I like that plan! I've read neither book, but I believe I've heard interviews with both the authors, and they have philosophies I can get behind.

May I also recommend Marion Nestle's "What to Eat?" It's very useful as a resource; she visits each aisle of the supermarket and discusses the best choices, the worst choices, and the hidden nutritional consequences. Good for questions like: which whole wheat bread is the best choice? Do the 'organic' and 'natural' labels mean anything? How much stuff can you add to yogurt before it stops being good for you?

Good for you! This is something Doc and I seriously need to consider.
Just one question: is chocolate allowed?
