Ahem, I think ALL kids should see this video, and the earlier the better.

And "kids" doesn't necessarily refer to calendar age...

Gravatar part of me wants this to go through. birth controll is almost universly accepted, abortions are not.if access to teh pill was explicitly tied to roe v wade we could turn an overwhelming majority away form the theocrats.

Gravatar hell kick in gettign ones tubes tied (stops a potential soul, ect ect) as an "abortion" realy solidify the right to an abortion by helping these jerks overreach.

Gravatar you said, "New regulations proposed by the Bush-infected Department of Health and Human Services, slated to go into effect next week..."

This is incorrect. These are, as you say, merely proposed rules and they were leaked to the NYT before they were submitted to the Federal Register. I work for a national reproductive rights organization and I'm pretty sure I'd know if they'd been submitted; they hadn't as of close of business Friday. Even if they are submitted today, the *earliest* they could go into effect is 120 days from now. (30 days for comments, 30 days for response to comments, 30 days for "compliance.").

Gravatar That 'petition' is just a phishing expedition for HilPAC. I don't want to be added to their mailing list, so I am not about to sign that 'petition'.

Not that I'm against Senator Clinton, I just don't want yet more spam from corrupt politicians, I get enough of those...

If anyone has a link to a REAL petition and not just a PAC email spam scheme, please do post the link.

Gravatar I'm grateful that you wrote this post. it is incredibly difficult for health policy-related issues to gain traction in the blogosphere.

I write extensive about the ills of HHS, its agencies and the Bush loyalists who have destroyed the ability of the health related agencies such as the FDA, CDC, USPHS, DIHS, NIH, CMS, etc., to carry out their respective missions.

But, as just one example, are you aware that DemFromCT, a front page Daily Kos poster, has actively covered for Leavitt and the now departed to Wal-Mart, former Asst HHS Secretary John Agwunobi relative to pandemic flu preparation? He attempted to interact with HHS, took their messages at good faith face value and was used and abused in return (as have we all).

Very few people with a progressive point of view are educated to a functional degree of familiarity with the players, the fundamental issues and the history and track records of the health players in the Bush administration.

Please let me know when I may be of assistance and support. I'll do what I can to raise the level of awareness and to suggest action plans.

Gravatar I'm confused as to why the Senators are not doing something on the floor about this.... right NOW instead of blogging and petitioning frittering away valuable time like this. This makes no sense. Get a resolution going instead of pushing the panic button on us.

Gravatar Maggie - do you have a resource for the text of the regulations?

I can't google one up anywhere, even a search of the HHS site, and the only reference I can find stems from blogs, no text of the new regs.

The only thing I found was the fda trying to mess with human bioidentical hormone replacement and two resolutions against that.

Could you post a reference for the proposed actual regs, if you have it handy. Thanks

Gravatar Yep - this all confirms Rep. Barney Frank's (D-Mass) comments about the right wing "pro-life" folks over 20 years ago --- "Sure, they're pro-life. They believe that life begins at conception and ends at birth" - given their policy attention to anti-abortion, but opposition to any social policies that aid people ALREADY BORN.

Gravatar The New York Times reported on it here. What it does is deny federal funds to any entity that refuses to hire staff that object to abortion -- but it then defines abortion as “any of the various procedures — including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action — that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation.”

....which goes beyond defining contraceptive methods such as the pill and the IUD that act to create an inhospitable environment for implantation as abortion...it defines any fertilized egg that does not result in a baby as an abortion -- including an ectopic pregnancy. So if you have an ectopic pregnancy, you die. Period.

What's dangerous about this is that once they criminalize abortion, then the nightmare scenario I've been talking about for years in which a menstrual period becomes a crime becomes not just plausible, but likely.

Gravatar Thanks, Jill. That's what I was looking for.

Gravatar That link's behind a reg-wall, Jill.

Gravatar The only place I've seen the text of the proposed regs on line is a pdf link available at the top of this page:

http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/bl...eption- abortion

but I've been on vacation/out of the loop for awhile so it might be available elsewhere.

Gravatar I found a great prescription discount card at www.rxdrugcard.com. Let me give you an example of the savings. I ’ve seen ads on TV for Caduet. It has two ingredients. One is Amlodipine and the other is Atorvastatin. With my RxDrugCard I can get 30 tablets of Amlodipine for $9 and 30 tablets of Simvastatin for $9. I’ll bet they are charging more than $18 for this new drug! I think that RxDrugCard.com is the best drug card available for prescription discounts. The monthly family membership fee is only $4.95! You can’t beat that!
