And then I get an e-mail from Jesse saying that you're back. Well, dayum. Made my day. My week, maybe even.
Looks like a good crew. It should come as a shock to no one that we'd need at least three good men to haul the same hod Steve did all on his lonesome.
We going to need everyones help to haul that load.

I've been a regular at Steve's blog for quite a few years. Would comment now and then; drop Steve an article idea occasionally. I'd check the site out several times a day.
Steve died the same week as my mother; that was a very bad week.
I plan to make this site a daily stop.

Hi, guys. Greetings from Canada. I visit several blogs per day, and I always enjoyed the gang posting at Steve's comments section more than any of the others. Y'all reminded me of the regulars at Michael Moore's late, lamented forum, still the best group of people I've come across online.
Good to see the 3 of you carrying on Steve's noble work.
I'm so glad that you folk are doing this. I've missed not just Steve, but all the wonderful commenting. This is very encouraging for those of us out in the hinterlands who never knew we would so miss someone we've never met.

You were as right as a snake. The Brits HAVE pulled out 1600 troops, and are now at about 5500.
All of them hunkered down around the Basra Airport. (Wise choice, I'd say...)
And boy, was that quietly done.

According to the Guardian, they make a couple of supply runs a week into Basra, to the Basra Palace; their last "outpost".
But they're turning it over to the "Iraqi Army" any day now, and will then have all of their troops behind the wire, at the airport.
Sounds like a plan, to me.
And, I'm sure when THEY go, the militias will be preparing a warm welcome for the american replacements which HAVE to move in, to protect that Kuwait-to-Baghdad highway.

I've missed you all so much.
I don't know if I happened to see any of you at Steve's wake (Mrs. Robinson???).
Sorry I wasn't around much during Steve's illness -- as a matter of fact I had my own -- and then at the end of May (about the 24th) when I was just getting back into the swing of things I saw a NY Times story about one of the cops who shot Amadou Diallo -- and I thought, I HAVE to see if Steve is thinking the same thing I am -- and that's when I learned of his illness, and the bad turn he had taken. Damn.
Thank you all for creating this site -- I'm really impressed, and happy about it.
Well screw me a hundred times for being late to the party. It seems teh gang's back, and I for one am feeling much better off for it. As soon as I get a regular 'net connection again, this is _SO_ going in my bookmarks. In honor of Mr. Gilliard, indeed, we do Fight On.
