This is a good article. I am crrently starting the sacraments class at UD and I was looking up information like this. I had started at Southern Evangelical Seminary but never finished. Now I am starting over. It was Norman Geisler who instilled in me my love for Thomas (for Thomas loved God). Glad to know you attend there. I'm linking you if you dont mind.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that Trent left open the question of annihilation of substance, which was held by some Franciscan theologians at the time.

True, it's an available option. But the Church doesn't teach it.
I'll just go on record and say sacramental annihilationism is a bad option.
