Gravatar The dumbest thing I heard about this was on Bill Press' radio show (yeah .. big shock.. I listen just to torture myself)..

Bill said "what you mean she only won because everyone else ran out of gas". I was expecting a joke to follow .. but he was dead serious. What a tool.

Gravatar Shouldn't that be "Danica" Patrick? Sorry; just asking.

Gravatar Still, it's a milestone victory for her and for Indy racing in general.

Gravatar Typos fixed. Thanks.

Gravatar i have a brother-in-law who works for GM. he met ms. patrick a few years ago. he said she was gracious, ernest, and wicked smart. he works at a proving ground facility and they have some pretty outrageously exotic equipment. he told me that she has engineering chops.

a few days after her visit he was messengered a photo of himself and ms. patrick. it was autographed and inscribed to his daughter. the inscription said

your dad is the greatest!

love, danica
.

i'm her fan forever.

Gravatar good for her...that ought to piss off the raceing fans, now we ned a women ot win a nascar race

Gravatar Yes, the message boards at ABC and CBS were full of whining twits. Some got quite nasty and obscene.

Gravatar "Bill said "what you mean she only won because everyone else ran out of gas"."

Someone should have pointed out to Mr. Press that that means that she (and her crew) managed her race better than everyone. I'm not a huge auto racing fan, but isn't that one of the main goals in a race? It sounds to me like Bill would complain if his favorite baseball team lost in extra innings because they used up all their pinch hitters and good relievers, while the opponent was able to win on a pinch-hit home run in the 13th given up by a recent AAA call-up who had no business being in the majors.

Face it, Bill Press, she won fair and square, and if it were Daniel Patrick instead of Danica, you wouldn't have said "boo!"

Gravatar NASCAR fans would be giving her kudos since their game is all about tire and gas strategy and then, if that doesn't work, the nudge into the rail.

I still remember the goose bumps I had when she slipped into the lead at the 500 and, iirc, how she was overtaken because she had to go slower to conserve gas.

Gravatar I'm glad she won. :o)

And; Pose, Danica, pose. :o)

Gravatar whooooo wheee. FABULOUS.

I'm NOT a car racing fan, and am trying to get over my bad car taste (my first car was a yatch--1973 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon--dad thought it'd be safe), but this is terrific news!

Gravatar Regarding the freak-outs from knuckle draggers - it's all about women and minorities going places that used to be the exclusive preserves of white guys. We saw it with Tiger Woods and golf, Charley Pride and country music and now Danica Patrick with Indy cars and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton with presidential politics.

At the same time, I remember the standing ovation that Patrick got when she let the Indy 500. And I am so happy for her!
