Um - correct me if I'm wrong, but did we just see Nancy Pelosi endorse Edwards?

She ends her introduction "The next president of the United States - John Edwards!" which has to have the Hillary and Obama people going "WTF?"

Gravatar KnaveRupe - Possibly, but did she seem slightly drunk when she did it?

Gravatar I got that too, Knave!

Does nan-nan know something we don't?

:o) :o) :o)

Either way, it WAS a good speech by John.

Thanks, Jesse, for posting it.

Gravatar Of course, THE endorsement is going to come from Al Gore, assuming he doesn't decide to get in, himself. And that is looking increasingly unikely, now.

The sweet irony of it is that after the 2000 rip-off, when Pope Al bestows his Papal blessing, he might be picking the next president of the U.S. :o)

Gravatar He's actually been talking with this passion for months now. Carolinagirl has several speeches posted that she herself recorded. Too many times the candidates pander to the audience where ever they're speaking and then soften their message to the larger audience. Not Edwards. He speaks the same words to the larger audience as we see here and at his "Moral Test" speech.

And there's a reason. He means it. From his heart and soul, he means it. He's on a mission. He stood up there and spoke those words in Nancy Pelosi's and the Democratic Party's face. He GETS it.

He was the first speaker that night and he set the bar high. The other candidates pale.

Edwards/Kucinich my ticket.

Al Gore is heading up the business sector with a huge re-direction away from an oil/arms/war based economy to a more constructive direction for our planet and this country in particular. I like where he is and feel he's playing a vital role with his own mission. He needs to come out before Iowa for John Edwards and tell those who would "write in" his name to not waste their votes like that. He's not a candidate. John Edwards is. And he's the real deal.

No other candidate showed up to walk the line with the Writer's Guild. John Edwards did. He's a Democrat.

Gravatar tanbark: if nancy endoresed him he is definatly not my canadate. She seems to be edgeign towards DINO teritory, and very obviously consider those of us in teh middle class not her pople. I would hate vote for someone who only pretends to respect us in the dirty masses.

while I dount think that john feels that way, nancy definatly dose....that he would accept her recomandation is damming in my eyes.

Myrtle. why would edwards saddle himself with Kucinich? Why would gore endorse edwards??

Gravatar moonglum -

I don't thin kuch is a saddle? He's the most progressive candidate out there. Its only political "social sceneryists" that makes a mockery of this man's ideals. I guess it depends on if we want more TMZ politics or if we want real governance. I choose real governance.

Gore, should.... and will, endorse Edwards because he's the only one as fed up as Gore is with the bubble of political fuckery that goes on in our governement.... and is the most electable and fit to lead. Gore has an important role here as I see it within the business world and economy of our nation and world savery. I think Edwards would be the most likely to actually DO things as opposed to creating more layers and layers of ineffective programs and unenforcable laws. The only way back to the Constitution and the real "middle road", and away from daddy-state facism, is a hard left turn. Edwards gets that and I think Gore does too.

I also want Obama to go through the entire process and gain experience for the future. I can see him as President in the next go 'round and we need him in Congress till then. I can see Richardson as key negotiator and Education role as clear as day. I would like to see the Office of Faith Based Initives transformed overnight to focus on funding and grants for Earth Friendly based initiatives and all the funding for church schools/home schooling be returned to public schools only and NOT for any public schools who are outsourcing education to private industry. There are so many things that need to be re-directed to a more positive path.

Shorter me: Gore and Edwards have the same goals.

Gravatar Myrtle: it is allways nice to see an optimist....still wondering if your glass is half full. with out reliseign that soem one stole your glass. Edwards words and actiosn don't allways mesh, neither do gores...i guess in that they are in it together.

Gravatar It's apparent that this country is gonna need another FDR, and soon given what's coming down the pike. I've been watching Edwards as well as the rest of the field for several years now, and, by the gods, Edwards is the closest individual to FDR that I have seen in a long long time. The guy says what he believes, and I have been with him right along, coming from a very similar background. He tells us what he's going to do, and dammit I believe he'll do it without the interference of the corporate interests. We won't have socialism, but we have to recognize that government must play a significant role in society where collective action is the sole alternative to any problem in search of a solution that can't be done on an individual basis. Yes, dammit, we need another New Deal.

Gravatar This is who Edwards is, every time I've seen him. He was this same guy -- quieter, more thoughtful, and delightfully spontaneous -- during the breakout session at YKos. There were only 150 or so of us, and we were nailing him to the wall (the first questioner pinned him hard on what he plans to do with the current war criminals after they're out of office; others hit him on some really esoteric stuff he fielded with most excellent wonkery), but he just ate it up with a spoon.

We were a scary crowd for all the candidates, and you could tell he was sweating it a little; but he also seemed to thrive on the challenge. I suspect he's got a bit of an adrenaline jones -- he loves putting it all out on the line -- which is not a bad thing in a president.

Like the Big Dog, he also seems to enjoy the give-and-take with people. (While we were peppering him with all manner of pointed questions, I kept flashing on Bush's oh-so-carefully scripted encounters with The Voters. If Edwards can handle a room full of the country's top bloggers -- and leave them with a standing ovation -- he doesn't need any of that hothouse bullshit anywhere, ever.) While he lacks Bill's charisma, he partakes far more heavily of the southern liturgical tradition in his way of speaking. It's damned near hypnotic in the hands of a master; and Edwards is, make no mistake, a master of the form.

Glad you're beginning to get why he's my pick of the litter. A Gore endorsement -- wow. Yeah, that'd be perfect.

Gravatar Hey you all, at the JJ dinners every candidate speaks and every candidate is introduced as the next president of the United States.

it is tradition.
and actually I really like it.

so no, Nancy did not endorse.

tlg

Gravatar Good work littlest gator. Amazing how folks can be so ignorant of the way the game is played. Even in Free Left Blogistan.

I stole this vid.

And I posted it and I'm gonna drive everone on my blog nuts UNTIL THEY GET ON BOARD THE EDWARDS FREEDOM TRAIN!

No higher praise can I give you Jesse than to do that and also tell ya Steve would be proud.

.

Gravatar Thanks TLG. Good to know that! So she's cursed each one of them with her endorsement

moonglum - I don't need a glass.... straight from tap works for me.

btw, who is it that you're for? and why? Jest wondering...

Gravatar I've been on Team Edwards since the last round. He's not just on a mission, he's LIVED it. And I don't buy the easy target BS about how he's a rich man now and how he made his living. You're telling me that he should have spent the rest of his life on the factory floor?

Sometimes it amazes me how even the poor and even middle class in this country want to nail one of their own over someone born into it all.
