I'm sorry, but I can't get all teary eyed over killers for hire. I've been deleted a few times at another place recently for being so pointed.
Mercenaries are wrong to me. Its just wrong to have private armies for hire. Its wrong for our US Military to be used as personal foot soldiers for arms and oil business' gain. Its wrong to have contractors doing everything our military service people should be doing.
Mercenaries' loyalty is to the dollar bill and the people with the dollar bills. MY goddam tax dollar bills creating an army that could well be hired to come after me in the future. AND they would do it for the dollar bill too. No. I got nothin'.

I aint getting teary eyed. live by the sword.
My point was more that the Bush admin has been keeping the number secret, more to the point they have been keeping the fact that we are using Merc's a secret. In fact the MSM wont use the word at all.

Yes, you're so right I agree. Not a secret any more though, so commence the spin cycle.
My comment was at the article and msm's intent. This article is nothing more more than the msm wrapping a piece of shit up in some cotton candy all pink and wispy like to serve with their regular koolaid fare. Bleeeeech.

these guys are just like the contarctors on teh death star...the yknew exaclty what they where signing up for, the rewards out weighted the risks in their minds.....
I think one of the major lessons we need to learn form this is that outsourceing dosn't even work for wars. (if any one bothers to study the roman empire you would allready know this.)

It is also a question if we had no mercs would we be more careful in creating wars and a need for them? Wharever happened to the idea of American citizen-soldiers?

Citizen-soldiers? That is so 20th century. Now the army says warrior-citizens. Gee, wonder if they are all blond haired and blue eyed?

Uh, Guys?
You seem to have fogotten that not all of these contractors are combat mercenaries. If you'll re-read the piece, maybe 20% of the contractors carry guns. Many are support people of one kind or another who are trying to leverage an opportunity when they may or may not exist for them Stateside.
Mercs know that they are signing up for and as you say, deserve no sympathy. But there are many others who like those poor, God-forsaken troops, are trying to do a job and get home alive. Often they are sent on dangerous assignments with no military support.
Watch "Iraq for Sale" and you'll see what I'm talking about.

BassGuyGG - I'm well aware of the talking point you're using to try to make outsourcing the United States Military business qualify as A-OKay. It a huge slap in the face to those who do put on a uniform to protect and DEFEND this country when necessary.
The contractors make at least twice what they would in the military. And again, they work for companies with lots of my tax dollars to wave around and their loyaly it not to this country either. I don't care if they drive a truck or make a canape for happy hour. Unless they're in the military, they've got no business in the war zone business.
And the American Military has got no business in the invasion and occupation of other countries for the sole purpose to line the pockets of the oil and arms merchants from hell. It dooms us all by its very premise.
