Hang in there.

Waiting for news that may come whenever (?) is not a pleasant situation. Yet I am glad you are letting your #1 daughter come to terms with life her own way - the way your raised her.

This was not in Parenting 101!

Gravatar yikes... I could never be so patient. hope you hear from her soon- I would be going nuts. good work, dad.

Gravatar Good luck. I hope she's OK in the long term.

Harborview looks and sounds like the old Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Great place to go if you get shot - bad place to go with a non-life threatening injury.

Gravatar I'll hold a good thought for what sounds like a very independent young woman.

Gravatar Kids... At least it wasn't serious

Gravatar it's one of the toughest things to do. the holding back part. best wishes that she comes through this OK. hang in there jesse. there are other reasons that she wouldn't have been given pain meds, but, you know them doc. that she's been released is the best news of all.

room to run. it's what they need.

Gravatar If I let my mind free, I would be terrified 24/7 thinking about my son.

But I don't, cuz ya can't.

Thanks for the inadvertent parenting tips.

I hope you and she are talking and chuckling soon.

Gravatar I'm sorry to hear about this but happy to hear she came through it okay. I do think Avian should be just a teensy bit more considerate of her parents feelings, though.

And a big reason she came through alright is because she was wearing her seatbelt. Take note of that, NewsBlog readers!

Gravatar Glad to hear that the worst that seems to be in the offing was a bloody bad scare.

Don't even get me started on the subject of tailgating in Metro Seattle. I could get thrown into a dungeon so deep they'd have to pump air to me, just for what I think about the ubiquity and insolence with which so many of the local assclowns tailgate.

Gravatar L&L, you're preaching to the hairshirt fanatics when you talk to me about seatbelts.

Gravatar Glad she's ok. You got a smart kid there. You raised her right. She'll do fine.

Gravatar boy, oh boy, it's hard. Damn hard to raise these kids. The whole point, whether as parents we like it or not, is to get them to the point where they really do NOT need us. We are supposed to teach them how to leave and then we are supposed to like it.

I know you did the right thing, Jesse, but I agree with L&L above that maybe she needs to be a little bit more considerate of you and her mom. Just because we do want them to be independent doesn't mean they should keep you shut out, especially at a moment when something like this happens.

Glad to know it sounds like all is well, but I'd sure like to hear that the two of you are talking about this soon.

Gravatar Jesse,

Please keep us all posted, and call me if you need to.

Gravatar hang in there. props to the HMC!! folks, it is the place you want to be if you suffer major trauma pretty much anywhere in WA-MT-OR-ID-WY. if i ever get in an accident i'm going to grab an EMT by the neck and croak, "f**k my insurance company...take me to HMC!!"

any harm whatsoever to one's kids is a nightmare. prayers going your way.

Gravatar Harborview is great as long as you stay within their specialties. For instance in addition to trauma they have a first rate burn center.

The other stuff isn't bad but isn't outstanding either.

Avoid the ER unless you have a life threatening condition. If you are there for urgent care you'll end up waiting for quite a while.

Gravatar You may have raised her to be independent, but not calling you when she got out (or telling her sibling to call you), was cruel. she has to have known that you would be concerned. It isn't independent to fail to update you on her condition, it's mean. (There's a difference between asking for help and giving news to your loved ones.) Not an adult yet.

Gravatar L&L, you're preaching to the hairshirt fanatics when you talk to me about seatbelts.

Good. I recall saying one time during the final days of Steve's News Blog that what really gets to me are shallow young pretty people who don't wear their seatbelts because wearing seatbelts isn't "cool". How long do they imagine they would stay pretty after being ejected through the windshield at 60+ MPH and landing face-first wherever they land after said ejection? That happens.

Gravatar Ugh, sorry to hear that.

Luck to yah.
