Looks like it is open season for sumbags to make false statements and accusation of their seniors to cover up their own misconduct.A long with JAGS looking for their 5 min. of fame. Now we have the same type of goings on with our brothers in the USMC.A sumbag in the USMC has made a LT. a killer in order to keep himshelf out of trouble.I can see more of this down the line. This is also being used to play to the left so the left cann't say that this is another cover up like Mi Lie. Just a CYA at the troops expence. |

It's so frustrating that these people always base their opinion on speculation. Their opinions are always negative, and usually dead wrong. |
|
What a PC pile of Sh*t! Senior Officers are so afraid they might lose their seats at the next USNA homecoming game (or in-zone flag promotion) that they fall over all over themselves proving how "fair" they are in investigating every allegation. |
|
Great coverage of all this, Matt. I'm relying on you to keep us up to speed on this. I feel very optimistic that the SEALs will prevail in the end but it's just infuriating they have to go through/put up with all this crap. |

What on earth is going on with the US Military prosecuting troops for killing in a war situation. This seems so out of control to me. Is this possibly a hangover from the Clinton Era of military promotions or has the military been invaded by the ACLU, kind of like the invasion of the body snatchers? |

Between this and the Pantano witch-hunt, I've about had it. I've gone the longest time I possibly can to give W the benefit of the doubt in terms of supporting the troops, and it may be that his mental and managerial capacity is stretched to the limit in trying to do so, but what we need in office is someone who will not just give lip-service but will DO it. I want heads to roll from the Pentagon on down over all these witch-hunts. You so much as second-guess any of the people risking their lives to protect our own, and you should be fired, plain and simple. Enough of the PC bullshit. I would expect this from Jimmy Carter, but not from a Republican administration. |

Do you think a Kerry administration would be better? |
|
E-gads on that. |

One of the accused is currently at my command. He has been selected for O-4, but is on hold indefinitely until the investigation is finished. His security clearance has been suspended for the same reasons, so he cannot help out with mission planning, or operate aboard certain platforms. I've heard this guy's story, along with others who were there, and read the accounts in the media. Our guy is an honorable man, who is anxious to get on with his career and continue to do the right thing. Fortunately, our guy has a lawyer with a fee cap, although it is currently maxxed out. I'd go anywhere into harm's way with this guy based on my observation of his morals, work ethic, motivation and leadership. Just my $.02..... |

Ciggy, I wonder if anyone in this country would be tougher than W. McCain? He shows no evidence of it. Kerry is unimaginable. Hillary is unimaginable times 1,000. Give me a name you'd prefer. W was electable and is getting a most difficult job done in a poisonous atmosphere full of America haters and enemy-appeasers. I understand your frustration but name someone better. You can't. |
|
Three cheers for "junk!" |
|
Froggy and Peg C., the lack of others who WOULD properly support the troops, doesn't necessarily mean W is doing a good job of that. I reserve the logical right to say "none of the above" when it truly IS none of the above. |

Yeah, I have a comment. All these fucking faggots need to stop being pussies. If those bitches cant stand up to a good measure of American "can-do", then let 'em rot in fucking hell. |

I noticed a post above that blamed Bush on the Seals and Pantano cases- i.e. why are they cases at all? The Administration cannot have anything to do with these cases at this point. (Other than to issue a Presidential pardon, which assumes guilt so that is premature.) Military justice issues are handled at as low a level in the chain of command as possible. When someone higher in the chain of command interferes in the decision making of a subordinate commander it is called “unlawful command influence” and cause a dismissal of all charges (admittedly a very rare remedy in practice). The problem that has caused these SEALS and Pantano to be charged with crimes is the liberal/P.C. influence in the military over the last couple of decades and the zero-tolerance mentality. None of these influences (liberalism, P.C., zero tolerance) is healthy for any military organization. I have taught law of war classes to troops and it is a very touchy subject. Our troops have to understand that they have a duty to fight war under certain standards, but their leaders should not second-guess good faith efforts to adhere to those standards. In other words, soldiers should do what needs to be done, with the rules of engagement as a guide, and err on the side of your unit’s safety. After all you don’t really want to die for your country; you want the other son-of-a-bitch to die for his country. (Patton) |

You miss the point. Bush does not see this story as we do. He hears what happens and he asks the Department of Defense, “What the fuck, over.” They feed him their line, which is based on the decades of slow indoctrination of liberalism; P.C.; and zero tolerance. The nature of being at the top in a federal republic is letting the system run its course. I don’t have enough info about the SEALS, but no panel (jury) will convict Pantano – the prosecutor will be embarrassed (been there.) It is B.S. that it got this far, but now things just have to run their course. The solution is to change the military culture. Get rid of the zero-defect policies. Ignore the liberal and P.C. influences that have infected the armed forces. Make the military understand that its only purpose is to follow the commander-in-chief’s orders regardless of their personal feelings and too hell with political correctness. General Mantis was right and fuck the liberal reporters who want to make an issue out of it. |

I think Peter hit the nail on the head. |
