Gravatar Let me attem'

Gravatar Now now, snake...

He's expecting us to try and take his his head off. Not to actually take his head off. *smiles sweetly.

Gravatar Not a serious person in the press thought that I meant anything other than being complimentary.

I assume by that he means his friends in the Beltway MilitaryIndustrialMediaComplex. Everyone else pretty much thought he came over as an inarticulate, past-it, loon. Probably explains his polling numbers.

Gravatar Joe Biden's MBNA credentials speak for themselves (cf., Bankruptcy Bill). In his case, Iraq is not the issue IMHO. That he's a corporate tool is.

Gravatar fwiw, I was one of the two or three people who read Walter Shapiro's last book.

WADR (lovely elastic phrase, isn't it?) he seemingly believes to this day that if the larger world would just catch up with his pretentions, he would totally have a grip on what the rest of us think.

What the rest of is think, I'm sure, is that we're waiting for someone with friends at the Times to let us know what's what.

Thank god he's got a book. Otherwise we'd have to read all of his other friends' excuses.

Gravatar Biden just reflects the paranoia that can be found among many Democrats in Congress. The idea that they would be held accountable for their pro-war NeoCon policies scares the shit out of them. They want to deal with kiss-ass pundits like Joe Klein.

Gravatar Shorter Joe:

Neither the facts nor the principles are on my side; therefore like a cheap-ass 30-cent lawyer I will bang my fist on the table in lieu of presenting a case.

Biden is an attorney and a 30-year politician. Communication is his business. He's not that good at it, has been not that good at it forever. But it's a tiny state, the competition is weak. It's like running for County Executive in Maryland's larger counties.

The same fucked-up thing in his head that makes him both want to be president and believe that he can take out Clinton, Obama, Edwards and Richardson in some sort of Bruce Lee spinning ass-kicking scene is making him say the stupid shit he is saying about so-called left-wing bloggers. As if Kos were so damn liberal; he's not.

Biden: prepare your remarks for your medium. Use words. Do not use all words; delete some. Do not ad-lib; you are not skilled in that mode. Leadership means taking responsibility for handling a press and electorate that is not particularly sympathetic to you. And Biden, stop reinforcing Republican memes; that's what gets your fellow Democrats killed, if you forgot.

Kerry did not lose because he went too far to the left; Kerry had no vision and his people, his base, perished. Biden will meet a similar fate, but much earlier.

Gravatar What been left unsaid here is the simple fact that they know that the grassroots (people of the USA) will come after them next...

They who would betray their country by sitting back and keeping their powder dry while 1000's of their countrymen were sent to die for an unjust cause,

they of the gang of 14, they who simply have no principles except the extension of the power of their cosy cartel,

Yep they know they are next and they are wetting their pants, they are the biggest reason that Clinton (one of them) shouldn't be the next president of the USA

Gravatar Biden's gonna make a spectacular Director of the National Drug Control Policy in the Obama Administration.

Gravatar I'm a lifelong Delawarean. In person, speaking to a crowd, Biden has charisma. When he was 29, he won an astonishing victory against a well liked Republican incumbent. (So I'm told about the charisma, I'm charisma-challenged when it comes to politicians. I've never thought any of them were charismatic in the 36 years I've been voting except for Jackson and Sharpton in the primaries).

Delaware is a corporate state with a population with a higher than average amount of education. They like politicians who support a good climate for business while being 'liberal' on social issues. Biden appeals to voters who want him to vote for legislation that benefits banks and large chemical companies. They also want him to support civil rights and assistance for domestic violence victims and children at risk and he does. He is unusually articulate when he speaks about crimes against women. He misspeaks when he talks locally too, but nobody cares. We're used to him and we know what he means.

Most Delawareans want him to be realistic about international affairs. And I will say this for Biden, he was on the Sunday talk shows BEFORE 9/11 complaining that the Bush administration wasn't taking the terrorism threat seriously and needed to put some serious money in the budget. I was watching and I remember.

He is of course always better than the Republicans who run against him and I don't believe he's ever had a challenger in the primary. I can't imagine we'd ever put someone in the Senate to the left of him as I would like. So I vote for him. But he's a Delaware politician, not a national one.

Gravatar Thank you guys for continuing the tradition that Steve started. Them other blogs just ain't for me. Steve never ever condescended to his audience. There isn't any Biden-like talking down to people here.

Now on to Biden. Gravel pegged him right when he called him arrogant in the debate. Biden's 'realistic' foreign policy includes dividing Iraq into three separate countries- another imposed situation that will fail for so many reasons. He tries to get his face on camera as often as possible, despite having very little to say. He is big on rhetoric and little on action. He thinks he owns the Democratic Party(as an elected official) and the grassroots getting active is tantamount to a usurpation of his power.

All of this is a waste of breath though, since he doesn't have a chance in hell of winning the primary, and even less in getting support from the left blogosphere. Hillary doesn't get much love from the blogs, but even she is smart enough to do what she can to woo them to her campaign.

Biden probably has that seat until he dies as Lynn from Delaware points out, but his miscalculation in believing himself to be a national candidate continues to befuddle me.

Gravatar Biden GUMS bloggers back...

"Stop finding out what we're saying, practically instantly, and reporting it on the internet.
That makes it so hard to suck up to lots
of different voter groups."

Gravatar McGovern represented new blood and was a threat to the establishment. Had he won, they'd have had to share power or give way. So they sat on their hands. Losing is no threat to the establishment. Some new, enthusiastic guy's winning, is.

Gravatar "Them other blogs aint for me..."

Yep. I got bumped 3 times in one afternoon at FDL, when I got after them for having Clinton on, and they wouldn't let anyone get "off topic" to ask her about her support for the war, and for Lieberman.

But, they work hard, and are very persistent at digging up the facts about all of the bullshit.

I'm glad they're there, and as they, themselves, say, it's a learning experience for us all. Good teammates, I reckon them. :o)

Jane's a good lady. I sure wish her the best.

Gravatar "And the world moves on and leaves you far, far behind"--James, P.S.

Sorry dude. The world is moving on. Your ilk, who think it's fine and dandy to shit on the average joe just to make a few bucks and grease the wheels..well in a few years that's just not going to be morally acceptable.

There's A new poetry coming through. A new way of doing things. A new vision, a new light. And one of the things that will be done, is those that have caused so much pain will feel it themselves. That's the way it goes. Payback is a bitch.

So Biden, when your precious banks and insurance companies have the legs slashed out from under them for anti-consumer practices, try not to cry too much, ok? Because it might not be fair, and it might not be square but believe me.

They had it coming.

Gravatar Yesss, Karmakin.

One of the "side benefits" of taking utter control of both houses, and probably that other house, too, is that we'll be able to shove some populist legislation right up their asses. :o)

Gravatar This is the same schmuck who was found out to have PLAGIARIZED during law school? And that dumbass ignorant comment, he uttered "you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent." Predates what he said about Obama but not by that much. Worse still, he defends it ALL. Unbelievable, yet not so much considering who he represents and where he's from.

Every single time I see him on CSPAN with his super shiny veneers saying some dumbass thing, spray on tan, expensive suit and poor-mans-Donald-Trump comeover I think to myself, what a great country to give equal opportunity to a moron like him.

Gravatar Lynn in Delaware, he has a broad teeth baring smile I think that's what passes for "charisma".

Gravatar So Biden is going to Yearly Kos?

I hope the MSM or at least YouTube is there to witness that debacle in the making. It's not going to be pretty. Keep your popping corn at the ready. There will be no parting of the waters; Biden will not be proclaimed the Moses that led those m-f bloggers into the light of reason.

I'm just amazed at Biden's kind of hubris. Any other embarrassed politician would have kept his powder dry and stepped out (and back) at singular moments, and focused on his seat and constituents. Instead, he pops up like whack-a-mole as if he really has something viable to say at every juncture.

"'They' don't own the Democratic Party?" Well, who does Joe? Can you give us a broad hint? I know so good and well that I've got more than a clue.

The rank and file, the community workers, the consistent voters OWN the party simply because they go out in the streets. These people have jobs--sometimes 2 or 3. They have mortgages. They have children. They have relatives in Iraq. These people read newspapers. They read books. They read magazines. They watch pundit shows. And they read or participate in blogs.

Man, I want film at 11 when he faces Yearly Kos. Let 'er rip, Kossacks.

Gravatar Tanbark @ 12:21

You (and several others) got 'ripped', as you put it, for being off-topic, because when the ladies say 'stay on topic', they mean it. (I avoided that thread, because of my feelings about Hillary; I would have been way off topic, too.) Next time, stay on the preceding thread there to do the OT stuff, like the rest of us.

Gravatar For example, one of the things that happens is that the public is coming to grips with how to deal with this instant, unfiltered information that may be deliberately mis-edited.

Ooo, unfiltered information - now there's a threat to life as we know it.

Not a serious person in the press thought that I meant anything other than being complimentary.

Would these serious persons in the press be the same ones who unblinkingly accepted every screwball assertion by the Bush administration in the run up to the Iraq war? Or are they the ones who so responsibly sat on the NSA warrantless wiretap story until after the 2004 election? Maybe they're the ones who parrot every statement from the press and the administration about Iranian involvement in Iraq and Al-Qaeda being the real enemy there.

Joe, "filtering" information to allow you guys to lie, to obfuscate or to say one thing and do another is not being serious - it's collaborating.

Gravatar Sorry, PJ. I aint cavin' for them to shill for hil, that easily.

And that's what they were doing, when they let her come on and brag about her support for new legislation for equal pay for women.

It's safe to say that there wasn't a person out of the 300-odd posters on that thread, who were opposed to that. I have three granddaughters, and I sure as hell wasn't.

They NEEDED to catch a little flak, and they caught it. As you say, from me and a few others. And, as they themselves said (and to their credit) they learned from it.

They, of course, want their site to grow, but in order for that to happen, they are going to have to "broaden their fan base" a little, and include some progressives who don't fit the "puppy" kaffeeklatsch mold.

I think that is happening, as we speak. :o)

The short of it is, with what's at stake, if ANY blogsite wants to bring on someone with Clinton's "credentials", and do a puff-piece Q&A with her, then they need to catch some shit. And then need to catch it on THAT thread, not the one that's set up for "permissable bitching" as we used to call it in the service.

Gravatar Note to Senator Biden:

The continued insistence of the Democrats that their politicians grow a spine is not a threat, but a simple means of communicating what they most want to do.

Which is:

SCENE - DON CORLEONE'S OFFICE
Johnny Fontaine: I don't ... I don't know what to do ... (sobs)
Don Corleone: YOU CAN ACT LIKE A MAN! (bolts from his chair and slaps Johnny)

It's just hard to line up every Democratic voter to slap every single Democratic politician in Washington. But it'd be nice to hear someone in the well of the Senate refer to the GOP bootlicker across the aisle as a "drooling sycophant" or "a great steaming pile of roadkill."

Gravatar It sure would be nice to hear that, Wanderer.

I'm thinkin' that the dems are scared shitless to start their engines so early in the coming demolition derby that's going to be about assigning blame, and about "just wtf ARE we going to do?"

But we are for sure talking about the rank and file of our party getting out ahead (In fact, we've been there...) of our "leaders", and speaking some truth TO the american people, and ABOUT the warpimps.

And that is clearly frightening to the "bidness as usual" assholes like Biden.

Same-old-same-old:

Gonna be hell of a summer and fall.

Gravatar Check that; maybe they're just scared shitless, period.

Gravatar Biden:

"I'm not going to let that system alter who I am."

Nosiree; I am the corporate-ass-kisser.

I am the "stay the course" flunky for any lucrative and well-funded piece of fuck-the-poor legislation that comes down the pike.

NO amount of information about my whoring out whatever principles I had at one time, will stay me from my appointed rounds underneath the desks of important lobbyists.

I am the walrus.

WTF, people; I AM THE DECIDERER! :o)

Gravatar blksista - yeah. Biden will be as unready for prime-time as ever, and I am quite sure it will be video-ed and swiftly YouTube-ed. It's one thing to witness a slaughter of a pig, another to "attend" it.

Gravatar I would not characterize Kossacks as Leftist. Perhaps they are moderate liberals who are against the occupation of Iraq, which is where there concerns meet mine. I do appreciate their organizing skills and ability to bring publicity to issues that are not corporate media driven, especially the unlawfulness of the current administration.

I have to wonder what good bashing bloggers does for Sen. Biden, though. Is it a reach out to entrenched journalists, in order to enlist their propaganda support? Print and broadcast journalism have become propaganda organs because of their monopoly power. Most cities have just one newspaper and broadcast media always seems to have the same themes regardless of which corporation owns the organization. Biden needs their support in order to win, because the blogosphere, despite its ability to arouse awareness, does not reach that many people. Old medias, especially electronic broadcasters, have a passive audience or a monopolized one. These mass audiences are passive, allowing the media to present them with content. On the internet, the audience is much more engaged, but also much smaller and less compliant. I can understand why politicos and their corporate masters do not like them.

Gravatar blksista and the others are right who say that the bloggers ARE the Democratic base.

Gravatar "Biden probably has that seat until he dies as Lynn from Delaware points out, but his miscalculation in believing himself to be a national candidate continues to befuddle me."

Well, it's pure Ego, isn't it? I honestly can't think of another reason why Biden continues to humiliate himself like this come every Presidential election season. By his own corrupt standards, he's doing quite well enough, as is.

Gravatar Ech. I despise Joe Biden. Every time his name comes up, I can't help thinking of Lewis Lapham's characterization of the rotten fucking asshole in his account of the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings for Harper's Magazine: At one point, when Thomas was pulling one of his patently phony "How DARE you even THINK of criticizing ME" tantrums, Biden (who, unfortunately, was one of the Dems presiding over the hearings) responded by practically whimpering (and I quote), "Please, Judge! I don't like this any better than you do!"

Oh, boo hoo hoo hoo hoo! I do hope poor, sensitive widdle Biden didn't lose too much sleep that night, crying into his pillow about all the wicked persecution his dear friend Thomas was having to put up with from those upstart Democrats!

Gravatar Wanderer,
I'd love to write that to my congressman. My newly-elected Democratic congressman, who I thought would be tons better than the old GOP guy. (I guess he's better, because the old rep is in prison now.)
Well, if he had legs to stand up for us and a spine, I'd be happier. As it is, he reminds me of a large sponge, soaking up the heady DC atmosphere (and our tax money) and not voting for a goddam thing I want him to.
Blue Dogs are just not worth very much, in my opinion.

Gravatar John D.; excellent shot! :o)

Bidet did everything but shine Thomas's shoes.

I was thinkin':

"These guys must watch porn flicks together..."

Gravatar I just imagined Biden and Thomas watching porn flicks together.

Then I imagined them wanking in response.

Then I went to my bathroom and puked up half my digestive system.

Tanbark, damn you to all seven hells of Thanagar for putting that in my mind!

Gravatar Bidet did everything but shine Thomas's shoes.

A bidet is basically an asshole-cleaner. And considering his relationship to the corporate power elite, "Bidet" is probably a good nickname for him!

Gravatar Oh, Jooooooeeee!

I am going to be at YK07. You be lunch!

--Lefty!!!

Gravatar Short and sweet. I have no respect for Joe Biden (the pompous windbag) because he allowed Clarence Thomas to sit on the Supreme Court. nuf said.

Gravatar Biden,

You will rue the day you got on my 'dark' side. Frankly, I doubt you will show at YK07...if ya do it's gonna be....

Yer ass dude.

Gravatar Why are we even giving Joe Biden, the man who plagiarized Neil Kinnock and was *shocked*, yes *shocked!* when he was caught out, the time of day?

Why shouldn't we be giving Joe Biden, Senator Citibank, the cold shoulder for being the lead on the bankruptcy legislation that puts Americans into debt slavery?

Joe Biden should be shown the door. To me, he's just Joe Lieberman's Mini-Me.

Gravatar Wonder if Biden read that op ed in the NY Times this morning calling for withdrawal of American forces from Iraq?

Gravatar I'd love to see a Washington Post page 1 story about Biden showing up at Yearly Kos in which he is described as being "articulate and bright and clean". And then let that description follow him though the rest of the primary.

It is hard to imagine a candidacy doing as poorly as his is actually tanking, but I'm sure that this could push him to the sub 2% range

Gravatar "I'll tell you what -- one of the things I'm not going to do. I'm not going to let that system alter who I am."

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Good one Joe! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !

Gravatar jOE IS RIGHT AND YOU FOLKS ARE A BUNCH OF LOUD MOUTH NO LITTLES WHOSE ONLY EFFECT IS ON THE VERY MSM PRESS CORPS THAT YOU HATE SO MUCH. THEY THINK THAT YOU ARE BIG AND IMPORTANT...WHILE WE DEMS, INSIDE THE SYSTEM, KMOW YOUR NUMBERS ARE MINUSCULE AND FEAR YOU NOT A BIT.

Gravatar Sadly he is the most qualified democrat running for office and you guys can't see it. You really do need to pull your heads out.

Good for Joe.
