Gravatar Let me be the first to give you a hug as big as the universe, and a smile as big as the world. Okay, and a little bitty tear, too. Many Blessings.

Now Steve won't have to "kick your asses" :D :D Rest in peace Steve, The fellers are on it! Thank you.

Onward!

Gravatar Is..is... it okay to cheer now? yes? Yayyy!! the tears are there, but smiles and much, much love to y'all for being fighting liberals in word and deed.

Thank you guys. Thank you Gilly. and love to the whole Gilly crew, incl. the family and our Jen.

Gravatar Long time lurker at The News Blog.

And now ... a lurker --- someday to be a long time lurker --- at The Group News Blog.

Glad to see ya!

Gravatar Gentlemen, let me say what an honor it is going to be to read your musings on a regular basis in here.

Gilly, they got yer back, hoss . . . they got it GOOD, too.

You guys are alright, thanks for doing what you do. Let's hope we can save our republic, one post at a time . .

Larue In Sacto, Wishin It Were Santa Cruz
(or anywhere with fog, sun and surf)

Gravatar Terri, and Larue! Welcome aboard. You too, lurker.

There are free beanbag chairs in the basement rec room. You got dibs!

Gravatar I was just hanging around this weekend, realizing that it had already been a nearly a month since we lost Steve and I was already missing this gang way more than I'd even expected to.

And then I get an e-mail from Jesse saying that you're back. Well, dayum. Made my day. My week, maybe even.

Looks like a good crew. It should come as a shock to no one that we'd need at least three good men to haul the same hod Steve did all on his lonesome.

Gravatar We going to need everyones help to haul that load.

Gravatar The king is dead.

LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!

Gravatar It's Sara!

*waves to Sara*

And DrBopper...

The gang is starting to come home. *sighs*

Gravatar I've already bookmarked it.

Gravatar word spread: http://www.dailykos.com/story/20...7/2/92231/ 67559

Gravatar I was always a lurker on NB; but in honor of Our Man, I am taking off the mask. I might actually make a comment or two, if I can get my courage up.

Gravatar I'm so glad you guys (Hubris, Doc, and LM) are doing this! Welcome, and thanks!!!

Oh, and FUCK the FUCKING YANKEES!!!

(Did anyone notice that the Mets' recent skid and the Yanks' recent surge coincided with Steve's death, BTW? Even the baseball gods were weeping.)

Gravatar Gentlemen it is an honor to read your new blog. You are providing a fine tribute to Steve and Jen's pioneering work, and honoring Steve's memory in the best way possible. I look forward to enjoying the conversation, and to fighting on!

Gravatar My fingers are smiling so much as I write this it may be illegible with typos - they can't control themselves at the WONDERFUL NEWS of the launch of The Group News Blog.

I know Steve is chuckling in appreciation and anticipation wherever he may be. With the rip-roaring, incisive prose and musings of LM, Hubris and Doc Wendel on tap, he'll be in high heaven!

Thanks, News Blog irregulars and newcomers alike, for making it happen.

Let us know if you need help in any way, and let me know if you fancy a food post now and then.

All the best from South Florida!

Gravatar Fight on! Gilly lives!

Is Jen going to be contributing?

Gravatar I've been checking the news blog daily or so to see where to go next - just found out on Daily Kos. This is good news.

Be seeing you. Lots.

Gravatar I've been a regular at Steve's blog for quite a few years. Would comment now and then; drop Steve an article idea occasionally. I'd check the site out several times a day.

Steve died the same week as my mother; that was a very bad week.

I plan to make this site a daily stop.

Best of luck. It's a great memorial for Steve.

Gravatar Hi, guys. Greetings from Canada. I visit several blogs per day, and I always enjoyed the gang posting at Steve's comments section more than any of the others. Y'all reminded me of the regulars at Michael Moore's late, lamented forum, still the best group of people I've come across online.

Good to see the 3 of you carrying on Steve's noble work.

Gravatar I'm so glad that you folk are doing this. I've missed not just Steve, but all the wonderful commenting. This is very encouraging for those of us out in the hinterlands who never knew we would so miss someone we've never met.

Ya'll are picking up the standard. And the blog's look is wonderful. Love the header.

Gravatar I hope you'll keep a seat warm in case Jen decides to start blogging again. It's the least you (or do I mean we?) can do for her.

Gravatar Nice to see this blog up and running. I miss Steve, as we all do. I hope this blog may help to take up some of the slack.

I'll be back to bug you when the gigantic turkey farm that is DHS, and the even more gigantic No Man's Land that is the 21'st Century Internet, come into focus.

Gravatar Good to be home. I was thinking about you guys yesterday and hoping something like this would happen.

Was there ever a memorial thread or site for Steve?

Now, let's get back to planting our steel toes ankle-deep in the asses of those who so richly deserve it.

Gravatar Yippie! Thank you all for keeping the New Blog spirit alive.

Gravatar Glad to see the spirit being kept alive. Perhaps I'll be a little less lurker and a little more active on the new site than the former (mayherestinpeace). Good luck to the three of you.

Gravatar Say, now would be a good time to ask a question that was bothing me during the long illness at the News Blog when these good folks and so many others were chipping in good content to keep the site alive...

Did Hubris Sonic used to be Sonic Hubris at one point in time or is my memory playing tricks on me again?

thanks!

Gravatar Sheeittt! Let's get to it...

Bollox! You there?

You were as right as a snake. The Brits HAVE pulled out 1600 troops, and are now at about 5500.

All of them hunkered down around the Basra Airport. (Wise choice, I'd say...)

And boy, was that quietly done.

Blair's last gift to bush.

According to the Guardian, they make a couple of supply runs a week into Basra, to the Basra Palace; their last "outpost".

But they're turning it over to the "Iraqi Army" any day now, and will then have all of their troops behind the wire, at the airport.

Sounds like a plan, to me.

And, I'm sure when THEY go, the militias will be preparing a warm welcome for the american replacements which HAVE to move in, to protect that Kuwait-to-Baghdad highway.

Gravatar Yay!!!!

Gravatar Jen is taking a well-deserved break from blogging, however she is always welcome to put up a post here.

The graphic was made by our own LowerManhattanite. The nose-cone on the UH-130 Spectre was done by Driftglass.

We'll have more to say about the graphic in a post sometime later this month -- probably on July 4th. *smiles*

Gravatar I miss the News Blog and Gilly but seeing this up and running helps. Best of luck, you're off to a great start!

Gravatar Good luck, you guys, and welcome back!

Much love.

Gravatar Thanks, folks. It's good to see y'all carrying on for Steve.

Gravatar Hi everyone.

Myrtle June -- Thanks for being the first person to find us, weeks ago when we were still testing, and not telling anyone. You're so great.

Terri mon cheri -- I love you SO much. For always picking me up when I need someone to pick me up. And for making sure this got off the ground. And for countless other reasons.

Sara Robinson -- My coffee buddy to be, and one of the best damn writers in journalism anywhere. Also, soon to be on our Masthead. Shhh. It's a secret.

DrBopperThp -- who stood bravely by Jen all through March, April, and May. Thank you so much. You're a real mench.

murfmom -- I LOVE food posts. Yum. Send them to our Admin address please (available on the CONTACT page.)

weasel -- I don't know.

Tanbark -- Sheeitt. Let's get to it. Damn straight. Good to see you.

Ivory Bill Woodpecker -- It's wonderful to see you're here. Place wouldn't be the same without you.

Gravatar Seitan Worshiper --

Ah... How wonderful to see you.

We've never talked, never even exchanged an email, so I'm going to thank you in public.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you did in those last hard, roller-coaster months. I know -- I know -- how much it takes to produce post after post, with the clock tick-ticking away.

There comes a point where it isn't being done anymore because it's for the community or even for Steve. It's because one has a sense of duty to something larger than oneself and to fail to carry out that duty would be to fail oneself.

For carrying out your self-appointed duty over and over again in those hard months, personally and from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Much, much love to you, always.

Gravatar Aw, yeah! Hell yeah! The best way to honor Steve's memory is to keep on dealing out those ass-whuppin's, prove last November wasn't a fluke, keep moving the battleground, give 'em the old rope-a-dope.

Wow!

Gravatar DrBopperThp -- who stood bravely by Jen all through March, April, and May. Thank you so much. You're a real mench.

Thanx Doc, but you still owe me an "s" if you want to finish the complement.

Gravatar Er, that's Mensch. Damn typos.

Gravatar Thanks for doing this. I can smile for the first time in a month knowing the memory is in good hands.

"'Fight on, my men,' Sir Andrew says,
'A little I'm hurt, but yet not slain,
I'll just lie and bleed a while,
and then I'll rise, and fight again'"

Gravatar Jesse! Grazie up the wazoo, for you guys doin' this.

Myrtle June gave me the heads up that we were out amongst 'em, again.

Gotta buy that woman din-din, when I get to Flagstaff.

A good day, to see this happening. :o)

Gravatar Thank god!

Gravatar Sonic, Jesse, LowerManhattanite and Sara... Hi.

Like everyone else, I missed Steve for all these months and was so sad... but I've also missed you guys the last month and wondered how you've been; missed the community of commenters, too. Ghod, I'm glad a spin-off site is up. I was only an occasional commenter at TNB and I'll probably do the same here, but it's good to have the "here".

Gravatar Welcome back.

Nice Spooky, too. Hell of a squadron you've got there, in general.

Gravatar Closure in righteous reverence. Thank you.

Gravatar Thanks Jesse!

I stumbled in quite by accident that night whilst you all were busily framing and decorating. Terri and I and anonymous were just thrilled. Hammers and nails everywhere then! Looks great now, very cozy and comfy indeed. Great job!

Oh.... well your *secret* was safe with me... ok, and Tanbark of course. Ok.... well, and Larue. :D

Thanks Tanbark .... din-din it is!

It really is nice to see so many familiar names here. Hope.

Gravatar scarfiotti | 07.02.07 - 9:16 am |

scarfiotti dear heart, mine goes out to you...heartfelt hugs and healing in your loss...and in all of our losses.

Gravatar Damn, I was hoping something like this would happen.

Thanks, guys.

Gravatar Myrtle:

In my best (worst) W.C. Fields:

"Truffles, m'dear?"

And, we'll have barbecue, AFTER the pig finds them. :o)

I'm sorry; I'm just a little giddy to have you bird-dog this place for me, with Steve's spirit obviously alive and pissing out the third-floor window, on the bushCo parade.

:o)

Gravatar WC Tanbark - Well, I nevah!

You're sucha sweeeetie. Giddy is called for indeed!

Oinks!

Gravatar hooray

i will never get over missing Steve and then i missed you guys too

love from Katherine

Gravatar Much respect to all.

Gravatar Hello, hello what do we have here, When did you guys sneak into the blogosphere, and why did you not send me a personal invite to come read...

FTFY, Steve is proud of you guys.
Now to settle down and read all the posts

Gravatar Wow -- my name and email are already here. Welcome, indeed!

I've missed you all so much.

I don't know if I happened to see any of you at Steve's wake (Mrs. Robinson???).

Sorry I wasn't around much during Steve's illness -- as a matter of fact I had my own -- and then at the end of May (about the 24th) when I was just getting back into the swing of things I saw a NY Times story about one of the cops who shot Amadou Diallo -- and I thought, I HAVE to see if Steve is thinking the same thing I am -- and that's when I learned of his illness, and the bad turn he had taken. Damn.

Thank you all for creating this site -- I'm really impressed, and happy about it.

Gravatar Well screw me a hundred times for being late to the party. It seems teh gang's back, and I for one am feeling much better off for it. As soon as I get a regular 'net connection again, this is _SO_ going in my bookmarks. In honor of Mr. Gilliard, indeed, we do Fight On.

Gravatar Hallelujah! Am damn glad I found you guys again. Long live the spirit of Steve and that indominatable attitude towards what's out there.

Will be visiting (and commenting) often.
