I think your viewpoint and that of NannyT gives a little too much credit to the 2 girls.
Those girls just happened to "fall into" it and happened to be "the thing of the moment". It's only testimony to our rather vapid and superficial society that we look to this sort of thing to provide easy entertainment instead of finding real issues to work out our brains (myself included, at least 60% of the time).
wrt Gwen and the Harajuku girls - Gwen always did dress in a very extreme way, so I think she just found a product she loved and went all out promoting it. That style of dressing also suits her music, so it was a coincidentally good fit. Manufactured marketing does not always hit the spot, Gwen clearly is into the HGs all on her own.
Anyway, I would not put SPG and Xx into the same basket.
IB, you should always look beneath the layers. You speak truth, but there are other truths spoken as well. You all need to re-read the post and the sources and your comments. Think. Then decide.
