Notice how the people who were bought and sold here, sold themselves out for chump change?

these 3 sold out for a combined $81,500. that may sound like a lot, but in their circles that's chump change. here at work we sometimes talk about how much it would take for one to cheat, steal, take the money and run and leave all this behind. 81.5k wouldn't last 3 years. and that's not even living it up on an island somewhere. you'd have to get a night job bartending to make ends meet with just 81.5k. you'd have to work at night because you couldn't sleep for either selling out or for selling out so damn cheap. you'd lay awake at night thinking why didn't i steal more. that's the best investment att ever made. just think how things would be if pelosi, hoyer and emanuel had been replaced with true leadership 2 years ago. bush, cheney, rove, rumsfeld, gonzalez, the whole fucking alleged justice department and others would be in prison. phone calls would be private. there would be no such thing as a republican. bin laden would be dead. gas would be $1.19. american soldiers would be home. so forth and so on. but no. fuck it. these three asholes sold out for 81.5k. how cheap did they sell out on all the other issues they caved to bush on?

I sure hope my place here at the beach in Washington state sells before prices go completely in the crapper so we can be on our way to New Zealand. I know they got problems too, but at least they are not led by a whole CREW of grifters and criminals! I am a 61 year old veteran, been voting for 40 years. If all goes well I will vote in America one last time! I am ashamed.

Members of Congress: now available for less than you'd pay for a used sports car.
I'd say they've been getting their money's worth - unlike America at large.

i'm not so much appalled that they sold out, but that they sold out the 4th amendment so fucking cheap. you would think that violating core principles would be a bit more expensive.
at least six figures each.

Be great to have a Mike Stark-type turn up at their consituency events over the long weekend and ask them what it would cost to vote against telecom immunity. Excuse me Senator Hoyer, if we donate $30 K will you vote against it? Seriously, Senator, give me a number and we'll fundraise it.
As Humphrey Bogart once said (to Ugarte, I think): "I don't object to a crook--just a cut-rate one."

It is chump change. I bet the blogosphere could top that in a couple of days.

So you think the blogosphere really could? Why not then? -- it would be a lot of individual donations, so more legal, wouldn't it? Someone would have to organize it.
Since there are lots of organizations urging us to call our congresscritter to give our opinion, why not back that opinion with money?
There must be some downside, or it would have been done before.

Wouldn't work... the only money these guys like comes from the club. I'm sure they don't see themselves as "selling out" - I'd be more interested in seeing what the telecoms have done for them personally - phone bills, computers, internet connections, etc...

To be fair, it is a sure 30K per year, probably with a nice balloon payment at or near retirement. Still...

Why does this news remind me of the old anecdote where the punch line is "we have already established that. We're just haggling about the price"?
