"But is it truly living? To endure so much for the sake of superficial order is slow suicide. Doth we protest much?"
Yes it is truly living. In your wet dreams you probably see visions of Filipinos taking to the streets en masse in spontaneous rage to kill all traditional politicians and start a new society where majority of the people follow the law to the letter like you saw in Australia.
And then you wake up and see the resentful reality of Filipinos bribing cops, make singit in pila, beat commoners with golf clubs and all those little things that make your blood boil.
You look for answers, you fire up the computer and post in your blog your stream-of-consciousness ramblings, hoping to get answers from your fellow Filipinos to your vexing questions.
And all you get is one reply post from the most non-nationalistic, individualistic, post-modernistic, west-obsessed Filipino in the world who doesn't give a shit about the Filipino nation and government.

My friend from Australia,
I do not know whether I would have returned had I not been required to either, as I express here.. We are all human and given a choice between comfort and suffering, of course we would choose the former.
This post is not meant to mock or belittle, as I express abundantly here.

Fuck you. Just because you returned doesn't give you the right to mock and belittle those who stayed abroad. Just because you made your choice and it makes you unhappy doesn't excuse your disdain for those who went away and are happy and fulfilled in their new lives and homes.
"We return out of duty, guilt or gloating."
Uh, sorry, but those three words do not quite encompass the range of reasons and emotions why and when we return. Some of us return, temporarily or permanently, to revel in the beautiful cultures, traditions, and peoples of our country. Still some of us return because we can't stay abroad.
Rarely do we return because of "duty, guilt or gloating".
