I repeat what I said in a previous thread...it is one of the most evil of things to steal another person's self-respect and honor...and I am talking about ANYONE regardless of color.
To feed on human misery in such circumstances for political gain is a horrible injustice and inhuman abuse!
Thanks Froggy for naming it.

Matt, I sent you the story on Seefeldt. I see the Moberly Monitor took it down, and when I google "brother of Cairo native" I get the page of phonies. Man, I feel like a gullible fool, but it's not easy anymore (if it ever was) to discern truth. I should have known the guy was too good to be true! :-(
I think, if it's possible, the MSM's credibility has dropped by another magnitude over the miserable, hysterical hurricane reporting. And I can't agree more that much of what passed for reporting was their own bigotry and racism. There is nothing so overt or ugly anymore than the true racism on the Left. The MSM is permeated with it. I admit I avoided all TV news during the hurricanes because I just can't tolerate the hysteria and I refuse to believe the worst of everyone, as the 24/7 news insists on feeding to us. Enough of the grotesque distortions and falsehoods were repeated in the blogosphere to give pause, as well. I lost an awful lot of faith in supposedly trustworthy organs, this month.
We normally avoid "60 Minutes" but caught Hallums last night while trying to record "Cold Case." What an incredible person! Too bad we had to suffer with that nitwit Stahl to see what true American spirit and grit is all about.

Excellent Article as always.
I heard some news on the radio about attack dolphins being on the loose. I had trouble believeing that story but had a good laugh.
Peg C., I agree with you the news is full of hysteria but there motto must be "If it Bleeds it Leads"
The MSM puts out stories like Matt indicated that turns out to be false.
example: http://polipundit.com/index.php?p=10159
Like Peg C., I really don't believe the worst in people but I expect the worst from the MSM and the left instead.
They have no commonsense and I fear them more than I do the terrorists because they are a cancer to the well being of this wonderful country.
Has anyone heard the sucking sound of people rushing to leave this country. Didn't think so.

Attack dolphins. Yeah. They must've broken out of their Sooper Seekret hideout and are now lurking a la Jaws. (Can't you just hear the music? Daa...dumm...daa...dumm...dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-
dum...)
Sheesh. And the MSM wonders why it's not taken seriously anymore.

I caught that 60 minutes piece. I especially liked the way he answered that last fishing question, the one where they tried to get him to castigate anyone in the government. As I recall (and I'm probably getting it a little wrong) he said something like, "No, they didn't call, but I'm free. And that's good enough." (or something similar).

Excellent post, Froggy.
Peg has it absolutely correct, "There is nothing so overt or ugly anymore than the true racism on the Left."
The reporting of these two hurricanes has been horrible and frankly embarrassing. Any moments of credibility that the MSM may have shown were accidental, I'm sure. Like the hilarious fruitless attempts by the ABC Nightline reporter to get evacuees in San Antonio to say something negative about President Bush after his speech in Jackson Square.
I do have to give credit to a CNN reporter (Alicia Acuna, I believe) who was covering the Galveston area both before and after Rita hit. She stood in front of a building which had lost its front wall and said something like, "Leave it to us to make our report standing in front of the ONLY building that sustained any significant damage." Hope she keeps her job after such honesty.
Red River - Hope all is going well where you are.

Froggy,
I had a friend in San Diego who worked with the Dolphins used for security etc. He brought me and the wife out for a tour. Most of the time these animals live in pens in the water. They dont live all day long with equipment strapped to them. In fact, they spend most of their time training for basic things like beaching themselves on pad (simulating a boat) so they learn to trust their trainers.
While I wouldnt want to mess with these animals, they dont store them with dart guns.
I would imagine they would have shipped them out of the area with as much money as they put into training them.
Thanks for the report.

Froggy,
I disagree about the MSM being racists. As mentioned before, I think the motivation is more, "If it bleeds, it leads". In that respect, the MSM is very much equal opportunity offenders.
Now, for the lefties (which I admit much of the MSM are), there is this notion that the Government ought to be the nanny, or as you put it "zookeeper", over the minorities and poor.

Leland, sorry, but the MSM, elite liberals and the hardcore Left are BIGOTED AND RACIST. It is evident in everything, from their arrogant, better-than-thou musings in academia and media, to their patronizing and worse of Iraqis and others in the Middle East who are "incapable" of understanding or desiring democracy, to their grotesque portrayals of all minorities as pitiful and helpless without the grand largesse of their betters, to their rush to portray minorities in Louisiana as vicious, sub-human animals, to their constant anti-Semitism, to their willingness to gay-bait a Republican during an election. It may lead because it bleeds, but there are way too many instances of bleeding totally ignored by the MSM because the wrong people are bleeding. It is all about the correct groups' bleeding and Americans, particularly white Americans, most particularly male white Americans, being guilty of the violence or oppression. They expect no results, responsibilities or efforts on the part of special interest groups, while holding the rest of us to preposterous expectations of perfection and then excoriating us for failing to achieve it. It's the soft bigotry of low expectations and the hard bigotry of ridiculous expectations at one and the same time.
I am sick to death of it and I refuse to listen to it anymore (borrowing from "Network").

The very SAME jackass that illegally used government and emergency resources to "rescue" his personal property and whose blatant interference in ongoing rescue operations of desparate people (read human beings) tied up a helicopter running search and rescue and TWO heavy trucks for over an hour and a half!!! What is wrong with the justice in this so-called hearing? GOD these people make me sick!!! How people like this always seem to wind up sitting in judgement on others when they should crawl back under a rock and stay there. When is this POS going to jail?

Matt, I agree that the dolphins would not have been abandoned, not just because of the $ investment; if their handlers are anything like k-9 handlers they are devoted to their animals. It seems to me that many on the left are so sure we on the right are racist because they recognize the racism lurking bebeath the surface of their own world-view, and assume since we aren't as 'nice' as them, we must be evil racist pigs. I think the zoo analogy hits the nail square on the head.

Peg,
We can disagree. Though, really I'm just trying to paint with a narrower brush. I just think there is a handfull out there that our not racist. They are simply doing there job and trying to report objectively. We don't notice them because their work is benign, primarily because it is done properly. Certainly, I can agree that the MSM is full of lefties, and as I said before, they seem to trive on racism.
I too refuse to watch or read the MSM. Because I live in Houston, that was modified a bit for Hurricane Rita, but by the end, my desire to ignore them was reinforced.
Last night, I spent an hour at a service station for a tire problem. I got to watch ABC's evening national news coverage. Of course the story is Tom Delay and how he violated campaign finance law (I belive he probably did violate the law, but then I think the law should be unconstitutional, but lets put that aside). So here is the anchoress talking about how serious this story is, but to protect her as "unbias", she turns to an ABC commentator to get his view; George Stephanapolous. Yes, the former Clinton advisor is quick to talk about how bad this is for Republicans that a leader would scoff at the law.
What a freaking joke. Most critics of campaign finance law pointed out that with the law in place, MSM would have nearly full control of political content provided to the masses (blogs have leveled that pretty much). Here is the perfect example as a Democrat operative is shown as a member of the "unpartial" press, and certainly not challenged at all, discussing how wrong the other party is in violating a bad law. The same Democrat operative that supported Clinton within the White House, while that President committed purjury.
The rest of the news cast was simply negative. From the markets crashing, to fuel prices going through the roof (note that oil prices went down, so ABC talks about Natural Gas prices), to the poor suffering from Katrina, and the only "feel good" story was that a couple of evacuees managed to still get married even though they had not home.
If I watched that stuff daily, I think I would kill myself from the dispair. If it was my only source for news, I don't think there is a way I would ever believe that the US would survive.
Oh, and lets not let the racism issue go so soon. ABC held a special segment that was entitled "racism in America" which was specifically intended to show that racism still existed and was a cause for much of the trauma due to Katrina. This time, instead of interviewing evacuees live (like ABC did after Bush's speech on aid), ABC cut and pasted various interviews conducted across the country, and of course, all of the people interviewed said racism is still a problem in America. It was sick.

Perhaps the greatest example of the racism of the left and MSM is that they are incapable of separating Race from culture. They consider urban black culture 'blackness'. That would be like considering 'trailer park trash' whiteness. They can't separate out the negative impact of the urban 'hip-hop' no-father culture of the inner city black community from the non-issue of being black in America today. Even after something like Katrina, they spin around, dizzy, proclaiming they can show us what's wrong, even though they don't even know anymore which way is up...

Some liberal judge appointed by Bill Clinton ruled that he is going to order the release of more Abu Graib photos because the ACLU wants them spread all over the planet...the PENTAGON suddenly has nothing to say. I will give General Myers credit for his pleas to the judge but apparently that fell on deaf ears. I listened to the ravings of some lunatic "civil rights" attorney (GOD I HATE THEM) on the O'Reilly Factor tonight and O'Reilly was just as livid as I was! This guy was so interested in winning the arguement that he didn't seem to care what the consequences would be. He claimed that higher ups still needed to be held to account...one small problem with that statement...THERE IS NO EVIDENCE in the photos to suggest any higher ups were involved, in fact, there is reportedly NOTHING new at all just more of the same. Didn't make any difference to this guy...he told O'Reilly that when the district court upheld the ruling that he would come back and make O'Reilly eat his words.

There is an interesting piece that appeared in the LA Times on Sept 27th entitled Katrina Takes Its Toll on Truth, News Accuracy.
When reporting on Katrian, The media collectively did nothing more than simply recycle and amplify many unverified stories. Newspapers and tv EXAGERATED criminal behavior!
But if you ask me that incompetant self serving Mayor Nagin - a black mayor who did nothing constructive to help his fellow black americans constituents before and during and after Katrina, yet managed to serve as the mouthpiece that fueled the fire of unverified rumours and lies.
During his appearance (along with his Police of Chief another incompentant black man who also needs to be held accountable - retiring my ass- this many KNOWS HE FAILED his citizens!!)on Oprah THREE WEEKS AFTER Katrina they both continued to spew forth the LIES and EXAGERRATED rumours often reported in the media.
This sad excuse of a Mayor and a man has yet to apologize for HIS failures and his lies, innuendos, and overexaggerated claims to the media.
He is like Cindy Sheehan someone who seeks the limelight through any means including lies, rumours, innuendos, and then deflects the truth about HIMSELF onto anyone else..from the President, to Blanco, even to his own black american new orleaneans! He is dispicable!
"Journalists and officials who have reviewed the Katrina disaster blamed the inaccurate reporting in large measure on the breakdown of telephone service, which prevented dissemination of accurate reports to those most in need of the information. Race may have also played a factor".
Interesting to note how the media still continues to justify its own failures by blaming the breakdown of phone service ( as if ANYTHING else should have happened during a Cat 4 hurricane...did they NOT anticipate phone service would go down???)
And this throwaway line of "race MAY have also played a factor" is yet another example of the elitist denial that continues to permeate the media.
Times-Picayune Editor Jim Amoss cited telephone breakdowns as a primary cause of reporting errors, but said the fact that most evacuees were poor African Americans also played a part.
"If the dome and Convention Center had harbored large numbers of middle class white people," Amoss said, "it would not have been a fertile ground for this kind of rumor-mongering."
Yeah..IF...but they weren't .....and your paper is just as accountable.
Froggy has it right when he says these stories fit nicely into the worldview and mindset of elite liberals and he points out good it makes these hypocritical elitists feel that they can tame and care for these "poor blacks who are really nothing more than savages". Katrina pulled aside the mask - the thin vaneer of hypocrisy that these elitists have hidden behind for decades - and exposed the truth.
This truth is the story the media and liberal elitists as well as the majority of the dumocrats need to be discussing...but since it shames them...they won't. They will simply do what they always do-deny and deflect blame-as evidenced yet again in this piece on "media self examination" in the LA Times.
Deny...deflect....deny...deflect!
This is the mantra of the elitist liberals found in the Democrat political camp, which is sadly, where the majority of our media resides!
(and while Fox may not lean left - even their reporting "left" alot to be desired)

Like I said:
via a link on Drudge -
A Reid relationship with the Second Baptist Church surfaced in 1997, when the senator donated $250 to the church where Davis was and still is pastor.
The money came from John Huang, who was convicted of making illegal contributions to the 1996 re-election campaign of President Clinton.
At about the same time, Reid donated another $250 from Huang to the First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Las Vegas.
Reid said he made the contributions to the churches instead of returning the money to Huang because he did not think Huang deserved it.
Hafen said Reid has not made contributions to Davis or his church since 1997.
Reid has attended services at the Second Baptist Church "about three or four times" since 1997, Hafen said.

Carol,
I heard about it. Right now, not enough there for me. John Huang, I don't like. However, all we know now is:
Dirty Harry received $250 from a Clinton Chinese fundraiser.
Dirty Harry didn't like the connection so he gave the money to a church.
The Church wanted to start some sort of community service group, so Dirty Harry helped to earmark some pork for the Church.
Some years later, the reverend of the Church is found using the government grant for personal pleasure.
I'll be upset when I discover that the good reverend returned some of that money back to Dirty Harry in the form of campaign contributions. Until then, I'm only suspicious.

If I understand correctly (and I'm not sure I'm right, and don't know how to check for it) from one report I heard, it won't make any difference even if Reid were charged with an equivalent crime. Reason being that supposedly DeLay had to step down because _Republican_ house rules require it, but Democratic house rules do not. So...DeLay is being hit over the head because of Republican rules that hold him/them to a higher standard than Democratic rules. How's that for encouragement to make the ethical bar as low as possible!
Oh yeah...and that says _nothing_ about "innocent until proven guilty".... Guess the Dems forgot about that one - this time.
