Gravatar Thank you yet again, LM.

(Coming out of lurker mode briefly)

Gravatar My mother still says Wolf Ticket...and because she does..so do I (looks around sheepishly).

I remember when I first saw this on CNN and thought "Well, how r they gonna explain that one."

Gravatar I remember when it was also known as "sellin woof cookies" Guess that makes me OLD huh??

Gravatar My guess is that the less-than-subtle hints which Vladmir Putin has been dropping about how Russia will regard a US attack on Iran, has had an effect. There are now enough top-brass military and establishment big-wigs in the no-attack-on-Iran tent to make it very unlikely that the mad hatters in the Oval Office will get their way on this one.

Gravatar Yeah, the whole story of how this NIE came out -- and when -- is probably the most interesting aspect. Somebody in the national security establishment is throwing darts at Bushco. This latest really has to hurt.

But what does it mean? Is there really now a consensus among the men with short haircuts that Bushco has to be defied? They're sure screwing with him from behind the scenes.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the Oval Office this week.

Gravatar "But more importantly, according to the IAEA, there is no evidence that Iran ever had a nuclear weapons program - not now, not in 2003, not ever.
-snip-
"As far as I am concerned, the only source with credibility is the IAEA, not the US intelligence agencies, and certainly not carefully selected portions of a report that are released in a self-serving fashion."
"Iran NIE Report is just more spin"
Cyrus Safdari, Iran Affairs, Dec 04, 2007
http://www.iranaffairs.com/iran_...nie-repo- 1.html

"If Iran really had a nuclear weapons program until 2003 as the new report claims, then why has the IAEA found no evidence of it? Why should we believe that Iran EVER had a nuclear weapons program at all?"
"Iran NIE Report-Are you lying now, or were you lying then?"
Cyrus Safdari, Iran Affairs, Dec 03, 2007
http://www.iranaffairs.com/iran_...nie- report.html

So, 4 years ago Iran terminated a nuclear weapons program that never existed. Or at least one which the world's most credible authority, Mohamed ElBaredei/IAEA, has yet to find credible evidence for its existence. That's what we're spending $40+ billion per year on so DC MICC jackasses can send our kids on endless military fiascos to generate $1 trillion per year in arms industry income. Bullshit.

Gravatar AS I said on my blog, the leak of this part of the NIE was the intel community's way of throwing the Junta under the bus. Payback, pure and simple.

Gravatar Well, it's a bloody good thing someone is attempting to rein in Junior and his criminal gang. The Democrats sure as shit aren't doing a fucking thing.

Gravatar "Well, it's a bloody good thing someone is attempting to rein in Junior and his criminal gang. The Democrats sure as shit aren't doing a fucking thing."
John D.

-Now John D., you're not being civil!
You forget to talk about the good the Democrats are doing...like preserving that immense honking mountain range of dry powder...so it will be there when the Democrats EVER decide to use it.
/sarcasm OFF.

Gravatar John D,

Alas, I am forced to agree with you. As our resident muse LM pointed out, Original Gangsta Putin is pistol-whipping Junior Bushite Toughguy Wannabee pretty hard, and I am GLAD. Before, all we had was the Blue Shirt Ivy League Kids threatening to give the White Shirt and Khaki Ivy Kids a wedgee, which only resulted in long boring speeches about how even though wedgees are sometimes necessary, they should only be used as a last resort, etc.

Gravatar Not a good day for Bushie!......... claiming to have read the NIE only last week. In his own words, he's either completely out of the loop when it comes to high foreign policy/war/life and death matters, or he's been lying his head off for the past several months, hyping the Iranian nuclear threat, knowing full well that things were/are otherwise.

Gravatar Not a good day for Bushie!........... claiming that he didn't read the NIE until last week. Condemned by his own words. He's either completely out of the loop with regard to high matters of state, or he's been lying his head off over the past several months about the Iranian 'threat', knowing full well that things were/are otherwise.

Gravatar ............. sorry about double post.

Gravatar LM,

Well done again.

The intel community got thrown under the bus by the Bushies post-9/11 and were blamed for the Iraqi WMD thing.

This isn't the first time. Read up folks.

A History of Threat Escalation

The most notorious attempt by militarists and right-wing ideologues to challenge the CIA was the Team B affair in the mid-1970s. The 1975-76 “Team B” operation was a classic case of threat escalation by hawks determined to increase military budgets and step up the U.S. offensive in the cold war. Concocted by right-wing ideologues and militarists, Team B aimed to bury the politics of détente and the SALT arms negotiations, which were supported by the leadership of both political parties.

Gravatar Don't mess with the bureaucracy; they can do terrible things to you

Especially those which owe more loyalty to your (real not heavenly) daddy than you.

Love it. No offense to "wolf ticket" but that's my favorite new expression of the week.

A-freakin'-men.

Perhaps, but the naive kid in me would so much rather believe that they did it to save the country from being swept into the dustbin of history.

Gravatar I just watched the presser on TV, GWB had an emperor sans clothing moment.

It was hanging out for all to see, and pretty it was not.

Gravatar well said, LM, Wanderer, Cee ... everybody.

There's not a bus big enough to squash these agitators. Gotta give thanks to the spooks for trying (geez - who knew we had 16 spy agencies? That's a lot of people to piss off). Having steel-eyed Putey Poot flex his muscles in Russia helps, too - what do you think about that, Madame Condi the Soviet expert?

Bushites are like roaches. Every so often they'll scurry by in daylight with flapping, ugly wings exposed. But their real work happens under cover of darkness and in the remote nooks and crannies of what used to be our democracy. They munch away at our laws, liberties, reputation and basic principles on their mission of neocon world domination. All we're left with is a pile of poop pellets that used to be the Constitution.

We need the world's biggest can of RAID - in the lovely new lemon citrus scent I saw in the store the other day. I'll gladly man the can since it seems our elected Dem majority forgot to read "How to be an opposition party and save the world from a lunatic egomaniac".

*SIGH*

Ain't that the truth, Andy. Shorter BushCo: "Well, we might just attack Iran anyway, because they're still dangerous, because...because we said so, damn it!"

If this were fark.com, I would probably post in this very space an animated .gif file of Jesus Christ complete with the Holy Halo and royal robes of contemporary depictions, bouncing up and down and around and around on a pogo-stick.

Gravatar Latest AP Headline (today):
"Bush calls on Iran to 'come clean'"

As my role model E-40 would say about W:
his breath was stronger than his bite ... sellin mo' wolf tickets than a sold out Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield fight.
