Because Normal is the name of the town. Oblong is another town in Illinois, so you can actually have headlines that read "Normal Woman Marries Oblong Man."

I'm thinking it's meant to be playful and slightly ironic, as though you were in the film "Raising Arizona" - or getting married by an Elvis lookalike at a drive-through Vegas Chapel.

Or, you know, they could just (gulp) like Taco Bell. Maybe their first date was there or something like that.
