Great one LM, especially the graphic which is fit to be a poster

Gravatar Assuming Bush isn't imprisoned for his crimes (unfortunately, it doesn't look likely), the next President should VERY publicly and repeatedly nominate him to be our next Ambassador to Iraq. They can couch it in flowery language like "the President has always had a spot in his heart for the Iraqi people. He invaded their country and brought their leader to justice. Unfortunately, the demands of the US Presidency prevented him from giving Iraq his full attention. Now that his term is over, I'd like to give him the opportunity to go over and lead the reconciliation effort."

Or something along those lines. Someone else can come up with something better.

The point is, Bush should NEVER be allowed to live Iraq down and he should be held accountable for it constantly. I'm sure he'd refuse to become Ambassador because it's a subordinate position and, as we know, he thinks he's 'the Decider'. Plus he's failed so catastrophically, he won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

But I would pay money to watch him squirm. If they don't do it, he'll wash his hands of Iraq as soon as he leaves office. I frankly doubt he'll ever go back there and will instead simply blame his successors for somehow messing it up.

Gravatar Oh... and one other thing...

This State Dept. story is just another installment of "Republicans asking others to do something that they would never do themselves".

Gravatar Yes, but Condi had lots of time to appear and speak at the news conference where Karen Hughes announced her retirement. For these folks, everything is PR and image/message control.

Gravatar Not to mention the whole being guarded by Blackwater thing...

How much you wanna bet those muscle-bound meatheads might decide to be less-than-respectful to the FSOs in the future?

Gravatar why not send some of the wingnut brigade over there to serve as state department reps? they like the war so fuckin' much, let's let 'em put their own skin in the game.

Gravatar I found Harry Thomas' retort about 88% supporting slavery and therefore the minority opinion not always right to be WTFingly shocking.

Gravatar My Gods...

Those are the freaking lamest damn jumping jacks I've ever seen.

Can the even do ONE pull-up? Ten sit-ups? Or five ball-busters without their ass hitting the ground?

Drill Sergeant's Kittle and Patterson (MOH winner) would absolutely have had their fucking ass. I mean, they'd own it. Drill Sgt Kittle would have had their ass's sliced off and mounted on the wall next to the head (bathroom) for the rest of us to use as spittoons.

"BOYS! This is what fucking happens to assholes that don't fucking complete their motherfucking fucking goddamn fucking fuck fucking mother-fucking PT exercises in a manly manner when I and Drill Sergeant Patterson tell them to. DO YOU FUCKERS FUCK UNDER-FUCKING-STAND ME?

"YES DRILL SERGEANT!"

"GOOD.

"Now drop and give me fifty. All this glad-assing has made me fucking horny for the sight of your perfect fucking assholes bobbing up and down in perfect fucking military unison.

On my mother-fucking count...

ONE.."

"ONE DRILL SERGEANT."

"TWO..."

"TWO DRILL SERGEANT."

"THREE..."

"THREE DRILL SERGEANT."

Old-school. *grins*

Basic Combat Training
September-November
2nd Platoon, Charlie Battery
(and I don't remember the rest of it; would have to go look it up)
But we were part of the Basic Combat Training Brigade at:
Ft. Bliss, TX (that's El Passo)
And we were a Battery, not a Company, because Ft. Bliss trains the Hawk Missile Batteries. I think we were in the 2nd BCT Brigade.

Old times.

And DRILL SERGEANT ROBBERT PATTERSON won the Medal as an E4 in Vietnam. No shit. He was one of my two Drills. Stayed in and ended up a CSM. Of course he wouldn't know me from fucking shoe polish, probably. I was a 17 year old kid he had for the first three weeks of his very first class before he was even a full DI. Then they shipped him off to DI school and he was gone. Damn fine instructor. Only really chewed our ass when we fucked up on something that mattered. And then, he dumped us into the sandpit, and gave us PT till we fucking DROPPED. As in, 31 years later I still remember not to fuck with DI Patterson. Ever. Not on what matters.

Getting back on point...

These troops are going to die. If there own people don't kill them, they will die because they simply are not fit. I'm fucking disabled, and I can outperform all of them, even with my cane. I could kill them all, then pull out my medic kit and save to of them with the parts from the third, and hump him back to the field hospital, even on my bad knee, while returning cover fire to keep people off Hubris' back, who would take care of everything in front of us and on the sides.

These guys are fucking toast if they ever actually see action. Simply buttered side down toast. Burnt, scrapped, and thrown in the trash.

Gravatar LM, you are a poet.

Gravatar Actually, the recruits look half starved. It would explain some of the "runty-er" ones' utter lack of muscle coordination.

Prolonged hunger will do that to a body.

LOVE the State Department clip. Condi has no idea on how to lead, just like Shrub. They want to COMMAND not lead.

They're both putzes.

Gravatar Hey, LM, I never complain or pick nits about any of your masterpieces, but today I have a small question. The "15 frames p/s" refers to what? Just asking in case I am missing something about that technology. I kind of know the whole game about frames since I am a Duart Color ex employee. I believe that tape has no frames. But having been out of the game now for 31 years, maybe there's a whole new angle I am missing.
Please inform!

Gravatar As I was saying earlier, Condi couldn't be bothered to appear at this internal DOS meeting to answer questions from her own employees and to deliver the news that they were being forced to serve in the middle of a war zone.

Yet she had plenty of time to appear at a news conference that same day, when Karen Hughes was announcing her resignation from a position that she was not qualified for to begin with and where she performed incompetently for the past 1-2 years.

If you did not see the news clips, you missed the spectacle of Condi falling all over herself lavishing praise on Karen and all she did for furthering US/Mideast relations. I felt truly embarassed for Condi because she was practically sucking Karen's dick and it almost seemed like Karen was the Sec'y of State and Condi was the subordinate.

Anyway, a decision to mandatorily assign diplomats to Iraq should be conveyed personally, not by the news. After all, you're telling civilian employees that they MUST go to a place where the top UN envoy was killed and where, just this past week, a brigadier general was injured while on a convoy protected by hired contractors.

These civilian Dept of State employees have every reason to question the wisdom of sending them into a war zone when there is no defined mission and the probability of success is zero to none.

Gravatar It's 15 frames per second.

Standard television comes at you in 30 frames per second, so he means, this is playing back at half that number of frames per second, which is why it doesn't look as picture-smooth as television does.

Television also redraws each frame twice per second, so each of the 30 frames per second is drawn twice, in one of several ways, either interlaced (odd lines drawn first), or progressive (all lines typically drawn completely, twice per frame, leading to a massively smooth picture with very little black space between each frame.) Call this 1080p60

In contrast, movies play back at 24 frames per second, and have a noticeable shutter, that is, a black space between each frame. It is this contrast of light and dark, repeated at 24 frames per second which we call "cinematic." It contrasts vividly with "video" which does not have the white/dark contrast, as the screen is being constantly redrawn, either interlaced, or progressively, but either way, there is always light on the screen.

What LM was saying was that the video he was talking of, was first, VIDEO, not movie, and was showing at half the normal frames per second, 15. But at full speed, so it looks like normal video, normal movement and such, but with some jerkiness to it, not as smooth as it might.

Hope this helps.

For more, try Progressive Scan, 1080p and the Acuity of Human Vision, and VERY IMPORTANTLY 1080p Does Matter - Here's When (Screen Size vs. Viewing Distance vs. Resolution).

The bottom line of the stuff I just sent you is, 1080p is the way to go. Do NOT get 1080i. Make sure your new television does native input 1080p, ideally with at least two (2) HDMI adapters.

Furthermore, unless you're sitting no more than 5-6 feet away, you're simply not going to see the difference, because of the way people's eyes work -- unless you personally have 20/10 vision. 20/20 just won't cut it.

So you might consider instead of getting a 50-60 inch plasma television or LCD for $1500-$2500, getting a ceiling mounted projector which does (once adjusted) perfect 1080p at 100-120 inch screen... Put that up, and you can sit back at 12 feet, and you've got a genuine cinematic experience.

Gravatar Neither of the videos seem to be working for me.

Gravatar Hello.

Would you be willing to spread the word about www.draftresistance.org? It's a site dedicated to shattering the myths surrounding the selective slavery system and building mass civil disobedience to stop the draft before it starts!

Our banner on a website, printing and posting the anti-draft flyer or just telling friends would help.

Thanks!

Scott Kohlhaas

PS. When it comes to conscription, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Gravatar Got back here a few days later and read your fps explanation JW. Thanks. I was a strictly 24 fps guy and I still say that technically, tape does not have frames, it has scans. I do appreciate all the tech info you have offered and I will chase it down for the pure educational value. I needed to have that 15 fps thing explained and now it makes some sense, in fact, maybe he means slo-mo.
But I won't be buying any Massive TV as I haven't had one since 1975 and have no plans to get one.
I'm off to check your suggestions out.
