Just found out about your blog.
I started doing one in May(see link above), to support a profoundly bloggish printed on paper family newsletter that I've been doing for about 15 years.

Thanks for the post reminding us to be grateful for our democracy. It's been years since I've been able to get into the Independence Day spirit. I hate firecrackers. Too damn loud and noisy.
But I'm glad you'll be posting on the this new GroupBlog. So welcome and I look forward to reading your point of view.

"These are the foot soldiers who make our whole system work. If you're not doing your own time down in those trenches, you're nowhere near the front lines of the fight."
so well said and so needed! we all need to do our time in the trenches, if you are not yet doing that- please please do...
as a local party organizer in democrats abroad- and a member of the dfa state party organizers I know everyone everyone everyone needs grassroots help! so find a group and jump in there. Even once a month makes a huge difference.

It's wonderful to find you folks, all eminently qualified to carry on for the incomparable Steve (and Jen).

Amen - Molly Ivin's spirit lives on - as does Steve Gilliard's. Thanks for picking up the slack

General Antonio Taguba, who wrote an honest report on Abu Ghraib, thus ending his career.
Thanks for carrying on.

I am so glad to find this blog! I have visited Steve's page daily, hoping there would be a link to some sort of spinoff community--and also just to remind myself of the great times I had reading Steve and his regulars.

I'm ba-ack! =:-0
I was trying to think of someone to add to the list. How about folks such as Justin Raimondo who run important reality-based subversive websites such as antiwar.com?

Oh yeah, and driftglass sent me. Stop looking at me like that, he told me to say that! No, I wouldn't jump in the lake if he told me to. Well, maybe if it were a humid 95-degree day or something like that...

Don't forget Kos, Digby, Bartcop, and Dem Underground-who broke a certain spell the right wing had over a lot of us. The spell was this, echoed from a lot of AM talk show chatter: You are alone in your liberal opinions. Everyone else agrees with Rush and the right wing. Thanks to the blogosphere, millions have found out they are not alone in thinking and feeling the way they do.

Wow.
There's actual Grucci Bros. fireworks in those words.
"So, on this here Fourth...
Let's give a shout-out for our truth-tellers -- to the patriots who aren't afraid to say what needs to be said, even when it might cost them plenty."
That...that is what America is all about. Truth. Courage. Sacrifice.
Freedom dammit...freedom.
Well said, Sara...and welcome a-damn-board.

As we were riding the Metro home last night after watching fireworks on the Mall, I looked around the car at my fellow Americans -- Latino and Asian, black and white, young and old, all coming home from the same fireworks celebrating the same ideas of freedom and dignity for all people -- and said a little prayer of thanks that the haters among us are still outnumbered. So to everyone who still believes in true American democracy, a big thanks!

What a wonderful 4th of July treat to find the new site and some well-written columns. It'll be good to be back, post-Steve.
No one can take Steve (or Jen's) place, but hopefully this crew will come close.
As I said in LM piece, it would be great if you could find an expert - as Steve was - in battle/historical/geography knowledge.

My list of patriots and truth tellers also has to include Howard Dean who got me more involved in the first place.
