Gravatar Good thread, Little Gator. Things like this scare the living shit out of the repubs. When people start believing that they, and their candidate, CAN make a difference, it's like kryptonite to Superman.

This one is for all the marbles. We win, and they'll be so far back in the political wilderness that they'll have to feed them with a slingshot, and the entire conservative construct will be up shit creek without a paddle.

They win, and the corporate 4th Reich is rolling on, and probably permanently enshrined.

Which is why they're going to throw everything they can at Obama. No smear will be too low or too much of a lie.

But there is this; they are bullies; and like all bullies, when they see they're going to lose, they fold. Let's do all we can to make sure that, in November, they DO lose.

Jesse Unruh:

"Money is the mother's milk of politics".

We need to make sure that the milk flows freely, to Obama. :o)

Gravatar Tan, see my post below in past thread.

Money can't fix broken and rigged voting systems.

And Obama should be 60 points out, at this point, and polls only have him at 6.

Money ain't gonna buy teh evil back . . .

Money don't buy teh machine that's cranking this crap out.

We need a LOT more than money, we need OUTRAGE from each and every citizen, blogger, and voice available, to call the GOP on every shot.

Sure, money for the MSM, but of what help have THEY been in our past? Hmmm? Sold us out, time after time.

I DO like, that they are slowly shifting, but their ad dollars DON'T come from progressive or even MODERATE sources.

Them MSM ad dollars come from the 1%, and NO amount of our money can beat THAT shit.

Nope, we gotta hit the ad dollars, the advertisers, and the products to win this one . . .

There's just NO incentive for the MSM to give a voice to Obama causes . . . and paid ad dollars to air spots are fine, and nice, but they won't change the masses opinions much . . . and the MSM will GLADLY siphon that Dem money which coulda been used for other purposes (voter turnout, local organization, election committee's to INSIST on rules).

The pundits, our money raising can't buy them off. And the pundits, and the GOP 'enabled' commentators who shill on the news shows, our money can't buy THEM out.

We need better strategy than throwin money to the winds . . . I wish I had one . .

Gravatar The GNB *is* the strategy. By doing the journalism that the MSM blew off years ago and putting it online, good blogging is luring the curious away from their TVs and national dailies. It's an added bonus that blog readers (on the left, mostly) tend to be the most motivated and activist--the cream off the viewing audience. Though some comments on blogs might cast doubt on that idea, on the whole I think it's true.

For awhile, when blogs emerged, thhe conventional idea was that some A-list bloggers might form a conduit to the mainstream press and TV. That may be somewhat true on the right, but not on the left. So people on the left are skipping CNN, NYT or the WaPo and getting more of their news from blogs and less from the likes of Wolf Blitzer. Bloggers ask the questions that TV talking heads should be asking. After enough facepalm headaches, thinking viewers just turn the TV off and go online. They get tired of David Brooks, Thomas Friedman and Jonah Goldberg (!) farting in their faces from the pages of once-respectable national dailies.

Funnily enough, it was the right that turned away from mass media first. They considered the media too liberal, and their response is telling. First came the Christian Broadcasting Network, then the smaller private empires nurtured by "Excellence In Broadcasting" - Rush Limbaugh and G. Gordon Liddy, petty potentates living off subscription and merchandising and the helping hand of godfathers like Scaife. As self-appointed authorities with fat subscription lists, they can blather to guaranteed audiences and sic them on the MSM for not seeing things their way. It's petty dictators and godfathers all the way.

The rightwing response works better where the price of entry is high and there is a command structure, like with newspapers, TV and radio stations. Air America tried to reproduce this for the left, but were late and almost failed, for various reasons. The biggest is they tried to fight the right on the right's turf.

The internet favors the left by being loosely organized and allowing strong voices and actions to emerge from pretty much everywhere.

Leftwing blogs like the GNB steal from the MSM a better class of viewer than rightwing blogs do.

I'd ramble more, but it's a nice day out. I hope this is going somewhere.

Gravatar And Obama should be 60 points out, at this point, and polls only have him at 6.

larue, Pat Lang wrote some words just recently on this precise subject: Obama's rhetoric is not enough.

They ring much more truly now than they would have before the FISA capitulation.

Gravatar Out of curiosity, have there been any studies done on the influence of blogs in getting around the MSM ? There are of course stories of the MSM sometimes backtracking when caught peddling their nonsense, so we know they are paying some attention, but what of the ordinary citizen ? By this I mean a survey of the public asking where do they get their news and analysis, and explicitly including blogs as an option along with print media, TV and radio.

Gravatar This isn't a slam on Obama himself or anything, but it's difficult for me not to be at least a little disturbed by the fact that the pic above the post was taken in Germany, and a lot of the people in it have their right arms pointing up into the air.

Gravatar L&L, I noticed that as well.

Only a matter of time before Fox starts juxtaposing pics like that with ones of You-Know-Who at Nuremburg, or Lenin haranguing the crowds in Moscow (some of the poses the artists put him in - leaning slightly forward, arm upraised).

Gravatar If you take an only slightly closer look, you will see that people are holding up digicams and cameraphones.

Really, it's highest time for you to update your cultural stereotypes.

Gravatar Thomas is so right, people! You were supposed to click on the link/ picture if you see the big version it is easy to tell those folks are ALL holding cell phones and cameras!

Gravatar As Jonah Goldberg would say, outstretched camphones are the Sieg Heil of liberal fascism.
