My sympathies to the folks in the Midwest. I wish I was closer to go help them as so many people nationwide came here to help us after three hurricanes in a 10-month period a few years ago

hmmmmm... serr8d... so your primary issue is that the Iowans don't have to worry about looting, because, I guess they're hard working white folk.
And they don't need no stinking guvmint to take their money away from them and waste it on guvmint fat/pork projects like what the Army Corps of Engineers do on the nation's waterways - all navigable waterways (up to 2-3 ft depth, I believe) falling under federal jurisdiction.
You know, private business can take care of this better, because the market decides flood level stages.
And butterfly wings decide the price of gas.
And the pixies dancing in your head pass messages to the NSA about your neighbors.
Asshat.

Yawn. The people of New Orleans actually helped each other but that inconvenient reality plays havoc with the pathetic racist dribblings of the troll. As for the buses, they would have had to travel quite far as 13 people in Hattiesburg, Mississippi were killed by Katrina's winds. A friend 40 miles north of New Orleans barely survived 110 mile an hour winds. She says the only thing that saved the house they were sheltering in was the fence which protected the house from flying debries.

I thank god every day I am not as stupid as you!
BTW
as you can tell from my name i am not from the good old US of A, so here goes.
GWB is the worst president you have had in history in regards to the rest of the world, we cringe for our American friends every day for the last 7.5 years. tell me what and when this fuck up of a human being has ever done anything that didn't help him or his buddies.
I am paying for his and your folly everyday through higher food and oil prices, your dick head in chief is has presided over the END of the USA as a super power. He has Broken your country and it will be a major regional power with an ever shrinking sphere of influence (Hugo is laughing right now).
He has made the world eat a shit sandwich of fucked economies because he wanted a war to call his own, he has done irrevocable damage to brand America, and the three of you that still support him are too retarded to figure out when to stop backing a fucking waste of good oxygen.

Andy, our foreign friends are one of the reasons we Americans are so fucking embarrassed with that numbnuts. We elected him and got what we deserved... but you folks didn't do anything to deserve what he has done to the world.
It used to be even when being called imperialist American assholes there was always a little warmth and friendliness underneath. I've been "harassed" by Canadians, Aussies, Brits, Scots and Japanese for my not Ugly but certainly prideful Americanism. Foreigners often seem to think of us as big, friendly if homicidal children. They mostly felt we were redeemable with a little education and sophistication plus they liked our junk food and movies.
I am not happy to see the whole world look at that guy and see a symbol of my beautiful country. We promise to try and be better in the future.

Are those idiots still going on about those fucking buses? Listen carefully, you dull knife. The city did not own those buses. They were school buses, which means they were owned by the school district, and Nagin had no control over them. What was he supposed to do, commandeer them at gunpoint? Mayors generally don't have that authority.

That's "President Bush" to you leftist boors.
Just look at yourselves. This place is a hate-filled cesspool. Every answer to every concern is a continuous whine about why someone in Government wasn't there in time to wipe someone's stinkin' asses or guide someone through their pathetic lives from cradle to grave.
No wonder this nation is in such awful shape. There's few if any who will get up and say "I can!" and actually do something for themselves or their neighbors; instead, the liberal mantra is "Can you do for me? And while you're at it, tax the rich some more!"
Pathetic.
And, Overweening Loudness, I don't guess you're racist after all, you're simply prejudiced. According the the MSM, racism is prejudice in action, and 'cracker' doesn't quite make the racist cut.
Now, you can possibly earn a 'hate crime'; but to do that you would have to use that rebar on my whitey cracker ass because you hate me not on general principles but specifically because of my race.
But, that won't happen.
You continue your 'leadership role' here. You're doing a splendid job; just look at the kindness and generosity of your 'flock'.
