Gravatar I started reading GNB because I missed Gilly.

I keep reading because of posts like this.

Gravatar ...

I got nothing.

masterful LM masterful

Gravatar hammer.
nail.
head.

again.

you. rock. out. loud. LM.

Gravatar Wicked brilliant. I loved this line best:

She couldn't connect with viewers if you coated her with Krazy Glue and fired her into an audience full of them.

I'm gonna be chuckling over that all day.

Gravatar "we were treated to the in-need-of-a-helmet-at-all-times E.D. (As is “Special E.D.”"

Fuck you! Those people you just demeaned deserve a whole lot better than to be your stick for hitting the sack of lying shit that is fox news.

You have any idea what kind of pain you're tapping into when you toss that grenade around?

Gravatar So I wonder at what point serr8ed (sir-h8ed?) will show up to treat us all to his masterful "Malkin" impression?

Gravatar Happy Solstice- nothing like a fox news/gop smackdown from LM as part of his double-header for this long day. Nobody better to deliver the goods on this issue, thank you sir!

Gravatar LM--another masterpiece. Please keep them coming!

RE sexuality--I have never forgiven Matt Bai for the piece he wrote about Gilly for the "The Lives they Lived"

Bai quoted him as saying He lamented that he didnt know what it was to wake up naked in a strange bed, but, he wrote, at 35, Ive figured out that this is it, at least for now. Anything I do, any life I make, is going to revolve around words and computers and strange, bright people.

Two lines, from separate quotes. The "naked in a strange bed" line was taken totally out of context--let me note that while he never woke up in MINE, he did indeed have a sex life and had his wild nights out. His friends in college weren't just fellow history geeks, but some very hard-partying frat boys, and he did indeed share in many of their adventures. He wrote those lines (which were taken out of context) when his illness had truly seeped in, not as a reflection of his entire life to that point.

OOOOH, but saying that would make him scary and UNNAPROACHABLE. No, if he's gonna be a strong Black male voice with *gasp* technical abilities who *horrors* grew up in public housing, he had DAMN BETTER WELL NOT HAVE EVER used his Zulu Stick outside of Correctly Socially Sanctioned Purposes, which in his case, would apparently be NEVER.

*grrrrr/angry*

Gravatar Well, happily, last night I watched Dan Abrahms and Jonathan Alter put the complete smackdown on some right wing radio freak on specifically this subject - and when I say smackdown, well, words like "disgusting" and "bigot" and "liar" and "loathesome" were being hrled so fast that they were talking over each other to smack him down. Fairly enjoyable to watch.

Gravatar Fox News is in desperation mode in their trying to spin for the GOP this election year.

Above all, even ideology, Rupert Murdoch likes winners. And to back them and suck up to them, so they can protect him or turn a blind eye to his further power-grubbing (as an example, look at Tony Blair's rise to power in England). His default party in the US is, of course, the Republicans, but he correctly sees that the GOP is going down to an historic defeat in November. So, in order to stay on top, he started looking for a Democrat to back. He chose Sen. Clinton (I do not intend this as a criticism of Sen. Clinton in any way).

He chose the wrong team. And he has pissed off the winning team no end. Now he has to desperately flog the McCain campaign by trotting out any and every weapon in his arsenal against Sen. Obama, resorting all too quickly to racist and sexist attacks.

Assuming that Obama wins in November, it would be fair to say that he's got an awful lot of more important issues than settling Rupert Murdoch's hash. But should he find the time and the inclination to do so, Murdoch might regret pissing off someone from the South Side.

Gravatar The right is going to throw all of the "traditional" American racist lines at Michelle because her background is much more familiar to them then Barack's.

Gravatar I still think Obama should refuse to have Fox anywhere near him until they apologize in writing and on air for insulting his wife. Including losing White House access if it gets that far.

Gravatar I think fox should lose all access regardless...they jsut make shit up anyway, why have them around

Gravatar If Michelle had a slightly different chromosomal content and a melanin challenged wrapper she would be running for President as a Republican and she'd be winning.
Also, as a person who was raised in a very Irish political setting {Park Slope, Brooklyn 1950s} let me assure you that with Obama's Irish Chicago Pol Schooling, he will definitely be waiting for the right and happy moment to place the shiny shiv in the Fox collective back. He is not a slow learner.
Michelle will be the most forceful and involved First Lady the US has ever seen. Get used to it.

Gravatar She's bereft of any vestiges of what one could remotely call humanity or common decency. Imagine how low you have to be if your role model, and the person you aspire to be like, is the odious Ann Coulter.

Gravatar LM 11 on a scale of 1-10..

DJ

Your on the money there.

Gravatar So I wonder at what point serr8ed (sir-h8ed?) will show up to treat us all to his masterful "Malkin" impression? -Loveandlight

Ohhh - about an hour after he's finished tossing her email/blog salad.

Gravatar Ok, now I am going to hear that song in my head every time anyone says anything stupid like this about the amazing michelle obama! thanks!

Gravatar Malkin's a guttersnipe of the worst order. A friend commented that she probably reminds hard-right-wing white guys of the hoochie mamas they left behind in Asia after the wars they fought in. Could be why they support her vicious mouthings.

Gravatar Personally I find Malkin fascinating. Repellent, but fascinating. Her talents, such as they are, appear to mostly be yelling and feigning outrage. Her reasoning skills are either entirely absent or she fakes ignorance very well. She's kind of a train wreck on TV, yet there she is up in front of the cameras again and again.

Somebody thinks she sells soap, but I am utterly incapable of imagining how.

Gravatar Wonderful LM. Thanks. I can't wait for First Lady Michelle Obama.

Smart, passionate, strong, and
knows how to get things done. A partner. Beautiful and stylish on top of it. I hope their heads explode.

Gravatar I think fox should lose all access regardless...they jsut make shit up anyway, why have them around

That's not how to screw over Murdoch. If Obama did that, they'd bitch and moan 24-7 about how the "fair and balanced news network" is being punished for its fearless criticism of the "liberal power."

Rupert owns a lot of media outlets. A national television network. A number of its local affiliates. A canle news channel, and several cable entertainment channels. A movie studio. A newspaper in NYC, and a national newspaper based in NYC (the Wall Street Journal) that dreams to challenge the New York Times as the "paper of record." MySpace.com. That's an awful lot of media in the control of one person. Put an anti-trust suit on his ass, and watch him squirm. Force him to reduce the number of affiliates he owns. Have him choose -- own Fox 5 in New York, or the Post and the WSJ; he can't have all three. Ensure that he can't swoop in and re-buy the Chicago Sun-Times, which is in rather big financial trouble, by re-forbidding cross-ownership of TV stations and newspapers in the same city (grandfathering in the current situations).

That's how you screw Murdoch, because the average person doesn't give a flying fuck about whether Murdoch owns ten local TV stations or six. But, oh, Rupert cares. Rupert cares a lot.
