Nonetheless, a very fitting tribute. As a Mets fan, a Digby fan and a person who treasures Gillard's true and distinct voice - I say - Congratulations Michael. Your work is insightful, important, and relevant.

"the gilly" is a fitting and proper remembrance for our friend who provoked many thoughts and mentored so many of us into the world of writing and blogging. i can't say i know how steve would have reacted to the idea. he'd probably think it was pretty cool that he was being honored in such a way, then he'd realize "if they're doing something like this i'm probably dead and stuff."
he'd get that whole conflicted thing between pride and regret going and be off on another dance of insight.

Gilliard grant. I like it.
While i like the gillard grant, he was always big on tryign to fund deserving blogers. I think another tribute could be aranged (understand I'm just mentaly masterbatign here).
group health plan for bloggers...a fund could be setup to help meat premiums for those in needed..but even without that it would be a hugh help. group plans are head and sholders better than and cheaper than individual insurance. I don't knwo how many of you have been on an individual plan...it sucks, I was droping ~1000 a month..honestly I droped it adn whent with catastrophic care for a while...children well vists and maternity jsut are not coverd on individual plans....for me it was far cheaper to pay 100% out of pocket..hell I switched jobs jsut to get health care on a group plan.
Lots of unions/trade organizations set this type of thing up for their members (wife is a member of romance writers of america now, so if i leave my current job we can still get worthwhile health care), the members have to pay ther full cost of the plan, but its still better and cheaper then getting insurance on your own...I would think that we as the progresive blogger community could do something smilar...I think it would be a fitting tribute to the bloggers we lsot due to not haveing something like this in place?
