I was down at SIU(visiting a friend) last time New madrid threatend to level the midwest (back in the 90's)....we emptyed the dorms and camped out on the quad...nothign happened, but it was a good excuse to drink a lot...then again it was SIU the sun riseing is a good excuse to drink alot.

I finally got back to my little corner of Tokyo. Airlines really handled everything well in dealing with our mechanical problem, they put me up in a hotel, made all the plane change arrangements. But still so tired.

I learned today that more than 20% of the worlds major or above 5pts on the scale earthquakes happen in Japan.

I use the difference between the damage earthquakes cause in countries like the US and Japan with the damage they cause in places like China, Mexico, or Iran as an example of why strong building codes are a very good idea.
